Cloverfield (2008)

A must see movie!!!!
19 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Well for those of you that haven't seen this movie, please don't read any further, but for those that have seen it or those that don't mind be spoiled, read on.....Cloverfield is one of those movies that will leave you with more questions than answers at the end.  What is this monster?  Where did it come from?  Is it truly evil?  What is it's motivation?  Did they finally destroy it at the end?  Is there going to be a sequel!!!!????  All these thoughts were with me when I left the movie last night.  Well let me describe the monster first of all, because to be quite honest, if you have a weak or queasy stomach, I would recommend not seeing this movie, as it is taken with a hand held camera and jumps around a lot.  Anyway, the monster is huge!  It sort of looks like a dinosaur, but not quite.  It has huge red like lungs pulsating out of its head and huge fangs for teeth.  It releases spider/crab like creatures into the city and they seem even more terrifying than the monster itself.  These crab like creatures carry some sort of plague or infection that makes people blow up...and I will just leave it at that.  I believe that this monster pretty much just destroys NYC, because this tape seems to have been found later by people in the future and becomes property of The Department of Defense.  The unrealistic sides of the movie are a camera that never loses it's charge, a cameraman that can almost superhumanly keep filming this chaos all around him, and a monster that seems to be indestructible to bombs, missiles, artillery.  What is this monster?  I don't know, and I hope J.J. Abrams sheds some light on this in the future.  I have some theories and if you are interested, feel free to email me.  Thanks.

Good Movie, a little boring in the middle
30 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
OK, this movie is good, however, there are few things that could have been changed to make it better. I believe there was way too much emphasis on the bonsai tree. All of the mountain climbing tree planting etc....was just plain boring to me. The fighting scenes on the other hand were excellent. As usual Mr. Miyagi did a wonderful job of acting. Ralph Macchio, however, was less than watchable, he is pudgy and whiny and seems a lot less skilled. He beat Johnny in part one, He beat the the oriental guy in part two, and he has all these wonderful skills that miyagi has taught him, yet he can't beat Barnes "Bad Boy"????? Come on!!!!! In both scenes where Miyagi fought Barnes, he easily defeated him....and I mean easily! Yet, Daniel can't even hold a leg to Barnes! I just don't get it! Miyagi wiped the floor with both John Krese and Terry Silver, he had absolutely no problem with either of them,(I never could understand why Miyagi didn't fight Sato in part II, that would have been excellent! but that is a whole other story) and he is the trainer of Daniel.....yet Daniel is still such a wimp! In my opinion, just because he beat Barnes in the tournament doesn't mean he will ever be able to beat him in a street fight, because with that kata move he did to Barnes in the tournament, Barnes could have gotten up and beaten him down in a street fight with no officiating. I would recommend seeing this movie if you are a Karate Kid fan, even though it isn't as good as the other ones, just for pure curiosity sake.

OK, let's stop dissing part three
30 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Like most folks out there, I truly enjoyed Part one and Part two, but I keep hearing from various users that Part three needs to be avoided. I don't agree with this. If you are a true Karate Kid fan....like myself....Part three is worth looking at. It has a semi-OK story line and it finally shows Miyagi having a "real" fight with John Kreese, not just him moving out of the way and Krese busting his hands through a car window....come on....that would never happen in a real world fight, the opponent would simply continue fighting, even with his bloody hand, but enough about that.

Again, I enjoyed part two, Although I wish the producers had decided to film a fight between Miyagi and Sato! That would have been awesome!

I just wish people would stop saying avoid Part three, avoid Next Karate Kid, because true fans will watch the good and bad.

I am also a big time Rocky Fan and yes, I have all six episodes and I watch them again and again, even though some people will say avoid part 5.

Watch Karate Kid Part two for scenery and fighting scenes, watch Karate Kid Part one because the original is always the best, and yes, I am going to say this.....if you are a true Karate Kid fan...watch Part three, if anything just for mere curiosity.
