Strange Wilderness (2008)
Unbelievable rubbish
I got that movie yesterday in order to spend a nice evening watching the comedy. The truth was I spent one of the worst experience related to movies!Who created that movie? Is it supposed to be called "movie" ? How is this possible that people make films of this kind? Aren't the actors ashamed to play in such crap? I think I would kill myself after appearing in Strange wilderness. And who wrote the screenplay? Wasn't it the school homework for a couple of teenies? This film was a total rubbish. The humor they used was absolutely horrible and awkward. The idea was absurd, or actually it had no idea. The performances were utterly embarrassing. I think that anyone who likes Strange wilderness must be either under drugs or mentally deranged. Oh God...
Off the Record: Bono and The Edge: Off the Record (2006)
They'd be welcome to my house too
Yeah, despite the fact that the show didn't host the whole group I must admit that two of them were enough...even one of them would be enough! They bear a huge history with them, a giant production, hundreds audiences left behind - but it still fits them to fetch up among a smaller group of people in a studio that reminds of restaurant. For U2 fans it is not necessary to highlight Bono and The Edge's memories of their (band's) past. The majority knows that each song has had a specific history of writing, conditioned mainly by things happening around. I think that show is worth seeing because of the artists themselves. U feel they are awesome personalities. Maybe sometimes people get bored by Bono's intensive speech about something I would call "his own philosophy", but it's not the case. Anyway, the only thing I got disappointed by was the fact that they didn't play any song unplugged. I could notice an adorning guitar hanging on the back wall, but it stayed silent. Pity. For me it's always been a fabulous experience to hear them playing the simple way.
Pásla kone na betóne (1982)
Film which every Slovak should keep in mind
Well, the movie talks about various life lines taking place in the countryside of Eastern Slovakia. If you were Slovak, you would not probably understand everything - the movie uses the dialect coming from that country part. We can't indeed say what the genre of the movie is. The tragic moments are always colored with comedy, and we can claim the same conversely. The life of main protagonist had been changing since she slept with the well - digger. He left, she got pregnant and started bringing out a daughter. It 's not fun to have a child without a real husband in that social environment. The burden of past keeps following her in every moment, seems, wearing her out. The most of the movie was taken around the city Presov - in picturesque landscape , traditional village typical for that era and all this fact serves as a unique sight within past life. Well, as much as you wanna enjoy it. Life that seems to be simple isn't automatically truly simple.
Dedictví aneb Kurvahosigutntag (1992)
One of the greatest Czech cult pieces
That movie is an absolute comedy. Bolek Polivka, big star of Czech film and theater scene does more than good job and seems it would not function without him. He's got indeed a villager's style, always holding a plum brandy bottle in hands. To my dismay I must admit that other actors are not very good, most of them cant be seen very often in good movies (Ok, M.Donutil is very good). But doesn't matter. The film shows a story about sudden getting huge amount of money, unexpectedly inherited. This event makes up the main plot. I recommend that movie to everybody. Im sure that kind of that humor is versatile, suitable for everybody. This movie means a lot for Czechs or Slovaks, they consider it to be a cult one. It has not been probably overcome by any other Czech or Slovak comedy. I can say thats also a challenge for (mainly) Slovak cinematography, which gets stuck last couple of years.
Microcosmos: Le peuple de l'herbe (1996)
Beautiful, fresh, cutie, natural
I am still not sure if it is counted as a documentary or film, but this does not matter. I always liked nature so this movie is near to my spirits. I wished to see it as 3D but I think that such a release has not come up yet. The movie does not need any comment or subtitles. Just watch it. Keep on and you will learn who you are and where you live. The documentary is about everything, although it focused mainly on insects. You can imagine what just an innocent step in microcosmos can cause. All these little cuties and monsters have their own world and microcosmos maps it with a mild sight. French are great at such documentaries and this can be seen as a kind of conclusion. Beautiful shots, I can imagine setting the camera for hours, waiting for proceeding of an ant and then show all that crusade during several seconds. Maybe it seems that this kind of movie does not need any screenplay, but I do not agree with it. When you watch it, you find out it made some sense. Insects also behave according to schedules and needs. Actually, there is no point in describing the movie here, you must see it and you will want more to see. Beautiful beauty.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Ridiculous piece of splashing cheap ketchup?
No, no, it did not make me anxious, it did not make me grasp my pillow, no, no, it did not function. The scenes were really open-minded, no fear to show cutting human (human or zombie, just a matter of make-up there)heads or shooting as far as it reloads. But, please...was it meant to be a comedy? Whoever could think out an idea about living death, but this is supposed to be a movie that ought to attract eager-for-horror audience. Was it successful? Hardly! By the way, where did they take the main protagonists from? Because, for instance, the black one (I already forgot his name)could not convince me at all. And his voice...did you hear it?It was stony! Was he really so much cold-blood or he played main shots as if he revised the screenplay in his dressing room? Well, the blood looked like a cheap water-ketchup punch, it's hard to make convincing scenes setting off such a punch every minute. People in that period of time did not know what's the color of blood? As far as I know, the color of blood doesn't change, which means these people immediately knew they were watching some dinner-breaking disgust which was ridiculous at the same time. I can recommend this movie though: watch it to know how filming changed since Dawn, though not forgetting that there wouldn't be anything better without Dawn.
The Descent (2005)
Stealing u2 headline must say: Achtung baby!
Reading my previous comments you can assume I am playing a tough and demanding piece of audience. But it is out of right point. The descent got me!What a trap, what a cave! The atmosphere of movie is awesome. Narrow paths reflecting the light jumbled up is unique in this case. Good place! A healthy screenplay delighted me. No crap, i must admit. It was as close to the very originality as close to the plot pieces of horror movies. There are many scenes which kick a breath out of you, count on it. I counted on it and it still functioned. I checked my pulse several times and yes, it could break any polygraph. Although some sudden freaking started being a little predictable, it was not boring at all. The good part was the input of sort of unconscious imagination, which usefully confused me or returned me back to the despair of Sarah. The freaks living in the cave were scary, for me they were. Their color really fits the cave furniture. I partly did not consume the parts where girls record stuff by camera, Blair witching is barely to be overcome, but it was fine. Believe me, I would never ever visit such a cave, crawling in narrow corridors. And one more thing- watch that film in cinema to get proper sound and image. And then you better go for a bier to abreact. Otherwise....achtung baby...
High Art (1998)
Something's missing...what's that?
I'm trying to be objective but I think that's impossible when somebody wants to evaluate a movie, oh...Well,High Art overcame my standards but almost in every scene I missed something. Maybe it was a weird camera, maybe it was a doubt if all those photos - evaluated as an art? - were someway precious indeed. I could see some spark in them, as much as a common void you can see in photos taken from an amusement park. Anyway,it finished very fast and the death of that lesbian photographer didn't raise any deeper emotions in me. I could say it was "nice" or likable and thats all. Was the screenplay compact? Except for this I can understand lower budget for production but I am sure that better screenplay and - probably- better actresses would kick a soul out of this movie idea, sorry for bad word. I am not any lesbian and I think High Art is not strictly for the lesbian. Leading a drama Art, it stroke me as being a bit amateur piece. For me, disappointment. Awaited more. There is just a silence in my head after this movie. My apologies, rest in peace.
C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
Brilliant job, Montreal!
I got that movie by chance. My girl brought it, I sorta played non believing Thomas, she was repeating the movie was supposed to be good. Well, it wasn't good. It was fabulous. And the soundtrack! Of course, I had to get some of Charles Aznavour later. His lyrics corresponded with the movie ideas and meanings. Except for this, main protagonist was really good. His hair styles, smoking, accidents....all this made him very original, which I consider to be very rare nowadays. Its pity that guy probably hasn't made anything comparable before. I just wonder why this movie isn't so much distributed in cinemas. At least not here. Thats a sin, my God.I was glad I found a good movie. There is lots of crap around us...u know...Thanx for C.R.A.Z.Y., Canada!
