Interstellar (2014)
Good to know!
So, except that, the film is awesome cinematography, visual art, acting, everything. I will concentrate only on the bad parts. The ideology behind the movie is obvious. Science will save the earth, along with the courage of humans to leave their families for the ,,greater good" of the ,,species". The word ,,species" is used as a very important word that defines all the relations between humans. So... the main idea is that we should all sacrifice as individuals for the greater good. Ww should put our lives and our families in stake for ,,the human species". Surely, this filosophy is well fit for a large public but ... in the end is just politics.
Scent of a Woman (1992)
Only this and nothing more
I rated other movies that were cinematically better with a lower rate. I believe that this film has some flaws, not to be denied. Some clichés, like the applause at the end, the bad guy being good on the inside and so on. I don't want to see this side. A movie doesn't have to be perfect, it should be like a human, with ups and downs, and I will evaluate by considering how high are the ups.
In scent of a woman, the ups are high up in the sky, the story and the acting are legendary, absolutely magnificent and you are left with a feeling that makes you want to fight. Yes, that's right, makes you want to fight, against injustice, against cowardice, against...and that made me remember instantly about Mr. Smith goes to Washington. The supreme idealist, the child we should all be like.
I feel this movie is one that should be somewhere in the universal patrimony of humanity because it contains and explains in one story all the themes of humanity, all our fears and ideals: death, idealism vs materialism, honesty, richness vs. poorness, the mysterious course of life, illness, frustration, war, child innocence, sincerity, vulgarity vs academy and I could go on with this...
It seems to me that all acting was great, except maybe the principal of the school that looked like a cartoon character. I don't even want to remind the flaws cause within my eyes this movie was flawless. There is no flaw, there is just the idea left deep in my head, in my soul. Only this and nothing more.
Black Swan (2010)
A masterpiece - not for me! Ingredients: creepiness, creepiness, creepiness!
I kept thinking whether I would rate this film with a 9 or an 8. I picked 9, for the best performance of an actress I have ever seen and for the Aronofsky specific directing skills. I will admit that this is probably the most intense movie I have ever seen.
Nevertheless, I could have never rated this movie with a 10, because in my views it is not a work of art. Art should not create intense emotions of panic, depression... I believe I couldn't rate it with a 10 because it was actually a horror movie even if officially it is not a horror. But it is, and it is only depressing and spooky and it brings together all the creepiness you can find in this world of ours. Art should be encouraging, full of hope, should bring joy to the world, not creepiness, not fear, we can easily find these in the real world. Me, I prefer Roberto Benigni, whom I would love to watch over and over again.
I would never watch Black Swan again, and if I would turn back the time, I wouldn't watch it for the first time. I would only want to see it again and rate it with a 10 if I were a fan of depression and panic attacks! As I already said, only for the huge, genius effort of Natalie Portman I rated it so high!
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
Wow! Definitely a life changing film
I hope you all watch this movie ladies and gentlemen. I'm still under the impression of Mr. Smith. I prefer to write this now, not to loose my enthusiasm, as I probably will soon, turning back to routine and triviality of everyday.
I find that Mr. Smith is the voice that we all have in us, the voice of the conscience, the need for righteousness. Look at this movie, you will feel the strange impossibility of sitting comfortable in your bed or armchair, you will stand up for the last half an hour of the film believe this if you can. No movie made me fill so alive, so present, so powerful. I'm telling you I'm not easy to impress, I saw lots of movies and I never felt the urge to write such a review.
Do not say, as I could have easily argued and sustain that this is a classical American propaganda movie. Don't destroy the idea of this film by taking it like that. OK, remove the whole American propaganda frame and think of it like there is just a man who will fight a rotten mechanism, who will dedicate his energy to mankind, to his fellows.I still feel I haven't said enough but...there is much to say about justice and politics, there are libraries out there in the whole world. Just see this, it is a simple movie, the simplest you can get, but all so you can better see the essence. The essence is not covered with stuff. All the lights are on this essence I'm telling you about. Have a nice day everybody!
4 luni, 3 saptamâni si 2 zile (2007)
Probably best Romanian movie
This is a movie from the highest rated young Romanian director who won highest appreciation from the Cannes festival (Golden Palm) in 2007. It's a movie that will make you feel like a human being again and after seeing it you will surely think much better about Romanian cinematography. The movie is a drama of a human being that is oppressed by the communist regime in Romania, one of the most criminal regimes of this century. In the last years of the Romanian communism, the dictator's wife "Elena Ceausescu" made it clear for everyone that abortion is no longer permitted and that had a lot of implications later on. Although the movie is not about the regime itself but about the character and her personal drama. 4 Months 3 Weeks & 2 Days is supposedly the beginning of a series of films Mungiu is hoping to make called The Golden Age, each about life in Communist Romania. I hope he's successful; if this film is an example of the kind of rough-hew humanity and blunt realism we can expect in future films, I'd definitely seek them out. As it is, 4 Months 3 Weeks & 2 Days moved me and challenged me, made me feel and made me think, demonstrated the personal and political challenges of a heartbreaking choice that, in many ways, is no choice at all-- and that's a rare enough achievement, and one worthy of seeking out. This movie is a work of art
John Q (2002)
a truly excellent movie!!!
Low rated on IMDb, the mark does not reflect the quality of the movie at all. In my opinion John Q is a story that everybody should watch, about a man who has no alternative but to outrun himself. The excellent acting of my favorite actor (Denzel Washington) makes you cry even if you don't use to cry at movies. John Quincy Archibald is a role-model of a human being with the same inner strength like Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter (also a personage in another movie of Denzel). This movie will make everyone of you to be a better man with stronger moral principles and more kind. After this movie you will HATE bureaucracy and everything that has to do with it, and you will LOVE kindness between people with no interest for money or something else.
