It often happens that idea lures filmmakers and infatuation becomes infection, first they fall in love and then they stumble at the Box Office.
Unlike of the above fact, this movie was big time money spinner of 2010
Seriousness becomes troublesome if we become serious for something which was never intended to be taken as serious. This movie depicts the same problem of having a perfect body yet deprived of soul.
I remember the moments that i cherished watching Game, Fight Club and Seven and then I had Social Network. It's not a bad cinema; its just i never expected this from Fincher. May be the treatment is too realistic that i couldn't find the detailed character build up which is like a must for Docu-Drama genre.
I am amazed as Ficher goes for a Bio-Pic and yet i completely miss out the lead character and not only the protagonist; the support cast of this ensemble cast is just too average. Conviction is to far to be expected, its like a masterpiece of an amateur. I am afraid but yes for me Fincher had simply burnt his hand.
Yes its possible, probably quite genuine to portray this generation to be shallow, selfish, immoral and stupid but i guess keeping it up with celluloid actually creates nonsense. Its hard to get convince the two faced Zuckerberg's character, who is a modern day Gates and yet doesn't know how to give his due to Buffet and Steve Ballmer.
He is intelligent, he is a sinister, he is Business men, no he is a Modern day entrepreneur... if I am not mistaken he is a Graduate and is in the making to be a Post Graduate... but he is smart, Geek, a nerd, a fashion victim who is a Master mind probably i should address him as a Visionary OR should I call him as a Jackass who F@#Ks his own ass by letting everyone knows about his glorious past in a most indecent way.
After watching Anti Trust, like Six years back i still have vivid memories of it. I don't want to compare these two or i would never say that why to have Social Network because we had Anti Trust; film maker will always make TrainSpotting or Requiem of a Dream. We will still have Sin City though we had Pulp Fiction and L A Confidential ..... but what least can be expected is newness, a Different treatment or a new vision .....
Okay if in something to condemn in everything then there is something to accept.
The Thriller treatment to this Docu-drama is a treat to watch, protagonist is not a sham, he looks like a graduate. Screenplay is intriguing; the only saving grace and may be the key factor that this can still be call as a movie. This movie too has its moments, the comparison and online ratting of girls, can't get more nasty than this if one is in a college. The apt of aping cool Google work ethic at workplace is again a nice one and yes court room drama is simply what flaunts Fincher's expertise in his field. Finally I guess its like an Old Wine in a new bottle, with a skimpy packaging and a Labeled as Contemporary.
I will go with 5 out of 10 for this not so great average flick.
