Father's Day (I) (2011)
Over-the-top but entertaining
9 October 2013
You can't really expect much from this film but for a film that had such a low budget, it was done very well. OK, it's not a film I would recommend to everybody or anybody really. It is extremely gory, perverse and very weird. But I won't say I wasn't entertained.

The hero of the story plays two different characters: a bad-ass you can cheer on and a fool you can laugh at. The supporting characters are all quite similar to the latter but they do have their heroic moments. The villain is pretty much the most vile and disgusting human being I have ever seen on film which does make an example of a true villain when it comes to exploitation films.

The film is presented in a very grindhouse style fashion which is good because we know it actually a b-movie rather than a movie with a big budget to get well known actors and getting a b-movie style. The soundtrack is also very good and fits into the film very well, especially the rock songs.

Overall it's hard to say much else about this film. To me, it was just an entertaining film with a simple plot, black humour and extreme shock value.

A big improvement over past instalments
9 October 2013
I have always been a huge fan of the child's play films with the exception of Seed. This film however brings back the franchise by going back to it's roots and also adding some twists that makes this film stand out.

For a direct to DVD film, it was a very well made film. Brad Dourif returns as Chucky in fine form both as doll and human form. Along with many other members of the cast including his daughter Fiona. All of the main characters are very well written so the film becomes more than a typical slasher film where you are just waiting for these people to be killed.

It's hard to make a horror icon scary again when so many people are familiar with them but this film does not fail with that when they redesigned him and left out much of the overuse of camp that made Seed so unbearable. The kills can be a little over the top but that shouldn't put any horror fan off watching it.

The story is the best thing about this film. The first half of the film makes itself seem like it was just following the story of the first one but the second half gives out some extreme twists, suspense and a surprising after credits scene as well.

The one problem I had was the connection between the ending and the post credits. Did the post credits scene follow the ending or vice-versa.

Overall though, this is a truly amazing sequel that deserve a cinema release rather than just a DVD release. It delivers everything that the first film did plus a little more.

Creepy in places but nothing new
5 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
OK this is no classic but it's not suppose to be one. The storyline is a group of kids go to a cabin after one of the kid's twin sister commits suicide under mysterious circumstances. As soon as they arrive, they get haunted by a creepy ghost. It is also a remake but I haven't seen the original so I cannot compare this film to it.

I think all the actors do a decent job though R. Lee Ermey definitely steals the show as a creepy resident in the woods. I think what I like about his character is the mystery that he carries with him which is what keeps me interested in finding out what his deal is. With the exception of his character, everyone else seems rather dull mostly because they have been done before with many other horror movies. You have the good girl who is the main character, the love interest who maybe holding a deadly secret and there is the joker who is a bit of a jerk. It's all too traditional to be but the performances of all the actors does make them very believable that you can see past those traditional clichés of the characters.

The film doesn't deliver a great deal of scares but when it does, they really work and that is best thing about this film. The ghost is very creepy looking and the story does keep you hooked as the characters try to find out the mystery of what it is that is haunting them and why the ghost is doing it. As in most nowadays ghosts films, it is all about what has happened to them that has caused them to be dead which I have no problem with just so long as the twist is something new which I found the revelation of the main villain who caused the ghost's death to be rather obvious but the identity of the ghost was a surprise. This was because the film would tease you to believe that the ghost was the main character's twin sister but it turns out to be someone different.

Overall, the film isn't very original but it does have some qualities such as believable performances, a surprising twist and some eerie scenes that should keep most ghost story fans hooked but don't expect anything new.

Piranha 3D (2010)

Better than Expected
21 August 2010
The trailer made the film look like it wasn't going to be very good so let me start by saying it was better than expected. The reason I decided to come see it is because of one man, Alexandre Aja. He is one of the few directors that actually remakes horror films that need to be remade and in result, does an amazing job such as The Hills have Eyes or Mirrors which is a remake of Japanese film that I hadn't even heard of until Mirrors came out.

Let me start by saying the positive. The storyline is completely different to the original. In the original, you have mutant piranhas that have escaped from a lab where here you have prehistoric piranhas that escapes from an underwater earthquake so its nice to see something fresh.

The acting itself was OK, even from the extras in this film. They're either having a good time or getting scared because killer fish are trying to eat them. Nearly all the women were hot, so hot it would turn a gay man straight. Elizabeth Shue performed her character very well as a police officer that wants to keep the community safe where it is drunken teenagers or killer fish and most of the other actors performed their characters well also.

The 3D effects showed some fantastic scenes of gore that can actually be quite disturbing, even for a gore fan. This isn't a film for a person with a weak stomach or for kids either. It makes Jaws feel like the Care Bears when it comes to the gore. In glad it was in 3D as it made the film very suspenseful in parts as well. It caused me and the audience to have some very jumpy moments that you were least suspecting.

The best part of the film was the ending. I won't say anything else but see the ending and you will know what I am talking about.

The only negative thing I would say is the CGI. The Piranhas looked very cartoonish and not realistic enough. They weren't the worst effects in the world and the piranhas looked fierce enough but they didn't seem like real piranhas. Luckily, because of how the film was going, it didn't bother me very much at all. All you have to do is sit, relax and enjoy.

Overall this film isn't everybody, we all know that but it is enough to impress moat horror fans and is not be taken seriously.

Poor Quality and Confusing Plot
15 March 2009
Being a big fan of Manga, I enjoyed Akira and Ghost in the shell and even the urotsukidoji series but this really isn't recommended. It has a great soundtrack for the opening and end credits but unfortunately, that was the only good thing about it.

The English dubbing was terrible. It sounded like they were having other characters speaking for them. Some characters spoke without their mouths even moving. The voicing on some of the characters made them sound annoying like that stupid of Erika from the second episode making it seem like a kids show. Its isn't however. I'm not sure if it is or not. It can be very scary but the violence are very mild with just some bloodless fighting.

The animation is also quite cheap and hard to understand what is going on. Some drawings last more than one split second. Some shots take a minute to get over while the character in the shot is talking. The futuristic background is very unoriginal. Its a place where we have all been before. I could tell that this world came from ghost in the shell.

The plot was the worst. The matrix (though a great film) was less confusing than this. There is no clear detail of how the virus was spread or what the virus can do other than turn people into monsters. The Cyclops villain was maybe only there for laughs because he was so unnecessary to the plot of all twelve episodes.

Overall this is a weak Manga anime with lack of plot, goofy humour which a complete waste of time. Strictly for kids 10 or over.

Classic anime for adults
14 March 2009
This is a review coming from a true anime fan. I must say that it really is a great film to watch. The animation is done brilliantly and the English dubbing is done realistically.

The characters are all quite likable when they are made to be liked. The villains are very scary and the stone guy at the start, damn i won't want to mess with him. The animated scenery is amazing for the nineties. It really makes the characters stand out.

The plot is very tense and exciting. Its about a young hero who has to protect a girl who has poisonous body which kills any man who sleeps with her from evil and demonic beings. He is assisted by a con-man and faces someone from his past. This does seem pretty similar to other sorts of films but it is still very gripping.

But don't let this cross your mind. It is not a kids cartoon. This is strictly for adults. This is very graphic and the most violent anime since the legendary AKIRA. There is also a rather disturbing rape scene near the start which has definitely earned its 18 rating.

Steven finally putting effort for his fans
5 February 2009
I am a big Steven Seagal fan of his 90s movies but began to loose faith in him after Half Past Dead. That was a very impressive movie which did not deserve a rating of 3.9 out of 10. Plenty of action and humour, plus some great kicks from seagal. After his Straight-to-DVD features, i began to lose faith, his fights looked so fake because he had stunt doubles that looked nothing like him and his voice was dubbed pointlessly.

Then came Renegade Justice (or Urban Justice as US calls it), it was a very decent action flick and made me see that he dozen't need to retire early. The fights were all done by seagal and dubbing was ignored. It was also a fun film to watch and a must-have for all seagal fans. What I mostly love about it is seeing seagal the way we use to know him in the 90s. Just no original plot.

This film that I am talking about is the best seagal film I have ever seen. This is mainly because he isn't the hero in this film. There are no heroes in this film. He is an alcoholic ex-cop with a gambling problem, a huge debt and a neglectful father. It convinced me on what a depressing character he was.

The soundtrack was brilliant. At the start, seeing Seagal shooting in a cemetery while there was emotional music playing in the background made me see the drama in this film. The second scene where seagal and the priest are talking really described his character as not being some "perfect hero" but a more realistic character. These problems that he has is also his fault.

The action was also brilliant as well. There is still mindless violence in this movie but that won't spoil your fun as the fight scenes are still realistic but they are not the reason why this movie is so great. Seagal also shows talent and emotion in his acting which is very rare as he is mostly acting with his fists and guns.

This is the best seagal DVD movie yet. Mainly because it is something a little different than his others and is the most unique out of all of the films he has been in.

Actually not as bad as it sounds
5 February 2009
This isn't a work of art but it is not intended to be. It is a decent horror flick on the creepy side and horror fans would enjoy it if they tried. But i do have to admit it isn't perfect. I'll come to that later.

Lets start with the good. The acting was very decent for a horror slasher. The three actors that played the backpackers all convinced me that they were young and in need of a good time. They also showed fear as they were getting tortured which made me feel how they were feeling. Eli Roth directed the film very well and he does have some talent which shows his passion for horror films and I do have faith that he may become the next George Romero. The storyline did keep me hooked as Paxton was trying to get away from the villains.

Now for the bad, most of the gore scenes were quite unnecessary. They didn't all need to be there and it seemed that it as there just to keep the film in budget. It was a pretty sick film and is not for the kids to watch. The goriest part was the eye gouging part. If you don't mind that part than you will be fine. The film as also split in two half's. The first half was a softcore porno and the second half was a gorefest. The sex scenes were very erotic and the girls were all very sexy but like the gore, not all of them were necessary.

Overall this is a great "bad movie" with some entertaining scenes of gore and erotic sex that twisted minds will love. But beware its not for everyone.

10,000 BC rip off, more like a Jurrasic Park rip off
25 November 2008
This is indeed one of the worst film, I have ever seen. Everything about this film was just so bad.

The first is the obvious. The special effects were just laughable and cheap. The dinosaur in the cover, I take it is the big red dinosaur that escapes his/her own time period and comes in the present. It looks nothing like the dino in the cover. They must have wasted half the budget making the cover. I do have to admit, the cover is very eye catching for such a horrible movie but that isn't part of the movie so it dosen't count.

Its not just the dinosaurs that are madly put together, the way the helicopter moves while trying to stop big red is hilarious because it was so unrealistic. I've seen a remote control helicopter move more realistic that that.

The actors were all terrible. Micheal Gross of all people had the guts to star in crap. His character is very different than the character we all know from Tremors and love. The mad gun veteran Burt Gummer. In here, he is a some pussy scientist. I guess money is money.

The Asylum really have put down their cash-ins by making rip-offs from famous blockbusters.

Overall this is a terrible movie, it is so bad, it is difficult for me to write a proper review. If you need a film with some of the cheapest CGI works ever, see this.

The Romanian Texas Chainsaw Masscare
25 November 2008
This is one of the greatest horror films I have ever watched. Its scary, suspenseful, not too long and brilliantly acted.

The film is about a teacher and her boyfriend being stalked by mysterious beings around the house. The plot is no more than that but as soon you get in with the film, it won't spoil anything. It is enough for an hour and a quarter. I'm glad that this film is short because it keeps the suspense squeeze in. If it was an hour and a half or more, it would lack the suspense and than end up getting rather dull.

As said in the comment title, it is pretty similar to the Texas Chainsaw Masscare. This is because its based on true events centering on bizarre serial killings. Its not too long and not too short to keep up the disturbing chills and it centres in a lonely place. The fact that it takes place in a quiet location where there are only a few people is what make the film so scary and terrifying that the two victims know they won't have others to turn too and are completely alone with these group of violent maniacs.

Overall this is a very suspenseful movie. There is no gore but this dozen't stop the film from being incredibly brutal. The whole reason this film is so creepy is because the suspense takes its time to get to the climax and that is when the mystery is revealed.

Finally another true horror/suspense film. We don't get many of these nowadays so make the most.

Poorly Made but Worth Watching!
23 November 2008
First let me say, this film has everything a horror fan should want in a horror film. Gore, chills, scary monsters, excitement and a high body count. This is indeed the second most goriest horror film of 1985 (Day of the Dead being the most).

The plot is about a girl who received a free ticked for a mysterious stranger in a mask. She also gets one for her friend and then they go to the theatre with other groups of people. One of them wears a mask from a model for a joke but cuts herself and minutes later, she ends up becoming a zombie. Can't say anymore or it would ruin the film.

This isn't a classic but what I liked about it was the fact it wasn't trying to be. It was made especially for the fans of the genre. It became very popular in the horror industry that they decided to make a sequel which I haven't seen yet. I have had troubles finding it. The plot is about a killer theatre which does sound very daft but the entire film is daft.

The gore is extremely high so this is not for the kids or ones with a weak stomach. It is over the top but that won't spoil your fun. I enjoyed the scene where that black girl who wore the mask screamed as her cut was bleeding both blood and green slime. Serves that bitch right for being such a retard. Other gory scene were mostly entertaining for a guy who isn't easily impressed by gorefests. More famous gorefests like Devils rejects and Teeth are ones I just couldn't stand.

Unfortunately, every film has a downside. This film had lots. The acting was terrible. I seen actors in in the Asylum do better than this and the dubbing was awful. It sounded like the cast weren't worried about the situation they were in. But if you won't let that spoil your enjoyment then you will have a whale of a time.

The final part of this review was the final action scene when the final two survivors were on a bike and fighting all of the infected. It was just hilarious to watch and in a way, it was very cool as well.

Overall this is great fun for all true fans of the horror genre but the English dubbing did get in the way. Try not to let it.

Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008 Video)
5/10
lack of quality from the original but still good fun
16 August 2008
OK, this is a straight-to-DVD movie so I wasn't expecting much. But I have to admit this movie was a let-down to the original.

Let me start with a quick review of the original, it knew how to mix horror and comedy together. It is very rare for these two genres to get along together. The vampires looked very scary and the characters were very likable. Overall it was good fun.

This one however does have its moments. Let me start with the positive sides to it. Like the original, it had a great return from the ultimate vampire geek, Edgar Frog (played brilliantly by Corey Fieldman) when he saved Chris from Nicole as a turning vampire. it also had some great scenes of blood and gore as well. I was just glad none of it was CGI unlike in most nowadays B-movies such as Anaconda 3 or Loch Ness Terror.

I saw the guy (can't remember his name) who played Alan Frog was in the cast list. He is in the alternative ending as a vampire but not in the film itself as far I'm concerned. I did prefer the alternative ending to the finished ending because it would have made me and other fans desperate for a Lost Boys 3.

Now the negative sides, it has so less humour than the original. Instead the language, violence and sex is much more graphic and seems to be there in order to cover it up which is a pretty cheap thing to do. I don't want to seem too negative about this movie and put it down because there was still humour, just not enough. Only one character seemed to provide the comedy. Can you guess, Edgar again.

The acting was moderate, Tad Hilgenbrink wasn't that good as Chris. He just seemed like too much of a cheery character. Corey Fieldman was the best actor from the whole film but I guess that was because he has had experience with his character. The rest of the actors were OK but none were Oscar-winning.

The plot was pretty similar to the original. Instead of two brothers, it is a brother and sister. One falls in with a gang of vampires (surfers instead of bikers) and becomes one of them. Other travels to find the head vampire.

Overall, this movie was not worth waiting 21 years for. But it is really there to be enjoyed as well as making a quick buck. So if you are a hardcore fan to the original and planning to go see this one, don't expect too much.

Why do they do this?
14 June 2008
The plot is very simple. Same as 300 with a load of retards and rubbish jokes.

First there was Date and then Epic. Now its Meet The Spartans. Why do they do this? Everyone hated the fist two films. Now they are spoofing 300. Why can't Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer accept the fact their films are bad. They are just wasting their money on these movies. If they keep doing this, then no one will want to see their films.

All they do is take one successful film and turn it into something trashy. Their are barely any laughs in this film. Its just actors acting like they need to visit a mental home. I don't know but they are just not funny. They try too hard.

I am surprised this hasn't won or been nominated for any razzie awards. They definitely deserve it.

Overall this is a terrible film that is not worth any money at all. Watching this film and coming out thinking "wow! I can't believe I have spend £7.00 on this crap," is not a good feeling at all.

If IMDb would allow me, I would give this film 0/10.

The Evil Dead (1981)
10/10
A Gorefest with Imagination
13 June 2008
This film is about evil spirits taking over peoples' bodies and turning them into bloodthirsty zombie-like killers. I decided to see this film because I enjoyed director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. I thought that this would just be some gore fest but judging from most of the positive reviews it got, I became sure that it was going to have some good in it. I was entertained from start to finish.

The first thing I would say is Sam Raimi definitely has some talent. He takes his films very seriously and works very hard for them. this film shows that he can do gory horror films as well as spectacular superhero films.

Its not just gore you get out of this horror film. It is also very chilling. The demons look extremely scary. Also the moving spirit is also quite creepy. Its mostly the way they move, look and talk. Their make-up was done extremely well.

The acting was also very good. Bruce Campbell does the "ash" character very well. The other actors were good in this film as well. Unlike the sequels, there is no comic performances in this film. That in a way is a good thing but the sequels were still great entertaining movies.

Overall The Evil Dead is a fun movie to watch. If you are in the mood for a horror film and you don't have a weak stomach, see this.

unimaginative and very dull sequel
18 January 2008
Micheal Myres survives the explosion and falls unconscious for 1 year. After that he wakes up and again targets his niece.

This was not what I was expecting after seeing Halloween 4. This one ignores the ending of H4 and goes straight to Micheal Myres surviving the explosion. That was one of the things that disappointed me. What I think they should have done was to leave out Micheal Myres maybe until the end and make Jamie the killer.

The acting was OK but it could have been better. Donald Pleasants is still good as the tormented psychiatrist Dr Loomis but not as good as he was in the previous films. He is now a very tired doctor and now just talks non-stop. Danelle Harris reprises her cute role as Jamie Lloyd.

The killings are the worst part. They have been used before and some are not bloody enough. In fact the whole film is like just another excuse to see more murders that have been seen in other Halloween films or other horror icons like Jason Voorhees (not a big fan of his).

The whole plot is slow and nothing different than H4. Micheal is still after his niece, Loomis is trying to stop him. Overall this a very weak sequel to the series that is like watching a H4 remake.

Shooter (I) (2007)
10/10
The best bloody action movie in years
17 January 2008
When I got this film out, I knew I would enjoy it but not as much as I really did. It was a terrific film to watch and enjoy.

This film is about a sniper who loses his best friend while on a shooting mission. A few years later, he is now retired and living in a woodland with his do. Then he is visited by the military to plan an assassination of the president. The shot is fired. Unfortunately he is set up to being the shooter and is hunted by cops everywhere. He must find out why he has been set up and also try and stop the real killers.

The acting wasn't bad. Mark Wahlberg does a great job as a military sniper who takes a dislike to the government. Danny Glover is also good as the colonel who sets up Swagger as the man who tries to kill the president. I didn't think he would be the bad guy after all the good guys he has played like the Lethal Weapon films or the voice of an ant solder in Antz.

The action was the best out of the whole film. The beginning of the film I enjoyed most. The blood help the film become more realistic. Every action fan like me would like a bit of carnage. Trust me the action is non-stop on this film.

Overall Shooter is a terrific film for all true action fans and is like a well acted Steven Segal movie.
