Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008 Video)

why ?
15 September 2008
This was an ill advised belated and unnecessary sequel to a cult 80s's classic. All this movie has got going for it is a smoking hot female vampire who gets killed off way too early. Tom Salvini was showcasing his special effects, especially when he gets his head sliced off. Angus Sutherland had the personality of a blunt surfboard and he's not on a patch on Keifer ! The original Lost Boys worked with 80s Goths, not with extreme sports rejects and Surfer dudes. Corey Feldman, i'm sure he's grateful for the work, but he's faxed in performance as Edgar Frog was the equal vent of an automated answering machine! The ironic joke in ending, where he faces a (vampire god forbid) Corey Haim was so lame. Check it out when your drunk or if you'll out of work and have nothing to do for an hour and a half! Somehow I don't think Jason Patrick was interested in reprising his role.

self indulgent boring third rate vanity project
28 August 2008
Recently I couldn't get into any performance of The Dark Knight, so myself and my mate looked for an alternative. I should gone home and watched Eastenders this boring pretentious mockney nonsense, barely kept me awake . The main character (the first black hooligan) was about is menacing as the Hofmeister Bear. Unlike the cruely underrated Rise Of The Footsoldier which was slated to pieces. This film was a winded pretentious biopic of somebody nobody cares about. The acting was dreadful, especially the person who plays Cass's wife, hearing her winy nicotine voice was the equalvent of hearing a blackboard being scratched!! Why was this given a 18 certificate ?

Should have been a TV special not a Summer Blockbuster !
20 August 2008
I can see why this flopped it's so boring and the plot is not suited to the cinema. It's basically an extended version of the TV series. The first spin off film had a bigger scale in budget and plot. A plot of body part transplants is hardly that exciting and the whole thing was non to be honest. Billy Connily was unconvincing as a paedophile ex priest who castrated himself, he comes off as a cuddly old man not a menacing figure! As for Mulder and Scully they look bored and have descended into self parody! Even the brief appearance of Skinner is like a forced reunion to keep the comic guy(from the simpsons) type nerds happy. If it was a one off TV special it would have better received. Chris Carter is a television director- not film and it shows. Also this had no chance competing with The Dark Knight commerically at the box office!

Superb for the wrong reasons
11 August 2008
My god a over plastic Ray Liotta giving hammy overacting a new definition with his broad New Jersey acting as an evil wizard/sorcerer ???. Burt Reynolds as a king?? He looks so bored, his hairpiece was more awake. Matther Liilard was basically being an obnoxious version of his Shaggy role. As for Jason Statham he looks he came straight off the set of Crank, as much as I find the guy superb- low rent sword & sorcery is not his forte!! Still without miscasts from hell- this is entertaining and enjoyable. Just get very drunk- while viewing it! I've heard this director is infamous for making appalling video game adaptations- it's true.

Superb Comedy Genius- Best Laugh in Years!!
28 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Adam Sandler has handled a very tricky subject matter very well. I mean a comedy about an Irsaeli Mossad agent fighting Comedy Arab terrorists- is pure genius. Plus it's even more hilarious when Sandler fakes his own death to become a hairdresser in Brooklyn, his libido style makes him a hit with middle aged ladies when he gets his chance. Even better when his sworn enemy The Phamtom- superbly played by John Tuturro has also come to New York to face him with amusing results. Rob Schneider is also very amusing as a grumpy Arab taxi driver. I also like the fact that it shows the realistic portrayals of Arab/Jewish communities in New York mingling together. I know this is a hard sell to many people, but if you lighten up and forget the ignorant prejudices this is a very funny film. I also like the subliminal insults towards Mr Mel Gibson- because of his right wing and anti Semetic views (while he was very drunk!!) Somehow I can't imagine Sandler or Schneider co starring in a belated pointless Lethal Weapon 5!!

bring back the master this sucks!!!!!
16 July 2008
The third series was superb with the Mr Saxon set up. The fourth was appalling Catherine Tate was useless with a capital U, John Barrowman was boring, Billie Piper was like The Chav Avenger, Freema Whats her face had the charisma of a Dalek Plunger. As for poor old David Tennant, in my personal opinion he is still suffering from the superb OTT performance of John Simms in the previous series. The Sontarans and the Rome episodes had potential, then it went totally Pete Tong so to speak. Bringing back Davros was inevitable, but he was disappointing and had very little to do. As for the Daleks they have have become too repetitive and caricature. Instead they are like David Walliams spurting 'The computer says no' instead of exterminate. I realise Russel T Davies is trying to reach out a new audience, instead he is alienating them!! John Simms needs to come back to liven this up again now!

Every Male's dream come true!!
15 July 2008
My god this is a male fantasy come true !!

You're in a dead end office job- then in a supermarket the ever seductive Angelina Jolie is literally right behind you. Then you're in a crazy shoot out/car chase. Soon after you're told you dad was a highly trained killer and you have over three million dollars in your bank account! Then you tell your pathetic bully of a boss some painful home truths and kick your two faced best best friend's arse! You then learn to become a highly trained killer and member of The Fraternity, if only this was my life- if only. Okay it's a shameful rip off of The Matrix, but hey in a world of wussy PG13 Action movies- this is a rare find! Plus their is a killer twist.

Highlander: The Source (2007 TV Movie)

Crap- but not as bad as it's made out to be !!
14 July 2008
Alright it's not a great film, but compared to Highlander 2 this is Scorsese material! Adrian Paul is an actor who never lived up to his potential- Highlander The TV Series was a great contrast to the classic original film. But he became a straight to video kinda guy and some of the films he's churned out since have been unwatchable! Back to the film it's entertaining, if muddled. If you pretend it's not a Highlander film- you'll appreciate it more. The action and special effects are good. The villain looks ludicrous and he's no Kurgan by any means. But with an attractive woman in the mix and some so so swordplay, this is worth a good two beers/Doritos!

Good to watch when you pull a sickie
7 July 2008
My god this film is bad, however it is strangely watchable. Especially if you have a DVD player in your room, you're ill on a weekday or pulling a sickie. I like watching bad ghost films on a cold miserable day. This wasn't scary apart from watching the wasted potential of Adrian Paul's career ! The ghosts in questions resemble something out of a rundown ghost train attraction or a half baked equalivent of the ghost army from 'Return Of The King'. Still it's watchable as it does have some very mild suspense. For the duriation of the film I would recommend some hot soup and a toasted cheese sandwich, or 1 low volume alcoholic beer- depends on your mood!

BBC luvies strolling round North London
1 July 2008
When I was a child in 1984 I think I saw the first rerun of this adaptation and I was terrified. When I brought the DVD a few years ago my perspective changed dramatically. All it is are a bunch of BBC darlings not acting very well and running away from Garden centre props who sound like Skippy The Kangaroo. I also find it amusing that it was filmed mainly in trendy parts of North London. Hampstead, Belsize Park, Primrose Hill and Camden Lock. Cleary the majority of actors and producers lived round that neck of the woods. Hey it' s good budget reductions. If you're from that part of London you will know what I mean! But hey 80s nostalgia is 90% of the time a mistake when it is rewatched in the noughties.

underrated classic
30 May 2008
Unfortunately with the release of American Gangster this film was neglected. It's a shame because this other New York crime thriller is just as good. 80s New york is a different world from The Sex & The City image it has now- not that's a good thing ! But this is a accurate portrayal of recent history & any New Yorker from that period can tell you this. Mark Walberg & Jaquin Phoneix are great as brothers on the opposite sides of the law. You forget that the Russians were still part of The Soviet Union, they were realistic villains. I also like the way parts of Brooklyn are shown that are not normally in Hollywood films I hope it gets a reappraisal on DVD in later years.

Straight to video gem
19 March 2008
A work mate lent me this on the off chance and I was pleasantly surprised. I initially thought this would be the usual straight to video crap. However their was a really good story in this film. I like the comparisons of Predator and to some extent The Keep. The premise of indestructible Nazis materialising as & when, created from a long forgotten experiment is a superb idea. Ray Stevenson like Jasan Statham is one of those rare things, a Brit who can carry an action/horror film. He was great in Rome and I have high expectations of him in the upcoming Punisher sequel. Back to the film, just because it bypasses the cinema, dos-en't mean it's rubbish!! Check it out

only worth watching for Heather Thomas & Jewel Shepard
19 February 2008
This film is is pure 80s crud. However it does have one obvious thing going for it. Attractive 80s female day-players running around half dressed! Not to mention the cut price Heather Lockleah ( Heather Thomas or possibly her double) in a state of undress- yummy! This also applies to the dead sexy Jewel Shepard !!!!!!!!!!! That is why I have awarded this masterpiece 2 out of 10, instead of 1! Apart from that is totally and utterly unwatchable. Scott Baio was and still is a third rate Steve Guttenburg. However I do like the UK video sleeve of this awful movie! But this was a long time ago. I can see why any actor involved in this rubbish is too ashamed to admit starring in it!

bad mistake wesley snipes never recovered from
7 February 2008
Even with the yummy Jessica biel and the watchable Ryan Reynolds this film was a colossal disaster zone for poor Wesley Snipes career. The first Blade was superb action & horror combined. The second Blade was more Gothic in tone =, but cool at the same time. The third Blade was like an extended version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer- big mistake. Wesley Snipes publicly disowned this picture and he looks bored to death through out. Even the great Domminc Purcel from the superb Prison Break is a lame Dracula. He comes off as a moody male model walking down the catwalk in Milan! Poor Wesley hasn't had a proper cinema release since this lame rubbish. I hope with his recent tax troubles, he can use this film as a write off!

I Am Legend (2007)

Depressing boring and pointless remake
7 February 2008
This film was gloomy from start to finish. All it is Will Smith fighting off bald vampire types and finding a cure at the same time. These film was too heavy handed for a blockbuster film, The Omega man was not a great film, but compared to this tripe it's a classic. It also had one thing going for it was fun. Also The Omega Man reflected the 60s and early 70s in many ways. The remake simply wasn't good and the script was rubbish. This film could of been better if they made it more of an action film, with one important ingredient entertainment. Unfortunately I Am Legend was the cinematic version of attending a funeral service- avoid!!!!!!

John Simms The Heath Ledger of Dr Who
7 November 2007
Lke Jack Nicholson/Heath Ledger in Batman, John Simm totally was the star. He made David Tennant look like Colin Baker in the Dr Who stakes. Every bit of screen time he had, was classic. It's always more fun to play baddies and he needs to come back to this show ASAP. The Master has always been the No1 Dr Who baddie- period. However compared to John Simms, The previous actors come off as Dick Darstidly gone wrong! I have worn out my VHS seeing his scenes. Don't forget the Scissor Sisters Scenes- very funny and when regenerates- pure quality. Even when he dies, he refuses defeat. Please resurrect his character, as you need a flamboyant pyschopath with a taste for camp retro themed disco music on Saturday Evening TV!!!!!!!!!!

Violent entertainment at it's best!!
26 September 2007
Finally we have a relentless john woo type gun fest. Not wussy PG13 rubbish!!!!!!!

Britsh actors like Clive Owen & Jason Statham put their American counterparts to shame. I love over the top violence in this film and the predicament's of the 'Shoot em Ups' had me in hysterics. Paul Giamatti- not the kind of person you would expect to be a baddie in this genre is brilliant too. After seeing this film you will never feel the same about carrots again! It's one of those films you watch at a late screening or on video with pizza & beers and have fun. Can't wait for the DVD release!!

Death Proof (2007)

release the whole movie & trailers- not just the rubbish 2nd feature!
17 September 2007
First of all the American public are dumb neglecting a rehash of trashy 70s films. You are being deprived of the superb trailers of D Grade horror flicks, secondly Death Proof is self indulgent rubbish. Don't get me wrong I love Tarantino, but all this is Kurt Russell being a vile pervert with a death fetish. Not to mention being humiliated by simply the three most annoying women, including a squeaky kiwi you just to be a road kill, even the the yummy Rosario Dawson winds me up. The first feature is far superior on many levels. The Weinstein's should not listen to dumb teens misguided conceptions who overdose on popcorn sequels and release a great genre revamp.

Miscast actor & Two Decades two late!
15 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This would have been good if this was made in the mid 80s and it stared somebody like Rutger Hauer. Also if the likes of Paul Verhoven had handled the direction, it would be more promising ala Flesh & Blood. I love the original Highlander, but Christopher Lambert has gone down hill big time. He plays his role in all round terms a chump & his swordplay is pitiful- I don't think he even kills anyone!! In Highlander, he would have made mincemeat of the baddie- he gets humiliated by him. As for the bad guy, he is actually the good guy- huh ? The DVD Cover is misleading as you see him with a sword, thinking your in for a Highlander type swordfest- hell no !.
