American Gangster (2007)
Great actors and script but story was 10% true. Frank Lucas was violent beast
Denzel and Russell could make Satan seem like he was just
misunderstood.
Frank Lucas in real life was a vicious sociopath who needed to be removed from Harlem as soon as possible.
The actors were amazing but it was sad to see them make Frank Lucas into a human being.
Frank Lucas was great example of power going to the wrong person who couldn't handle the money and to handle the drug as a business
I wish movies producers would explained viewers that what they are watching not a true story.
Movie Hoosier 5% true. So sad as the real story of Indiana high school was a story of success after they hired a recent college graduate who took them to Semi finals the previous year and they were highly ranked high school in Indiana next year they won the state title.
Catch Me if You Can - Frank was a delinquent who emptied his father checking account. Frank Dad never spoke to him again.
Reacher (2022)
Reacher 2 was the worst sequel
Reacher is the ultimate Arch Angel who will wipe out evil and protect the innocent
I rated Season 1 as a 9 they were able to horrible crime of his brother his and Reacher revenge journey was filled with love, hate and redemption. Great job on his transformation.
Season 2 was void of human feelings, love or family.
Reacher love life was grab the dark hair women and throw her on bed and pound on her.
Season 2 revenge scene in the cemetery was the dumbest TV moment ever. Reacher catches the sniper and all he says is oh sorry someone paid me to kill you. Reacher: OK, No problem
Words like lazy and rushed come to mind for Season 2.
Better finale would be everyone jumps out of helicopter and is killed and then Reacher wakes up as it was a dream.
Unfortunately season 2 was a nightmare.
Wake me up when season 3 is done.
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
Great acting movie not based on true story
This movie was made like documentary
Bonnie was a cripple in real life, deformed with hate in her heart for her injuries
Clyde was a simple socially path with revenge on being born
Only wish they shot these sadistic evil character earlier before they murder innocent honest working people.
Watch the movie The Highwaymen for the truth about Bonnie and Clyde
Newspaper made it worse as showing Bonnie as heroes fighting the government that was responsible for the Great Depression.
It reminds of the Goodfellas.
People watched Goodfellas like they were good people.
All of these characters were ruthless evil animals who deserved to die young.
Catch Me If You Can (2002)
This is great as a fictional movie {Not a true story}
This movie is not a true story.
Frank Abagnale is a evil man who hated everyone around him and He stole from his father first. He had no relationsip at all with his dad nor did he attend his father's funeral
I just don't understand why movies are able to promote these movies as true. The worst fake movie was Hoosiers. None of the Hoosiers movie is true.
It is extremely deceptive to have Christopher Walken character in this movie as his father. This is a complete falsehood.
As entertainment this movie is very good movie.
What a waste of our best movie talent to trick the movie audience and make Frank Abagnale as anything but an evil fraud.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
Great acting but this is not Disney movie
This movie reminded me of two other end of life movies like Bucket List and Grand Torino
Great actors carried both movies and the great script and book reminds you of what great movie making is all about.
For older folks like me, it reminds us to be happy to have lived a long life but it is also a curse to see our love ones pass on.
This review is not about spoilers as this is a remake of a recent Swedish movie.
The movie scenary is Americanized for US audience but lots of vague references to Swedish roads and city scenes.
Marianna Trevino deserves an Oscar nomination
Bring tissues with you as this is a journey of a full life and will tug at your heart.
Besides crying clear out your sinuses.
Detroit (2017)
My real life story of Detroit in 1967
My first night I slept in a cast iron bathtub as we listen to the gunfire and sirens throughout
The night of July 23rd. Monday morning it became clear that the Detroit police were overwhelmed and the fire department was under attack.
Monday night I spent the night on the roof of our apartment supplying coffee and sandwiches to the men guarding our home with guns.
Tuesday night, the National Guard were called in without any noticeable change. Scared white soldiers with no training and loaded rifles resulted in black people been shot on sight.
Wednesday, US federal troops rolled down our streets as I ran to greet the tanks and I wore a soldier green cap. What a great day.
Thursday, it was over and it was time to leave Detroit behind.
Unfortunately this movie had none of this fear or terror.
The Little Things (2021)
I had to take a shower after this movie Thank You
This was billed as a crime thriller and that is exactly what you got.
Thank you for being true to the crime thriller movie genre.
Its a great movie iike LA Confidential and the Noir crime films of the 40s and 50s
The TV crime shows are too easy to figure out and TV gives you closure.
Real Life does not have a beginning or end, you just wake up to another day.
FYI : This movie is not for young people, nobody turns into a vampire or zombie in this movie.
This is an adult movie for someone with a brain.
Again, thank you for great crime movie
This is the future of story based movies.
Thank you HBO Max, Apple TV and Netflix
Mank (2020)
Slow movie not for any viewer less than 50 years old
This is an old classic Hollywood movie about making movies.
No character has any redeeming qualities except for Marion Davies.
Very depressing and sad movie you might need to take a shower afterwards.
Unfortunately, the main theme of power and greed consuming our lives perfectly matches our current society
Watching depressing movies during our current economic depression is just a waste of time.
1917 (2019)
A great soldiers story passed thru the ages
The movie shows in greta detail that every solider has the same story. Solider must follow orders and hope to surivive to get home. The only way home is death or victory.
Doesn't matter if its Civil War or the War for Independence.or the Roman Legions
A solider burdened is always heart felt because you know that by following orders your family and love ones may never see you but you keep moving keep walking and keep heading to the finish.
A great script with love and respect to the foot soldier.
Midway (2019)
Great visual movie Very disrespectful to Navy to cast Woody as Chester Nimitz
The movie is a must to see in the theater. What a wild ride to be Dick Best's wing man.
The Pearl Harbor scenes are one for the ages. One word review on this movies visual effects. WOW
It is a very modern adaptation of the story but a warning to the casting director or producer of this movie. Don't ever go into a bar in San Diego and announce you cast this movie.
I know the target audience has no sense of history but they should not have cast a bunch of Hollywood misfits as great American heroes.
Chester Nimitz is on the Mount Rushmore of great American military leaders.
George Washington, William Sherman, Dwight Eisenhower and Chester Nimitz.
Here is a great idea, cast Johnny Depp or James Franco in a biography of John Wayne. The young audience won't know the difference.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The most romantic movie I seen since Love Story
The 30 years friendship of Andy and Red was shown with great emotion and blossomed over time into a life's eternal love.
Red: "I would like to think that Andy fought back against the mothers but he didn't."
Red constant support and gifts to Andy everytime he had sex with another inmate
was so heart warming.
Finally, Red's overwhelming joy when he was freed after 30 years in prison and his only thought was seeing Andy.
Red riding the bus to Mexico: "I was like a child who couldn't hold a thought in his head. I couldn't stop thinking of seeing my friend Andy again and shaking his hand.
Red traveled thousand of miles and the scene where they hug again on the beach then the movies fades to the The End.
What a way to start a lifelong love affair.
Country Music (2019)
NEWS FLASH - Garth Brooks invented country music
Very disappointed in how a 16 hour TV series ran out of time.
George Strait is called KING GEORGE for a reason.
I am warning viewers to not go to the bathroom or else you will miss any mention of George Strait.
Ken Burns usually gets it right for his music specials.
For his Jazz special, he got it right when he spent hours making sure viewers knew that Louis Armstrong was called THE GIFT for a reason. Nobody has ever played the trumpet better.
In Country Music, nobody has represented country music better for over 40 years both as an artist and performer than George Strait
The word legend is over used but when you look at the Mount Rushmore of Country Music George Strait will be etched in stone right next to Hank, and Willie and Johnny Cash.
If you don't believe me just ask Garth Brooks, he would be the first to agree
Rules Don't Apply (2016)
79 year old Beatty as Howard Hughes in his prime. Ruined movie
79 year old Beatty as Howard Hughes in his prime. Ruined movie! Howard
Hughes was the biggest celebrity and biggest stud in the country. He was Errol Flynn and John Wayne mixed into one genius It is arrogant and selfish to think some senior citizen can play the most exciting man in the country.
Maybe we should have 86 year old Clint Eastwood star in a biography of Errol Flynn in his swash buckler prime.
Movies watcher only get a few movies each year not based on comic books so we are very excited to watch a grown up movie.
Unfortunately, this movie did not deliver. I hope Mr Beatty didn't spend all of his Social Security benefits on this movie production
Suicide Squad (2016)
Will Smith delivers the goods again with Suicide Squad
Just like Iron Man and Thor you must have a quality actor portraying the main character and this movie made the right move with Big Will. The story was already known thru the comic books so you need the right people to portray evil and redemption and good. I came out of this movie pumped up and ready to destroy evil. Just like every fantasy character we read about in books and watch in movies. This movie was a great escape. Bad guys putting down even badder guys. This was great to see in 3D and the sound was not over the top. Another great performance was that of Viola Davis, she reminded me of a very evil high school principal Thank you Will Smith for another great ride.
Spy (2015)
McCarthy ranks up there with comedy greats
I remember some of the greatest performances like Richard Pryor in Stir Crazy and Eddie Murphy in the Beverly Hills Cop movies. Once you turn loose these comic legends the viewer can't stop watching them. Melissa McCarthy has that same explosive comic ability. Her ability to ad-lib and response to what she sees in a scene and what someone says to her is amazing. She has a beautiful angel face to go along with that devil like smile and wit is one of the best comedy performances I seen in my 60 years. Thanks to the director for bringing together a great dramatic cast to play off of Melissa's comedy performance. I hope they can come up with more material in the future to maximize her talents.
Get on Up (2014)
This film rediscovered the Godather of Soul
This movie helps you forget his final years when he failed as a man and spent more time in prison than in concert. He influenced every music genre from 1960 to today. Everyone owes James Brown and this movie shows why. He is the King of Funk and Roll. What a genius. Rewatch the BET awards from 2003 when Michael Jackson bows down to the Godfather of Soul. This movie helps you understand the man both good and bad and how the music was already in him. No music group was more polished and sounded better than the James Brown band. I saw him in Detroit in 1972 his sound was electric. Thanks to Mick Jaggar for putting up the money for this film. The actor who played him was right on. James Brown was always on stage and always performing.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Wolf opens the door WIDE for Sodom and Gomorrah
This movie is only for those who sin and sin often Once the devil has visited your heart then you will understand this movie. In addition, this movie is by far the funniest movie I seen this year because when people get high they are hilarious. The Seven Deadly Sins are on full display in this movie. Congratulations for Leonardo and Scorsese for having the courage to show everyone what greed and the world of money has become This movie will make lots of money from the sale of DVD because you need to watch this in private and remember when you were BAD. WARNING This is not a date movie unless you are dating a girl who is a former stripper or hooker.
Jayne Mansfield's Car (2012)
Disrepectful to Mariska Hargitay to name a movie about her dead mother
The movie has nothing to do with Jayne Mansfield or anything to do with the accident. Unfortunately I have to believe that Mariska Hargitay shutters every time she sees the title and has to relive the horrible day her mother died. Mariska does not deserve this type of low class joke Unfortunately, I expect this low class type of joke because this movie is connected with Billy Bob Thornton. Being from Texas I am ashamed that Billy Bob is identified with our great state. Too bad that the distributor or someone with authority did not correct this complete lack of respect in a movie title. Here is a good title for the next Billy Bob movie, John Kennedy's Brains are in my Car.
The Heat (2013)
Melissa McCarthy has best comedic timing since Eddie Murphy
It was great that Hollywood finally found a movie to showcase Melissa talent. Great comedy is about timing. Eddie Murphy in Coming to America or Beverly Hills Cop or Chris Tucker in the Rush Hour series. Their energy makes the scene and their interaction with each character in the movie creates comedy. Melissa dominated each scene and the audience never knew what she was going to say and how she was going to say its. Sandra Bullock plays a great foil in the same way that Inspector Todd or Jackie Chan did in previous movies. Melissa seem to be typecast before maybe because of her weight. She improvise when it was needed and you never could take your eyes off of her. Melissa was AMAZING
Drive (2011)
Movie should have been called the Texas Chainsaw Driver
The movie was not a thriller as it was easy to figure out the movie from the start Ryan Gosling is the good guy and everyone is bad and will be killed with EXTREME prejudice.
This should have been called the Texas Chainsaw Driver Most blood in a movie since Devil Rejects.
I don't understand how this movie was even considered for an Oscar except for sound track.
They misrepresented the fact that Joan from Mad Men was almost invisible in this movie.
I guess all of the big stars were in this movie because the director is a young guy on the rise.
Ryan Gosling is the only thing close to good in this movie.
Avatar (2009)
Brutal
Brutal is a word to describe this movie.
Basically its the re-telling of the American Indian saga when the white man shows up and destroys their way of life. The language they speak in the movie even sounds like Navajo. Its Dances with Wolves and the General Custer battle at Little Big Horn. James Cameron needs to be afraid of legal issues as he stole the entire plot from other movies.
For the first hour of the movie its a sensory delight. Special effects heaven but you then have another 2 hours of heavy handed environment issues and the killing of the native people.
Good luck and don't feel bad if you leave midway through the movie. The special effects are worth a matinée price ticket
