Warm Bodies (2013)
Not Terrible, but Forgettable Wasted Potential
Warm Bodies was a movie that I really wanted to like and one that I thought I'd really like. A zombie love story is a concept that is pretty promising. You would think it would be comedic, clever, cute, and creative. However, I found it to be none of these things. I found Warm Bodies to be boring, predictable, and uninspired.
I feel like the movie is trying to advertise itself as "Not your typical romance story." But that's exactly what it feels like. I personally don't feel any connection between the two characters. Neither of them are particularly likeable, which is a problem when the whole story revolves around those two characters. What's even more frustrating is that I think R could have been a really lovable character. R, like the other zombies, can only speak in broken English, but the audience can hear his internal dialogue. This specific reason is why R is unlikeable. There's something so endearing about monstrous characters with a soft side, and all of that is thrown away when they make him such a main character for a teen romantic comedy. As for the love interest, Julie, she's even worse. There is no level of relatability to attach to her. That's not saying that every character should be relatable or even likeable, but like I said: The movie revolves around these two.
Warm Bodies is extremely predictable and cliche. And I hate the word "cliche" but it's really the only word to use here. Every plot point, every scene, every bit of dialogue can be seen ahead from the very start. This may seem like an inconvenient factor that wouldn't affect the movie, but it does. Just because there's zombies, that doesn't make it at all creative. In fact, it feels like one of the least creative movies I've seen in a long time.
In conclusion, Warm Bodies is... not good. I'm not going to say that this is one of the worst films ever because it's not by any means. There are many films that are technically worse. What Warm Bodies is, is forgettable wasted material.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Pretty Good
BlacKkKlansman is what I would consider an overall pretty okay movie. Some parts I really don't like, but there are some parts that I really do love. I find the premise to be very interesting and full of potential. I find the visuals, soundtrack, and editing to be very striking, and these factors are probably my favorite thing about the film. This movie somehow manages to have a serious theme, but has such a fun atmosphere. You can really feel that this is a passion project. My problems come down to the amount of scenes that bring the movie to a halt or are just poorly written. I also have a problem with the last 2 minutes. I'm all for putting current politics into your film, but in execution it didn't do as well. Compared to the vibe of the actual film, the ending feels very violent and almost propaganda. I think it spreads a good message that should be spread, but I think it should have had better editing. Overall, I think it's a pretty good movie, and I could recommend BlacKkKlansman to a number of people.
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Brilliant
I only just watched this movie, but I can already tell you that I will be rewatching this over and over for years. I'm usually not a fan of visual gags, but this movie is full of brilliant and artistic imagery that create a comedic atmosphere for the whole movie. It's brilliant the way Hot Fuzz uses camera work, editing, and in some cases, acting to make visual gags that are as funny as they are striking. To me, this is a near perfect movie that will maybe in the future, become one of my favorite movies. It may not be for everyone, but I can recommend Hot Fuzz to a variety of people I know.
Dunkirk (2017)
Pretty good
I think of Dunkirk as a pretty good movie. I found it to be a bit boring at times, but that felt almost necessary for the film to be itself. I think the main thing Dunkirk lacks is an extra something to really make me wowed. I don't consider it amazing, but it's definitely a good film that I would recommend to many.
The Social Network (2010)
Pretty good but not perfect
I did enjoy this movie, but it definitely had some qualities (one in particular) that struck me the wrong way. I enjoy the editing, the pacing, and the dialogue very much, but the main flaw has to do with message and theme. In some scenes, Mark Zuckerberg is painted as a good guy that is just sometimes a jerk. Personally, something about this felt wrong. Even with the final scene that states that he isn't a bad person, I couldn't help but think that was contradictory to everything the movie had set up. I don't think it's a bad movie, but I think that without a weird theme problem, I'd like The Social Network a lot more.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
A Little Too Pretty
I'm someone who absolutely loves dumb artsy fun in a movie. I love being able to look at a movie and have several times where I audibly say "Wow." The problem with The Grand Budapest Hotel is that every frame is one of those frames. The first five minutes are the best. Then, you just become desensitized to it looking good. It honestly kinda hurts to watch. Maybe another person would be fine with it, but I found the movie to be kinda boring and it eliminates what it aimed to be.
Isle of Dogs (2018)
Artsy fun but lacks character and plot
I find Isle of Dogs to be one of the most visually and aesthetically striking movies to exist. There were so many sequences that made me audibly say "wow". It's definitely supposed to be a movie that looked cool, and while it does do that, it doesn't deliver on the writing. The biggest downfall of the writing is the characters. The characters are one dimensional and boring. The movie expects us to feel something for them, but honestly I don't. Overall, Isle of Dogs creates inspiration and not emotion.
Zoom (2006)
All that is Evil in the World
I watched this movie 3 years ago when I had literally no standards for a movie, and yet it still pained me. It's genuinely one of the most painful movies to watch. None of the jokes were funny and none of the plot was interesting.
Legend of Hallowaiian (2018)
Pretty Horrible
I wanted to watch this movie because it looked horrible. I guess I was right.
Ma vie de Courgette (2016)
Pretty Great Movie
As an animation nerd, I was already won over by the ugly and creepy, yet charming stop motion. The style may be disturbing and disgusting to some, but I think it will grow on most. Basically, this story revolves around an orphan boy named Courgette and the relationship he develops. Despite what you may think, this movie is not for children. I'm not saying that it's too mature or adult, but I'm saying that this movie will most likely be appreciated only by adults or oddly pretentious children. This movie makes a difference in the film industry by enforcing the idea that animation is not limited by children's media, yet it is not trying to be overly adult. In my mind, it's a great movie, and it may be to you too.
Here Comes the Grump (2018)
Basic
A Wizard's Tale
I decided to watch this movie specifically because it looked bad. And while it did look bad, I was more disappointed with the actual writing. Nothing about it stands out. Even if Pixar made this with a good budget, I still really wouldn't like it. Everything about this movie is forgettable except for the fact that the animation looks bad. I watched it 20 minutes ago, and I can't remember any scene. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
At Eternity's Gate (2018)
Good, but Not for Everyone
I personally loved this movie. I loved the cinematography and I loved having a good cry. Yes, it's flawed and it's not for everyone, but I think that it's a pretty good movie. My main critique is just that their could have been more.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Dumb Fun
Detective Pikachu
I watched this movie as a big Pokémon fan, and I can't say that I didn't enjoy some of it. Don't get me wrong, it's a bad movie, but I really appreciate the extra facts and lore referenced throughout, as well as seeing beloved characters in a kind of horrific but amazing 3D rendering. But besides that, the movie has no real redeeming qualities. So if you aren't a fan, I wouldn't recommend it. I personally feel that the idea of a Pokémon movie had many more concepts to explore that they just didn't. Overall, if you're a Pokémon fan and you just wanna watch some mindless entertainment, then give it a watch.
Glass (2019)
A Complete Mess of a Movie
Where do I start? I'll start off by saying that I absolutely loved both Unbreakable and Split, and when I heard about a movie that ties those two together, I wasn't maybe excited, but definitely curious. I can't really recall much about this movie, and I just watched it three hours ago. And that's my main complaint. It's incredibly boring. I was playing on my DS while watching this and it was still agonizingly boring. It just felt so long. Now, I should probably get to my second complaint, everything else. I had neutral feelings about Glass until they made a salt bae joke. It was then that I realized what I had gotten myself into. This movie couldn't decide what it wanted to be. If it brands itself as a superhero movie, it's like the worst superhero movie ever. If it brands itself as a psychological thriller, it's like the worst psychological thriller ever. When the screen went to the credits, I actually audibly yelled because yikes, was that a mess. If you like unbreakable, if you like Split, don't watch this. Actually, if you're just a regular human being, don't watch this.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Pretty horrible
Alright, buckle in for this messy ramble of a review. At 1:00 AM, I tried to explain the entire movie to my sister, and in doing this, I realized that the world needs to know this information. I'll just get this out, right away. I hated the movie. I feel like the only reason I stayed was because I came there with a friend. Now, this is coming from someone who loves to watch bad movies for a good laugh. The Bee Movie may be awful, but at least you have fun watching it. MIB International was not even that. It somehow managed to be boring and cringy. Overall, it was just intolerable. Okay, I should probably get into specifics.
1.Dialogue and Acting
I can't say for sure if all these actors are bad actors. Actually, I know that the main roles are pretty good actors, so it really comes down to the actual dialogue. None of the dialogue sounds natural in any way. I can think of several lines of dialogue that makes me want to claw out my eyes and plug my ears with them. But for time sake, I won't point them out.
2.Characters
Now I know that Mary Sue is a dead term, but honestly it's probably the only term to describe Agent M. She's supposed to be a super cool chick, who's also edgy, but also clumsy, but also quirky. She just doesn't really have much to her. Moving onto Agent H, whom I hate even more. The character trope that they try to achieve is "Lovable jerk" which isn't an inherently bad trope. A lot of writers can pull it off and create some of my favorite characters. However, they wrote him horribly. And finally, Pawny. Whom of course, I hate the most. It's like they tried to create their own minion, and Minions still did it better. He's supposed to be the comic relief pet creature thing. It's done horribly. Everything he did, made me want to leave the theater. They all were supposed to be funny, yet none of them were. And I'm saying that as a person who occasionally laughs at fart jokes. I don't have a sophisticated sense of humor. It just wasn't funny. It was more cringy than anything.
3.Conclusion
Overall, great movie. 10/10
