As Good as It Gets (1997)
A different and loveable love story
Nicholson is truly spectacular as usual, but this time as the OCD driven hot headed man, Nicholson is a chameleon when it comes to acting. Not to forget the performances of other actors who also a rather good.
My main criticism for this film is the lack of the idea of Spencer being ill and how it's shut off as the romance gets deeper.
Dirty Harry (1971)
Inspector Eastwood behind a destructive and cat and mouse mystery
Firstly, Eastwood's portrayal as the cool headed and smooth inspector who screams out with badassery. Delivering one of the most iconic and righteous quotes in history.
The full continual tense and suspenseful atmosphere is heavily built on from start to finish, a foreboding sense of fear and mystery is also tied deep within.
Finally, the ending. Eastwood once again carries his arrogant, cool, chilled persona and rightfully earns his place as the most badass man to grace Hollywood. Delivering his signature line and then throwing off his Inspector page knowing he's superior and the justice system is corrupt.
Escape from Alcatraz (1979)
The Incredible Alcatraz Escape
Eastwood powerfully leads this cast as Frank Morris, the head man of the Escape From Alcatraz. The deep visual, yet enthralling grittiness and violent tone emphasises the brutality of prison and helps increase the tension of the most iconic prison escape in history. Finally, delivering a perfect cliffhanger ending that fits right into one of the most famous mysteries of all time.
The Imitation Game (2014)
Engaging, yet devastating true story of the man that helped England win the war
The Imitation Game follows the life of the genius Alan Turing, who during WW2 cracked the enigma code and it delves into his deeper life and his childhood struggle. His child hood pain and suffering devastates the viewer, but this devastation is overwhelmed by his phenomenal success and then crushed again by his secretive life. All in which is powerfully shown by Benedict Cumberbatch who delivers his superior performance.
North by Northwest (1959)
Hitchcock's cat and mouse spy masterpiece
A constant feel of tension and suspense, backed up with a MacGuffin mystery that is sure to interest. Cary Grant carries his cool, chilled, but hotheaded persona that spotlights the chase. Not to forget the cat and mouse romantic feel that is embedded into the plot, with the beautiful Eva Marie Saintat the depth of it. Finally, the incredible cliché, yet not ending that hits so fast like a train. A perfect finale.
A Few Good Men (1992)
Incredible Law Film
A very tense and thorough law film that hooks in the viewer very very powerfully. A phenomenal performance from Nicholson and a solid one from Cruise, these performances help into emphasising the full film and creating a suspenseful atmosphere.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)
Stewart and Wayne work perfectly together, creating a phenomenal atmosphere of tension
James Stewart delivers, as always, a captivating performance that enhances the plot and especially his character. John Wayne carries his tough guy persona as the laid back cool Tom Doniphon, who knows he's the best. Many other actors also are fabulous and powerfully bring each of their own individual and different characters to life. Overall, a enthralling and twisting western tale that will go down as a great.
Papillon (1973)
So gritty and captivating
McQueen and Hoffman are two of the best with McQueen easily giving one of his best performances, which is so gritty, bizarre, yet incredibly enthralling. The cinematography reels in the viewer and embeds then deep into the story itself, allowing one to feel the suffering and pain.
