Defying Gravity (2009)
Excellent Show
I am watching this series just now, on sick leave and I was searching for something new to watch. I must say, it is absolutely great show, with depth, and if one watches through it, this show ask some basic fundamental questions, every person should think of, and as him / herself.
But the problem with corporate sociopaths is that they only see the money, and money is in reality shows, and series which basically are stupefied, shallow and fundamentally made in the same clichéd ways.
Thus this show is canceled and so many others that are really crappy are still being made, even thou they should have been canceled after first few parts. I like a Sci-Fi shows, but there are very few out there which are good. Some people compare it with shows like Star Trek, or are hang up on trivial things, which are not even an issue. It is SCI-FI - - and science can be a bit made up. I mean first parts of Star Trek were Sci- Fi, made up and years later they became reality.
So this problem so many smart behinds have, with communication delay. I would think that it is not a plot hole or an issue, because at the time this show is happening, these problems would be solved. "Your argument is invalid". Who knows what other advances we'll make, so bickering about trivial issues just shows that people miss the true depth of this show, the message.
They actually have no "out of the box" thinking, nor they can actually think logically about Sci-Fi issues, ideas and fantasy - - - well sometime in the future - - our reality, even Star Trek is today science fiction - - but who's to say, that years from now, it would not be a reality in some form. We DEFINITELY are not alone - - that's for sure.
I love the characters, their development, script, ideas, the camera work over all I like everything about this show, and I am very critical about "my shows".
10/10 - - definitely
Sherlock (2010)
WTF - - - WTF - - - Utter Failure
This was one of the worst British series I ever saw. Trying to make Sherlock Holmes living in the modern times is a challenge, and if executed properly, it would be a great series.
Unfortunately they missed the mark completely. I can't understand where so much high praise comes from, because the stories are overly complicated, and often they make absolutely no sense. The characters are dull, boring and the worst of them is Holmes. His home on Baker Street, simply does not have the feel of his home, and it is one of the essential parts that define his character.
The tension build up is just non-existent, there is no character development, and the script is also dull. As for Moriarty, the worst choice of an actor to portray his character, he came out more as a paedophile, and not some kind of evil genius criminal.
I gave it a shot, seen all 6 parts of first and second season, but it simply didn't do anything for me. I give it 1/10, simply for the effort.
The Help (2011)
Great Film Making
The Help
I just finished watching this movie - - - I usually do not watch this kind of films. I saw trailers and all I can say is - - - - Exceptional film making.
Casting was perfect, Emma Stone delivers. It was pure pleasure to watch her in this movie. Not to mention all the other of the cast.
The characters were well written, and you really feel for them. Script itself was also very good. The whole movie shows a glimpse in to the world we regular mortals do not know.
I recommend this movie to everyone who like this genre - - - or not. In any case it is well made for people of all tastes - - - - One more thing about Emma Stone - - -
I think that she is underrated actress, and she showed here, that she is mature enough to deliver in tough roles. I am looking forward seeing her future projects. There are too many so called actors who really suck royally - - - One example was that expressionless Kristen Stewart . . .
All in all I give it 10 / 10
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Had potential id did not deliver
Snow white and the Huntsman - - - - I do not post often, but this time I felt I need to - - -
I was surprised by the movie, but still not so much, to say »woow« - - - - The problem I saw here was not so much with the story, or costumography. The casting was for the most part, all wrong, and that ruined a possibly a quite good movie. Charlize Theron is one of my favorite actresses, and she did a great job, with what she had been given to work with.
Chris Hemsworth - - - Great choice for the huntsman
There it ends - - - - I do not follow Kristen Stewart's acting career, for that matter I do not follow any of the careers. - - - - Even less their personal lives, I really do not give one toss about privacy of these people, who chose a profession in which they are supposed to portray certain characters AND emotions.
I of course HAVE NOT seen the Twilight movies, nor I seriously doubt I will ever see them - - - I saw Kristen for the first time in this movie, and I can honestly say, that if this is how she acts, she has definitely missed the calling. There is just something missing in "her" - - - a charisma, an eye catcher - - - Something is just not there - -
Kristin Kreuk would be perfect for the role of Snow White, or Mary Elisabeth Winstead, OR - - - Elisabeth Harnois - - - She has certain innocence within her, certain cuteness, and she actually knows how to act . . . . That guy William - - - They should have killed him at the start of the movie, and work more on the Huntsman and Snow White's romantic side of the story - - - - There was potential, but they wasted it - - primarily with bad casting for the Snow White - - - and script.
Not to mention, that the character of William was something to be desired for - - - Most characters were shallow, and boring actually, his was one of the worst - -
- The rest of the cast did what they could. . . . . Given the Material they had. . . . Music score was nice. I liked the song - Florence + The Machine: "Breath of Life"
Scenery was good - - -
Now one of the biggest failures of the movie, which was supposed to be climatic, was downright a complete WTF - - - Motivational speech just after she wakes up in the castle - - - WTF and once again WTF - - - - It definitely did not motivate - - I mean I'd desert her the moment she'd finish with her speech - - - -
Well it is hard to top William Shakespeare's Henry the V. speech - - - Quote:
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be never so vile. This day shall gentle his condition. And gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhood's cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
But come on, they didn't even try - - - it made absolutely no sense - - - The final battle ( Possible Spoilers )- - - It was illogical, and made no tactical sense - - - ( Dwarfs holding the gatehouse, I mean come on, if one would see gates opening, one would Immediately send troops to retake the gates, OK if you forget that - - what do you do first, when you enter the castle you take the high ground, battlements and the gate house, not fighting in the court yard )
Maybe it is just me, but I notice this kind of things in movies, when there are battles in them - - To name two biggest issues I had with battle - - - Few small details and it would make the whole final scenes much better - - - One could make an epic finale, but they just sided through it - - - Boring actually I give it 5/10 - - -
1 – Costumography
2 – Queen and Huntsman performance
3 – Music Score
4 – Overall fight scenes
5 – Scenery
It had potential - - - but sadly yet again Hollywood delivers what it usually does lately - -
Southland (2009)
What the Bleep with BLEEPS
This had potential - - - - but documentary camera work and shallow cardboard characters is just no comment.
The cast is good, but wasted with this director - - - - I just started watching, I am on second episode now. I read other reviews, so I am still giving it a chance, so far . . . . no go. The Pilot was bland, and edited very badly. The way the storyline was presented, it was all over the BLEEP place . . . But the most annoying thing they could have possibly do . . . is putting these Bleeps in a cop show . . . .
It wanted to come out original - - - - with bleeping it lost all credibility . . . .I think if this will be annoying me to much I will just stop watching it completely . . . . Try to find something else ( Definitely not CSI )
I give it 5 / 10 - - -
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
What in the Hades was THAT
I can not believe, how bad this movie was - - - Script was boring, clichéd, and utterly lazy.
Character development - - - - there was none
Directing - - - the director knows crap about his job
The plot was absolutely predictable, and boring
Acting - - - - The actors are good, but what they had to work with, was utter tripe. Michael Caine - - - one of the best actors in my book - - - Even he was struggling with this movie . . . I guess, even these actors have bills to pay I can't imagine why in the world he decided to do this movie - - - maybe he thought it will be fun.
"Chemistry" between the characters is forced, non existent. There was absolutely no charm in any of them . . .
CGI - - - it is not done properly, the scene at the beginning of the movie, you can see, that it was made with a model of a B206 helicopter, and the angle of a camera, to make it appear as it was real . . . . Today if you can figure out this kind of tricks in the movie, the alarm bells start ringing - - -
I am actually watching the movie now, just after riding the giant bees - - -
The logic behind the island, and it's evolution It is the same as the "holy bible" has - - - - Non existent, explanations are just thrown there, for the sake of it. But come on, they could have thought better logic behind the "science" of the island and evolution.
I understand that in fantasy movies there is no great room for logic, or explanation of certain things, but come on - - - - enough is enough - - - -
All in all - - - avoid this movie - - - I will stop watching it now, cos I can't stand it anymore - - - - it is an utter Tripe - - - - This kind of movies, are the reason I don't pay to see them in the cinema anymore . . . .
Chuck (2007)
One of the best
What can I say - - - - One of the best shows I ever saw. Funny, entertaining, characters are developing through the show more and more. Pure joy to watch it. What makes the show great, is the chemistry between the actors, and the script - - - - -
You could see, from the relaxed acting, that they had fun making this show. One more thing that makes this show great is the music. The choice is great, and you can also feel a bit of taste from Jason Bourne movies - - - - with a hint of music from Tron, and Mr. and Mrs Smith. Great mix of music - - - -
The story flows relaxed, and with to much complicating, there are not many plot holes. Villains are not some kind of card bored clichés, as their characters are developed just as well as those of the good guys. There is nice intriguing relationship between the past and the future. There are nice plot twists, that actually one sometimes could not predict. For example, who is Agent X. They actually made sense. At the end of season for, for Morgan to learn "Kung Fu / becoming an intersect" was - - - well it will take some getting used to it. Maybe the show should have ended with their marriage, but I can understand that they wanted to explore how the show will go for the 5th season.
It was also cute to see an American bus in "Budapest", as I am there twice a month I can for sure say, they do not have this kind of buses. I would like to add also, that in many scenes, where the setting was on some streets . . . . there were no people, at the time, when there should be people around. Nor when they were, they did not react "normally", for example, calling the cops. They could also change magazines in their weapons a bit more often
Most shows pick up from the first to 5 th - 6th season They are OK but always, ALWAYS go south after that. Rarely any show was good for more then 5 – 6 seasons. One of the exceptions is British show "Spooks", or Star Gate SG 1.
Now season finale - - - from all the bad guys, the one last one Quinn, is the worst. I mean the guy really made me angry me off - - - - So we come to one of the best show endings - - - - - Very nice, emotional and the creators managed to avoid the worst cliché's of it
I give it 10 /10, and I am rarely generous when it comes to praising American shows - - - - Cos they are mostly really idiotic, with absolutely no humor or freshness in them. They really hit the jack pot with them.
The Three Musketeers (2011)
One more debacle from Hollywood
I could not give it more then 1 / 10 - - - This is a complete butchery of classic Dumas novels, and previous movies of the same title - - - -
The acting is no comments, somewhat great cast could not save this bad script / directing - - - -
On that note, the acting was so wooden, you could see, that even actors need to pay the bills. There was no heart in it and the worst of them all was Logan Lerman - - - - I mean seeing his arrogant, macho I am all that and blah blah blah BS - - - made me want to get my Beretta from the Barracks armory and shoot the F. . . er - - -
Cos maybe he wanted to be an actor since he was 2 years old, but that don't mean he is any good at it . . . . He was - - - To bad he don't get killed at start. Would make this movie much better, not that it would make a difference, but at least I'd give it 2 / 10 - - - anyway, skip this peace of movie tripe if you value your time - - - -
Arena (2011)
Today's reality
This movie actually shows us, where the future of reality shows will be - - - Already today we have numerous reality shows, and people want more and more - - - - It shows how humanity didn't change - - - even thou we are suppose to be civilized. But if you look around your self, you can see, that most people simply don't give a S%&/$ about fellow human - - - -
The gore and is sickening, it means it is done good. Storyline is predictable, but hey, this is not some kind of deep movie - - - - It is for people that love this kind of gore movies - - - - It is brainless movie, and it is just a movie - - - Thou I am sure, they do organize this kind of fights in the underground - - -
Roman gladiatorial fights just moved in to the basement, and sewers - - - I gave it 7/10 - - - cos, even thou it is not some-kind of exceptional movie making, it is entertaining - - - - to a certain level - - - and it is done well - - - Fights are quite realistic, fighters actually get hurt - - - and it is not SO shallow as one might expect . . . .
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Great WW II Classic 10/10
I give it 10 / 10 - - - I red the book, couple of times, and the movie is just as good. I was reading the comments of the movie and it seems that people are forgetting, about the time, WHEN the movie was made. Second it is a thriller, not a realistic presentation of an actual event. Story is completely fictional, it could have been easily happening during WW I. - - - - I also read one comment that was saying about "I am So In Control" - - - YOU Have to be SO IN CONTORL, on a mission like that - - - No way around it, if you're not you're dead - - - This one was a good one -- - - - I red in one negative review - - - in their lack of special effect realism - - - COME ON it was made in 1968 - - - For that time effects were damn great - - - People are forgetting with such old classics that back then they didn't have CGI, or other cool tricks with which today they are making films ( And still F. . . up - - - This movie was far better then most war movies of today ( Patriot, We Were Soldiers, The Hurt Locker, Green Zone ) Just to list few that really sucked and were so far from realism, and they were pretending that they were all about realism. Story lines were goofed, and had nothing to do with. The two history movies I mentioned were far from "historical Accuracy", they claimed to have. This movie even shows great accuracy in German uniforms, and all the rest of their battle gear This is a great WW II action thriller, made to entertain, story plots are good, and in the book are even better ( But book and a movie are always two different things ) - - - - So stop bashing a good movie, just cos you are used to seeing Hollywood crap they are making today If for you a good movie is "We Were Soldier" well then it shows lack of taste . . . .
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
I like QT Movies but THIS one was TEDIOUS
Just what the hell - - - I mean come on, the plot was predictable, and boring, characters were boring and the only thing I liked about this movie was Diana Kruger ( Not her acting, but her looks ) - - -
This movie HAD potential. Idea was nice, but what came out of it - - - It should have had more action with Bastards in it - - -
Mr. Waltz did a great job, his character was creepy and I loved how he did his Job I sure hope I'll see him in other movies - - -
I would write more here about how I hated the movie, but it would be more of my time wasted on this débâcle
Finally the movie ended as I was writing this review while trying to go through 153 minutes of it.
United 93 (2006)
A joke
This is a typical propaganda movie, nothing else - - - united 93 never even existed, and they had to make a movie, to make the official story more convincing. It is a well known fact, that movies can be strong propaganda tool. Especially when you are trying to make people believe in to something that simply is not true. Allot of movies that are suppose to be telling a story of a true event, still do not follow the true story, but still adjust to the public . . . in this case, the whole movie is simply a drama, made up movie with absolutely no basis in reality . . . .
Critical, and open-minded look at the evidence would make any person with actually using it's brains see that . . . I live in Europe, and I consider my self lucky not to be living in the states. I watched the movie and was laughing actually all through it cos most things shown there have nothing to do with reality - - -I am in the aviation, and know a bit about procedures in these kind of situations - - - What I saw in the movie ( and it is suppose to be a fact ) - - - made me laugh. Of course people with absolutely no idea about aviation and procedures . . . will buy the story, cos it is easier to believe a fairy tale then look the truth in the eyes and say "Yes our government is killing our own people, to promote their own agenda" - - - nobody wants to believe that people that were "elected", simply don't give a MERDE, for common folk. And coming back to the movie, this movie was one more little manoeuvre thought up by people in power, to help them promote their agenda of BS concerning 9/11 - -
Stargate: Atlantis: The Eye (2004)
Comment
All in all, the series is great, the only annoying thing I see in this series is this "Teyla" character, I grant, she knows her way around, but her big mouth, and down right stupidity, caused Shepard's team lots of problems - - - Tactically speaking, and strategically as a soldier, I'd kick her out of my team - - - Her actions right from the start, are more liability then advantage - - - - but what can you expect from a woman in the spec ops team, where clod hard tactical decisions are more important then stupidity of emotions, that can lead to sever long run catastrophe - - - - the best example are her actions at the beginning of the series, in the part "Season 1, Episode 7: Underground" Where she tries to save a doomed man, thus leading to death of the soldier accompanying her, and alerting the whole ship to their presence, as the soldier had to shut that doomed man ( shooting him, leading to their discovery ) - - - - Suffice it to say, to me her character is annoying as hell, but hey every show has to have those too - - - - It is just a comment, not a criticism - - -
Angel (1999)
Great But - - -
Great show - - - but the last season was simply - - - - going down under completely, and the finale was utter crap - - -
I gave it 7 / 10 - - - cos except the end of the show, the last season, everything was great - - -
Well I have to fill more lines here - - - Jet I don't know what to write, one thing for sure, this show is far better from Buffy - - -
There is allot of shows out there, some with nice potential, the problem probably is, with all those shows, that people with absolutely no imagination, or commons sense, meddle in, where they shouldn't and destroy the potential - - -
Andromeda (2000)
Awarage
Let me be brief - - - I am just going through the series ( I am at work, as the rest of the people are at home now through the holidays, and somebody has to watch the skies ) - - - So I got the time to watch Andromeda - - - - After a great concept, the makers of the series completely lost the silver lining by season 3, some parts have absolutely no logic, story-lines are full of holes - - - Captain Hunt became enormously boring, Harper annoying as hell with his yapping, Beca Valentine stays average - - - and the Nitchien characters are unexploited, Trance as interesting as she was, pales completely, it has no logic, characters are not "woven" well together - - - The only one that actually stands out, was Rommy / Andromeda ( Lexa Doing, has talent, I hope her career will flourish ).
The potential for adventure in rebuilding a Commonwealth was great - - - The main threat was - - - - Strange, and boring, and the hidden element of the Commonwealth, well it also had potential, but they simply didn't use it - - - - Sometimes in watching some of the series, or movies with potential, in execution they fail completely. I wonder who approves crap they make, as if people that should be professionals in their work, and have lots of imagination, come out completely talentless ( Speaking of writers, and directors ) - - - - Good script, can work wonders - - - Actors often simply have to work with what they get, so I don't blame the actors for the crap that Andromeda became - - - I am now on the season 5 - - - It feels like pulling teeth with out any pain killers - - - total utter CRAP
Enterprise (2001)
Exelant
Let me first say, that this series is a breath of fresh air. Star trek is a great show, I especially liked Star Trek Voyager more then Star Trek New Generation - - - Enterprise is even better - - - - This show takes us to the beginnings, and it should not be compared to the old Star Trek, cos of it's concept.
Those narrow minded die hard fans, should open their eyes to new concept, and see, that in fact, allot of the old Star Trek was actually boring, and predictable. . . . it was to much in to "perfection of values" - - - Captain Jean Luc Picard - - - was just to perfect for my taste - - - Nobody is so high and mighty on the morals, and the rest of the main characters too - - - In The Enterprise people are not perfect, they have flaws, are innovative, and original - - - They are not "stiff" so to speak - - - And to all die hard fans, get a life, get out of your parent's basement - - - and get a girl - - - All in all - - - Star Trek Voyager, and Enterprise rule - - - - The rest - - - nice relaxing, jet nothing to much in to being exciting and unpredictable - - - -
Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (2004)
Hollywood can hide
In short - - - - The best anti war movie I ever saw. Hollywood might learn something from Chinese, and Korean film production when it comes to making history movies. I have seen many of their movies, and it is refreshing to see, the scale and professionalism, with which they make these movies.
In Hollywood they simply don't know how to make a good war / history movie anymore, especially when they goof up in the most simple things, even thou they are details, but still, they do. It turns me off when it comes to many movies, especially the ones in Roman time era . . .
Suffice it to say, this movie RULES
Only the Brave (2006)
1/10
I gave one, cos of the effort, but that's about it. I seen many movies of war, been in it as well. The story is worth telling. But in the hands of any other director. Acting was pale, action was boring, and flashbacks were just waste of budged money of the movie. I was half way through, and bored out of my mind, I was fast forwarding the movie, hoping to see some action, that simply was not there. This story should be retold, by another more competent director.
It is also not clear, where exactly they are, the only thing that it was told, was that they are saving some other American unit. No historical background, that would put them in the tactical picture, of where they are, what their mission was. As of Germans, we could not see them at all, all we could see, were those "soldiers" firing in to the forest.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Disaster
I am big movie fan, but this was simply waste of money spent for making this "SOMETHING", it could have been spent on something much better, the acting, was bad, the script was worse, and the overall feel of the movie was simply BORING - - - Director failed miserably, especially where there was "conversation, that was suppose to be intense" - - - with those ridiculous close ups, and the end battle, who ever was choreographing that, should stick to His/hers day job - - - it didn't look at all as a battle, but just . . . I cant even find the words . . . . All in all I am glad I didn't spend money on it in the theater, but downloaded it from the net - - - I would avoid this movie in your place at all costs . . . .
Smallville (2001)
Slow pulling of teeth with out the laughing gas, can be compared to Smallville
I'll keep it short . . . . this time 1. Lana Lang - - - Physically, a very hot chick, but as her character develops, what a vainer, cry baby, little spoiled princess, a typical woman, that doesn't know what the hell she wants - - - frankly in real life, I met girls like her, and no matter how good they look, I could not get "excited" even with a help of a "magical blue pill" - - - - Marrying Lex, well, she got what she deserved . . . . her looks pale, as she portrays the Little Princess character 2. Clark Kent - - - a little vainer brat, self righteous, always taking the high moral ground, for no good reason in many cases, he should finally get his head out of his back side, and get down to business . . .
3. Story lines . . . . they could do much better, I red many reviews here about it, and well the makers of the show should read these reviews as guide lines . . . by the season 6 it really pales completely, it is something to watch, if you REALLY don't have anything to do, and you don't want to think to much, while watching the show . . . .
