Always happy to be here...
15 June 2019
Not necessarily a documentary that we need, but it is one that Michael Alig needed. The life, times and legacy of the Club Kids will forever be a fascination of those who participated, as well as those that didn't. It is... Alluring. It is... Exciting. And it is... Horrifying.

'Party Monster: The Shockumentary' is the better doc, but it's unfinished. And whatever it left on the table 'Glory Daze' picks up. Unfortunately, GD spends a little too much time revisiting the old days and not enough time with the follow up... Creating a final product that is far too long and extremely unpolished... But still, very much a must see.

Meaning in the Meaningless
24 December 2018
'Under the Silver Lake' is a fascinating production reflecting a new generation's desperation to find meaning in the meaningless. David Robert Mitchell will no doubt one day make it on a comprehensive list of the greatest directors of all time... And this particular film will no doubt be remembered fondly for its bizarre take on the neo noir genre & its outstanding cinematography. However, it's uneven, messy script won't let 'Under the Silver Lake' make the impact the film truly deserves to make.

Consistent & even, 'Amigo Undead' delivers Horror-Comedy
21 May 2018
A fun Horror/Conedy starring Randall Park... I feel like the world needed this one. No, it's not exactly on par with something like 'Tucker and Dale vs Evil' (or anything along the same vein), but it definitely carves out a place for itself in the widely unappreciated genre. 'Amigo Undead' delivers its over-the-top violent, existential comedy in an even deadpan manner.

It's refreshing to see a Horror-Comedy keeps its comedy and tone consistent (with plenty of violence as well), so the ride throughout the film is smooth and enjoyable from beginning to end. Right now you can catch it on Showtime (Streaming and the Premium Cable Network) as well as the Amazon Prime Video catalogue. Those of you that live for 'Midnight Movies' that have access to these streaming and viewing outlets will definitely thank me for giving you this little push towards this worthy entry into one of our favorite genres.

Overlooked, but Hopefully not for Long...
13 April 2018
Seeing the 'Duplass Brothers Productions' flash on the screen before the film stirs up more excitement for me than when I see A24. Film... TV... They have their hands in the weirdest, most obscure productions that leave a massive imprint on the world of Celluloid. Love em or Hate em, they always make me feel something and they always come correct with the originality. Great work here!

Linas Phillips directs, produces, writes... Turning one of those 'uncomfortable truths' in life, that we admittedly love so much, into something organic and introspective. This film somehow escaped my radar, as I was extremely surprised to see the 2016 Release Date on a film that popped up on ISIA in 2018. This definitely feels like a must see!!! Hopefully 'Rainbow Time' finds it's rightful audience sooner than later!

The Flash: Rupture (2016)
Season 2, Episode 20
4/10
It's a (CW) trap!
3 May 2016
Storyline-wise this is a totally acceptable episode of The Flash... Moving forward, the show is in a very exciting spot for fans. Jesse Quick & Kid Flash both have received their powers and Wells is in quite a precarious position as it looks as if Barry is gone and Wells is responsible.

As exciting of a chapter as The Flash is currently turning to, it's not without its problems... And I'm compelled to say something as there are times when this show makes me want to bang my head on a brick wall. For one, The Flash (for the most part) has a great cast but Iris is like a huge anchor weighing them all down. Her movements are almost robotic, she looks uncomfortable during scenes where she has to channel extreme emotion, and watching her struggle to find the right emotional note she'll take it to another level by making awkward movements... It's like she doesn't know what to do with her body. Which begs the question... Where is the director to give her some direction?!

I also wish they'd turn down the quintessential 'whiny superhero' bit that Barry has been going through as of late... It was a huge turnoff when it was such a big focus of the Toby Maguire Spider-Man films. If you have to attack it, do so and move on, it's become a tired cliché in the genre and one I really hope to see less and less of as the genre continues to explode.

Please excuse my rants... I feel like The Flash could be great and at times it is, but it gets in its own way. There is a tried and true formula you see again and again over at The CW and sometimes they let that get in the way of the betterment of the show.

Sleepers Part 2
12 April 2016
A cast of good looking men won't save this clunker... It starts off interesting but then starts losing itself extremely quickly in back and forth flashbacks (why is everyone using this plot device these days?) and muddled storytelling. The prison scenes are far from realistic... Not that these horrors don't happen but they are so over the top it's hard to be truly invested.

These are talented actors, no doubt, but you could throw Meryl Streep & Colin Firth in there and there's only so much they could do with writing like this... Not a lot of chemistry among these actors & actresses either, which says more about the casting department than the actors themselves. It's the actors fanboys and fangirls that will surely blow smoke up this show's butt (see Quantico). This has been done before, many times, and better... That's the main problem... Game Of Silence is basically Sleepers Part 2... And with dozens and dozens of top notch shows currently airing, that's not something I am will to spend my time on.

The Evolution of The 100
8 April 2016
I wrote this for TVShow Time... I always review each episode but seeing so many upset with the themes and how low a fantastic episode of The 100 really lit my fire so... Im sharing it with all of you:

A lot of people seem to whining and crying about the themes that The 100 is undertaking this season... I've written that S3 has been up and down but I will never EVER complain about the themes in The 100. I enjoy this show because it's so out of the box as to what is the norm for The CW... This is entertainment, people... fiction... And I refuse to let other people try to force creative minds into PG-ing everything up. Back in the day the fear was that people would burn our books, now in the golden age of television... It's our TV series. Not this one, whistle-blowers... Not my 100. Those that feel the same way as I do... Please head over to the episode pages for The 100 at IMDb and rate this episode honestly... Don't let these censor-cheerleaders rewrite TV history.

Now on to the episode... Now that we have such a rich & explored land w/characters all over, The 100 is at its best when it tells one story at a time... And then melts those stories together. That's what's happened in this episode. Right at the heels of two major character deaths... Raven gets a go at proving her acting chops and does so with ease. Seeing her 'withdrawal' from the drug Allie is dispensing in such a literal and convincing manner will touch home with people who have dealt with real drug addiction.

These characters deaths have been a difficult event to process but they've altered the narrative in such a profound and exciting way that what once felt confusing now feels like it all had a purpose. The 100 feels white hot right now... It's exciting... It makes you stand up and get closer to your television and that's when you know your rly watching a great TV show... That and the fact that The 100 itself has become such a polarizing entity in pop culture. The show is EVOLVING, and we can't be mad at that especially when it's making so much noise in the process.

Scream Queens: Thanksgiving (2015)
Season 1, Episode 10

Munch On This
23 February 2016
Even tho there is some homage being paid to B-Horror past, that doesn't make up for this mess of a show. Maybe if I wasn't such a huge fan of Horror-Comedy or so enthusiastic after the first two episodes I wouldn't be so angry at this show, but I am. It's literally 5:30am & this episode aired around Thanksgiving so that means it's taken me an extra 3 months to get to this point. My gripes remain the same, not enough Horror, way too much Leslie Neilson 2015 if Leslie Neilson was a teenage girl obsessed with overplayed pop albums & sang loudly with her friends every time a Taylor Swift song played on a jukebox at a diner and then they all ask for split checks and no one tips their waiter. See, I can do slapstick too, now slide in an inappropriate sex joke and a severed head, slap Ryan Murphy's name on it and BOOM, you're renewed for S2.

Same day ratings were abysmal for this episode and tanked as the season went on... Yet an alarming amount of people saved it on their DVR. Whatever. My coworker has literally bribed me with $20 to finish just so she can laugh at my saucy reviews... Hi, Amanda! BTW, she says she didn't like the show yet she talks about the show way too much & paying me money to watch it is a dead giveaway she actually does really like this show. So who's watching this damn show and giving it these high ratings on here & IMDb? Not John Waters, and certainly not anyone old or aware enough to know who he actually is... And if that's true, then my Leslie Nielsen joke fell flat too and I'm only in this for the money.

Damn you, Jamie Lee Curtis, Damn you.

Wax (2014)

Wax OFF
14 February 2015
Like so many Full Moon films before it, Wax starts out using the tired premise of the filming of a reality show. Journalist Mike is challenged by the producers to spend the night in a haunted wax museum in Barcelona. Mike carries a video camera around with him while being filmed by various cameras set up around the museum... All while being shown footage of serial killer and cannibal Dr Knox performing ghastly rituals to his victims.

Director Víctor Matellano gets a few things right. For one, the atmosphere is extremely chilling and the gore scenes are certainly something to be proud of. Unfortunately, Wax quickly becomes one of those films where it is difficult to suspend your disbelief... As your average horror viewer will certainly start to question how and why and WTF?! as the story progresses. Maybe instead of writing roles specifically for cameos, more thought could go into tying everything together.

T3: A Neon Turkey
14 January 2015
If you go into Thankskilling 3 expecting anything like what you got out of the first film you will be incredibly disappointed, maybe even confused. Of course Turkie, the antagonist from the first film, returns to spread as much horror, gore & death as would be expected, but this time the world in which his terror transpires is a much more foreign place. To T3's credit, the world it paints is extremely original... Filled with colorful sets, clever lighting, pulse pounding beats and creative characters and puppets that even Jim Henson would most likely give nod to. Unfortunately those aforementioned pluses are the only things T3 has going for it this time around.

The plot is simple. The blood thirsty, mayhem starved Turkie receives news that the original sequel to his first film, Thankskilling 2, is being pulled and ultimately destroyed. Determined to not let his life's work disappear forever, Turkie grabs his son and sets out to find the last remaining copy. Immediately the film jumps off the rails, introducing character after character, each carefully imagined and constructed but none that add any real substance to the story. Random and potty humor is thrown against the wall like rapid fire and very little of sticks at all. It very quickly becomes extremely exhausting to be the viewer, very similar to keeping up with a toddler. This makes what bright points the film does have almost impossible to truly enjoy.

Director Jordan Downey obviously has some talent... What he needs is an editor. T3 is ultimately a mess. The audience this film will find will certainly be significantly smaller than it's predecessor. I'm also willing to bet that the age of that audience will drop as well

Offspring (2009)

Fun Romp in Low Budget Smut Land
23 November 2009
To say this film is brilliant would probably send shivers through pretentious movie reviewers across the internet. No, its obvious from the very beginning of this film, 'Offspring' is not for everybody. So who is for, you ask... Well the answer is simple - Hardcore Horror fans, B-Movie lovers, & fans of old Exploitation and Smut films from decades past will LOVE 'Offspring'! To those of us who fall into those fore-mentioned categories, yes this one is a brilliant & fun romp in low budget smut land! As most of us smut-lovers know, acting is not a necessary quality when it comes to this type of film and well it shows. However, there is a particular 'offspring' that really conveys the correct dosage of fear through the screen; Pollyanna McIntosh who plays 'The Woman' gives us a genuinely creepy portrayal of the leader of these fictitious flesh eating feral humans.

Gore factor is very much in effect and proves to be the centerpiece of 'Offspring'. That's right... plenty of blood, entrails, cannibalism, and gore filled moments to wince to. And don't forget the dead babies in plastic bags, makeshift soda can grills used for chomping skin, 'It's Alive' type baby drinking milk from a grossed out prisoner, and the ultimate 8 year old face off to the death...

For all you B-Movie Conniseurs, 'Offspring' is the s**t! You'll laugh, you'll jump, and you will definitely wince!

The Canyon (2009)
3/10
Dry & Desolate Canyon
19 November 2009
The general plot line of stranded individuals in any particular setting is nothing new to Hollywood, as we have seen many marooned protagonists go up against mother nature, blood thirsty villains, and both fictitious and very real beasts alike. However, of all the places we have seen films set in, the grand canyon is mostly new. With a fresh setting we should have endless possibilities and plenty of room for an exciting and unconventional script. Unfortunately, 'The Canyon' cannot capitalize on it's sources. The final product that director Richard Harrah presents us with is nothing short of boring film-making, extremely grating 'come on' moments, erroneous use of wolves, and a very empty script. The actors are very talented and do what they can with the material, but not even talented actors can save a script that is as empty, dry, and desolate as the grand canyon itself. There are a few shining moments, but not enough to carry this movie into the entertaining zone. There is a nice gore scene (that will surely make anyone who watches it wince), the scenery is put to very beautifully shot aesthetic use, and of course nicely acted moments that accurately evoke the hopelessness of the situation and sometimes are even ironically witty. Notice that I have yet to mention the word 'thrilling' or 'thriller', which is extremely sad because this movies is obviously supposed to be just that - a thriller. 'The Canyon' simply can't cut it as a thriller and is obviously too straight forward to be anything else. Avoid this one just as you would avoid going into the grand canyon with a guide who could possibly double as the homeless guy who shines shoes outside of your office.

Humpday (2009)

Gutless film-making ruins a 'could have been'
18 November 2009
If I told you this film started out strong then I would be lying to you. As a matter of fact the beginning of this film was probably the hardest to watch. I found it difficult to settle in with the characters, especially Ben & Anna. Their relationship seemed awkward at first and very much hard to identify with. However as the film progressed I did feel more comfortable with the character's direction as they begin to loosen up and loose focus on Ben & Anna's relationship.

Anna & Ben's late night slumber is rudely awoken by Andrew, Mark's college buddy and a decent plot line of a drunken promise between the two to make an amateur porn surprisingly unfolds. Unfortunately, the film is a complete letdown... no bang for your buck if you know what I mean. What seemed to be a film blooming from nothing does just what it should have never done... you guessed it, 'Humpday' just bloomed into nothing basically folding into itself by hanging on to clichiec ideology that we as a society left in the dust several decades ago raping our two main characters of any depth or growth that began to shine as the film ran it's course.

No this is not daring film-making, this is shabby & gutless; even setting back the male gender a few years. Shame on Lynn Shelton.

Tenderness (2009)

A much improved Polson answers his critics with 'Tenderness'
19 September 2009
'Tenderness' was first recommended to me by a close friend who I normally trust as far as judgment in film. However, when I learned the director, John Polson, was responsible for such films as 'Swimfan' and 'Hide & Seek', I had my doubts... As the movie progressed I found myself reassured by some emotionally provoking cinematography, strong performances, and an intriguing story. This film obviously is not comparable to Polson's previous flawed films. No, 'Tenderness' is actually substantial proof that Polson does have some talent in his bones after all.

After several years of juvenile incarceration for the horrific murders of his parents, Eric Poole (Jon Foster) is released back into the world amidst much controversy. While dealing with his wife's terminal condition, Retired Detective Cristofuoro (Russell Crowe) keeps close watch on Eric after his release waiting for him to slip up. Shortly after returning to his Aunt's home, Eric sets off to Albany to look at colleges. Suspecting that there is more to the trip that Eric is letting on, Eric's Aunt Teresa (Laura Dern) notifies the Detective of the trip. Fueled by an obsession by a seemingly chance encounter with Eric before the murders, a young and immature teen, Lori (Sophie Traub), forces a second encounter and finds herself accompanying Eric on his journey all while both searching for their own version of tenderness.

While it's no secret that this is not a perfect film, there is something to be said about this adaptation of Robert Cormier's novel. Instead of drawing from high suspense of the occurring events and without spelling everything out for the audience like most American films, Australian director Polson focuses on studying the film's characters. Though the characterization is a worthy effort, I still felt that the full potential of each character's depth was not explored. As long as you can get past Polson's earlier work and view the film with an open mind, you should be able to enjoy 'Tenderness' for as much as I did.

Rolling (2007)

...Rolling Face...
30 June 2009
As you can probably deduct from the film's title, 'Rolling' is much ado about Ecstasy. The advertising for the film caught my eye at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2008 by handing out flyer's for the film with a small button bag with a piece of candy inside that closely resembled a hit of E. After taking it's sweet time to actually make it to DVD, I finally received my copy in the mail from Amazon and knew immediately I had to share a review with all of you.

The film is a mock or faux-documentary and although this is an overused tactic in cinema, 'Rolling' seems to execute it's premise nicely. Several people, each from their own unique walk, prepare themselves for a night of drug induced euphoria at a warehouse party. As we follow each character with interviews, the story develops on cue with the theme of each ongoing interview. Nice character development is the result and I'm sure that those that have ever existed within the world of Ecstasy will feel like they know or know someone like each and every character.

The film is obviously Pro-Ecstasy, with a general but strong warning message... Almost like a public service announcement created by E-Tards. Accompanied by the music sty-lings of Simply Jeff, a popular breaks DJ from Los Angeles, 'Rolling's' soundtrack is mostly full of beautiful beats... however, they're were a few moments when the music got a bit 'trancey' or 'hypnotic' and actually sucked me right into the film. At one point I even got nervous and felt like I was doing something wrong... Really, I mean it got intense.

As beautiful of a picture that I have created for this movie so far I have to say that it is not all candy and fuzzy bunnies. As a matter of fact, the movie begins to drag once we hit the after party and the script is sometimes weak and overacted. Still, there is no doubt in my mind that some of you, especially those who are or have been ravers, will enjoy this movie. In comparison to 'Groove', I dig 'Rolling' much, much more... So yeah, it's worth checking out... but don't expect a masterpiece... After all, they are all rolling for Christ's sake!

Here is why we deem it at a slightly above average 6.5/10: +2 for accurate depiction of the world of Ecstasy +2 for the most genuine performance from all actors of the 'Rolling Face' +1 for the clever structure +1 for not overshadowing it's message +.5 for featuring breaks legend Simply Jeff

Martyrs (2008)

Brutal Masterpiece
12 June 2009
If you aren't aware of the brutal high art horror films that have been pumped out left and right from the genius minds of the French then you must have been living in a cave for the past two decades, especially this last one... 'Martyrs' is yet another vicious, dementedly violent masterpiece that the French can call their own, and possibly the most brutal one yet! The highly original premise starts with 2 women, one of which who has never quite recovered from being chained and tortured in a dark room for most of her childhood, who set out for revenge to the people who were responsible. Don't fret, this is not your average torture porn type movie... unlike the American films who touch similar subjects, 'Martyrs' enlightens us with a what, how, and why as the plot moves forward. After brutally murdering an entire family in their home, the girls find that the family is not the only ones responsible for the unspeakable acts forced upon Lucie as a child. Again, just to clarify... 'Martyrs' goes far beyond the violence of a typical horror film and transcends the very idea of the horror genre. Fans of horror and high art cannot go to the grave without seeing this film... those who have a weak stomach or who do not like high art cinema need to stay very far away form the film. Those in the middle need to proceed with caution, 'Martyrs' will change the way you look at life and death.

Kaufman does it again, this time in the director's seat...
29 May 2009
Many label Charlie Kaufman's work as pretentious because it's smart, different, and doesn't follow the average formula that most are accustomed to. Kaufman has written and produced such films as Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, & Being John Malcovich... However his newest project, 'Synecdoche' is his directorial debut. Kaufman proves yet again that he is far from pretentious... he is a genius.

In 'Synecdoche', Phillip Seymour Hoffman, one of my personal favorites, plays Caden, a theater director who takes on the challenge of creating his final work of art in a giant warehouse in Manhatten. As he works out the out's and in's his new masterpiece, Caden slowly builds a replica of the city as he knows it inside the warehouse and the play becomes almost a mockery of the lives of his crew and himself and he even casts someone to play himself and they people who are working on set. Meanwhile, Caden deals with on-going, almost self indulgent suffering of the pain from his wife and daughter, Adele & Olive, leaving him to live in Germany. This synopsis merely grazes the deeply moving and complicated plot that makes 'Synecdoche' the insanely original new triumph from Charlie Kaufman.

Both Kaufman fans and those who have a deep appreciation for high art cinema will enjoy this film. However, I would imagine that everyone else will loathe it. Synecdoche' is by no means an easy film in any sense. Again this is not your average movie or even your average art film, what we have here is something so original and so daring that it will be unable to be compared to any film and a piece of fine cinema that will last forever.

This one is sure to leave you with a smiling but heavy heart...
26 May 2009
Even though each character is surrounded by a shroud of mystery, somehow through these strange unfortunate events we are given the chance to know them better than anyone will. Forced to take holiday after years without taking a break, Hanna (played by Sara Polley) gives up her vacation to take care of a man severely burned on an oil rig. Honestly the plot comes second to the exploration into these amazingly complex characters. Every character has such a story to tell yet throughout most of the film we are only given small glimpses of who they really are. However, Hanna's guard is eventually let down and she reveals a shocking secret from her past that gives light to her being.

Sara Polley has her most shining moments in cinema to date... Until this film, to me she was always that chick from 'Go'. Now she has crossed the line into a fine actress. Tim Robbins also does a great job, though I have come to expect just that from him. The supporting cast does not disappoint either and gives applaud-able performances all around.

This is probably one of the most endearing and enthralling films where not much happens, however, because of the slow manner in which each character is revealed and miraculously developed I found myself demanding to know more during every second of each scene. 'The Secret Life Of Words' is a must see by those that favor strong character development and don't mind a slow moving film as long as its rewarding in the end.

A London take in the spirit of 'Kids'
24 May 2009
When one thinks of London, I don't think that any of us think 'hard'. However, like all major cities, there is always a grittier side because let's face it - Life is not all glitz and glamor. 'Kidulthood' is a tad hard to swallow, mainly because it breaks the mold of what we normally think of when we let our minds drift to the streets of London. Still, this is kids in the current generation, a very accurate portrayal that really make a compelling, thrill ride of a story. Those who have a problem keeping up with the slang of today, let alone British slang carelessly put together by a disturbed youth, might run into another problem trying to enjoy this film. Those who are ready and want a fresh, new, urban story with a strong message in the spirit of 'Kids' then give 'Kidulthood' a try.

Dinosaucers (1987)
10/10
As great as it was 20 years ago...
23 May 2009
'Dinosaucers' was my favorite 80's Saturday morning cartoon as a child... I recently got my hands on a rare collection of the complete season and it took me right back to those hours and hours I spent with my face 6 inches from the television screen every Satruday morning. Yes, 'Dinosaucers' is everything I remembered it to be. Everything from the rings, to Aloe, the big bad Bossosaur, and even the 'Dic' finale (that was featured at the end of most 80's cartoons) took me straight back to the 80's and rekindled the little kid in me.

If you are able to find a rare collection and you were a fan of the show as the child, pick it up, watch it for yourself, and even try it out on your own kids. 'Dinosaucers' is definitely a timeless classic and like most cartoons from the 80's, blows away all the current crap you see on t.v today.

Cliché but fun, 'Bloody Murder 2' is strictly for us hardcore Slasher fans!
21 May 2009
For horror and slasher fanatics only, Bloody Murder 2 manages to epitomize the entire b-squandered genre. All the elements are there... The camp with the bloody history, the killer with the mask, the stupid teenage camp counselors who have never taken an acting class, unadulterated sex, the token black guy, a slew of suspects, and of course plenty of gore. Yes, Bloody Murder 2, is everything a crap-tastic slasher film should be and more!

Camp Placid Pines has a bloody past. A masked killer known as Trevor Moorhouse had his way with some very unlucky campers about five years prior. When the camp is opened back up, so are the gates for a bloodletting massacre. Luckily for the little ones, this one takes place right after all the campers are left leaving only the teenage counselors open for slaughter. One specific teenage counselor is actually the sister of a boy who was murdered the first time around... And we can't be sure as to why she's returned to the killing ground, possibly to face her fears? I know one thing, if my family member were brutally murdered at the hands of a masked madman then I probably would not return to camp on the grounds... however if makes for a delightful little cliché slasher!

Again, if your not a slasher fan, then stay far, far away from this film... But if you are, then this is a must when it comes to killing time.

A Brilliant Piece of Cinema
21 May 2009
There are not many films out there that can touch on a subject so taboo and make you understand why they are who they are. In 'This Is England' we watch an 11 year old boy called Shaun face a gritty life in England his own special way. We watch an astounding progression from loner, to member of a harmless clique of 80's British punks, to a skinhead... but most importantly you see the point when the decisions of change are made and the reasoning behind them. There is a scene in the film after Shaun is shaved, dressed up to fit in with his fellow comrades, and walks with them in a grimy, dirty area with a backdrop of rust brightly colored fences that totally captures the essence of not only this film but that entire era for England as well... Really, you must see it to believe it and understand the beauty of it all. 'This Is England' is simply one of the best films out there and touches everything from your soul, to your brain, to your heart.

A refreshingly witty love story in Paris...
19 May 2009
I hope to god if I ever spend 2 days in Paris that my experience does not play out like this... You know, with more down's than up's in the romance department. Even though this film touches on the darker side of romance, it somehow still manages to be extremely entertaining in a French-Woody Allen kind of way. Some might not enjoy the word heavy comedy, but if you are a fan of independent film and have a deep appreciation for films that think out of the box then you should see '2 Days In Paris'.

Near the end of a their journey through Europe, two seasoned lovers return to Paris before their return to New York. Marion, played by Julie Delpy, is actually from Paris so she and her lover Jack, brilliantly played by Adam Goldberg, shack up in the apartment above Marion's parents. While fighting his way through translation, Jack begins to be taken over by paranoia as Marion engages in suspicious and erratic behavior. Is she hiding something? Is it lover's jealousy? Or is Jack just lost in the cross-hairs of American and French culture? These are the main questions this film explores all while introducing us to wonderfully developed characters, witty dialogue, and a unique pace that sets '2 Days in Paris' apart from other films.

Junebug (2005)
4/10
A promising 'Junebug' leaves a lot to be desired...
17 May 2009
If character development is something that all good Independent Films have in common, then why oh why is this film filled with critical acclaim. Don't be fooled as I was, Junebug is not a good film, it lacks a certain flare and the right amount of ingredients that you would expect from a film of this nature. The characters of 'Junebug' are so distant from each other that we can barely see them for who they are, this of course has nothing to with the actors, because the acting is indeed superb. Amy Adams, especially. When Adams graces the screen in 'Jungebug' is the only time I found that I was actually enjoying myself. Unfortunately for this film, she is not the main focus. Basically what we have here is distance in relationships. While trying to nap a prospective client, an art gallery owner from Chicago visits her future small town, Carolina in-laws with her boyfriend. She faces rejection by all of the family members, except for Adams, who seems almost obsessed with the idea of the rest of the family liking the big city, artsy girlfriend of her brother. There is no real resolution, however resolution isn't necessary when it comes to an Indy gem. Even so, Junebug fails to enthrall and entertain it's audience while becoming frustratingly monotonous in flow. Leave Junebug be unless your just itching to be thoroughly disappointed.

Look (2007)
9/10
Go ahead... Look!
16 May 2009
Just the very idea that cameras capture such a large percentage of our most intimate moments can send shivers down your spine or even make you smile that someone got a glimpse... Whether it was material suited for America's Funniest Home Video's, You-Tube junkies, or even the eyes of a snuff collector. Imagine if someone took all those moments, set them side by side with a total strangers, and fused it all together as if connecting a giant puzzle? Well, then you would have 'Look', of course.

At first glance, it's easy to write this film off... But look a little closer because it gets deep. Adam Rifkin, the director, captures everything (and I mean everything!) from moments that will make you laugh, rosy up your cheeks, and even leave you cringing with utter disgust. 'Look' does everything a top notch Indy film is supposed to and more. Don't let this one slip under the radar... Go ahead... Look!
