The Perfect Host : BeatDown Reviews
22 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is creepy as hell. Although it did have moments where I chuckled a bit here and there. I got The Perfect Host on Blu-Ray. I was dying to watch this film ever since I saw the Trailer. So after watching the movie, I can safely say that this is a movie you should watch as it has one of my favorite TV actors playing an evil role. David Hyde Pierce is terrifically evil in his role. You can tell that he is having a blast with his role. As a mentally unstable person with a dark secret. Clayne Crawford is the poor criminal who unfortunately seeks refuge in David's house. The whole movie does not soley take place in the house alone. It does have an interesting twist that I do not want to give away. It will you like a hurricane. Although at time, the film does tend to move at a slow pace. But that does not stop this film from being a thrill to watch. Its lack of music at times does put an eerie tone to the film. The subtle charm of the film keeps you on the edge of your seat for a period of time. You never know what this film is going to do next. The ending does leave questions unanswered, but entertaining nonetheless. Have fun with this film as it does make for a very entertaining Saturday night. With one of the best performances I have seen in a long while. Props to David Hyde Pierce once again for giving me the chills as well as the laughs in perhaps your more famous role Niles Crane from Frasier.

Sliders - TV series : BeatDown Reviews
21 April 2012
Hi guys. Its been quite a while since my last review. And I thought I start my 1st review of the year with a TV series review. I am a huge nerd and as therefore decided to watch this nifty little series. The story is actually one of the more simpler to follow than most Sci-Fi series out there.

As I am writing this, I am currently watching the the very first 2 hr pilot. It is shot in the style of a standard TV-movie. So you get the basic layout. The story is about a genius teen played by one my favorite actors on TV Jerry O'connell. He basically builds a device where he is able to travel between dimensions safely. He is joined by a teacher, a friend who is his crush and a soul singer. As I am watching this I can tell you guys safely by first impressions this show is very well put together. The science behind the story is not hard to follow. With a journey that I can safely say is going to be a blast !!! All the cast members do a wonderful job pulling off their characters. I have now just come to the end of the first episode. Giving me a huge Holy Crap at the end. This only tells me that there are more adventures to be had. The basic jist of the ongoing story is that the group will have to keep going through the portal to other dimensions to get back home. Sliding if you will. This show will be awesome to watch every Saturday night. Yes that's exactly what I'm going to do. Every Saturday night, I am going to knock off a few episodes from this series So yeah , if you are are a fan of sci-fi or a fan of adventure series then you are going to have a great time with this series.

Warning: Spoilers
Alright after my brief hiatus, I am back int the world of B-Action movies and I would like to get this show on the road.

I also would like to say that this movie is not complete trash. There are some appealing moments and some pretty good fight scenes for and action movie enthusiasts. It is unexpected to see quite a bit of familiar faces in this show. It stars todays B-Action heroes, Steve Austin, Micheal Jai White, Darren Shalavi and Kieth Jarradine. There are also some people you would notice if you are a fan of sci-fi, such as Micheal Shanks as a Russian gangster. This movie also stars Michael Eklund and Adrian Holmes.

Honestly speaking, I did not have high hopes for this movie, seeing the opening of the movie was probably showing one the worst depictions of a swat team ever. But of course this movie was meant to be fun and not to be taken seriously.

So the basic premise of this movie is this, "A training exercise for the LAPD SWAT Team goes terribly wrong when they find themselves pitted against two rival gangs while trapped in an abandoned Hangar, armed with nothing but blanks." Thats about it.

Actually there is much more than that. Threre is an item in a briefcase that scared most of the members of the swat team that the bad guys are after. They never really get into the subject of explaining what that item is. The movie leads us to believe that it is a bomb. This in which I already believe it to be pretty smart for the film of such caliber.

The acting is pretty good for what its worth. Steve Austin once again gives his wooden acting a nice little push upwards adding a little humor in the dialog. But the most enjoyable dialog in this film is probably the back and forth insults between the Italian mobster and the Russian gangster. Both insulting each other while trying to get the 'package' The writing is pretty smart for what it is. And the directing is solid if albeit a little disjointed at times. But one thing is for sure, The action scenes are good. The fight scene between White and Shalavi is one to out for even though it is brief.

The ending is has a big twist that even left me dumbfounded and a little confused. But hey it is a well made B- action movie that would suffice for anyone who has nothing to do on a Saturday night.

Warning: Spoilers
Hey guys I'm back and this is my first movie review in a long while. So lets get to it.

This movie is based on a true story.

It is about Ben Campbell(Jim Sturgess) who wants to get into Harvard Medical School but unfortunately he has not enough money to pay his way in. So he resorts to trying to get a scholarship to get into the school. However the dean would only give him the grant only if he could "dazzle" him. Then he meets a professor, Micky Rosa(Kevin Spacey) who sees a gift inside Ben and teaches him a get rich quick scheme. Card Counting. Since he has such a powerful memory he could easily make a quick buck in all the major casinos. But he will soon realize that gambling can quickly turn into an addiction.

The performances in this movie is what it is. Everyone plays their part well. The one that stands out in my opinion is definitely Lawrence Fishburne as the disgruntled head of security. The writing is good throughout. Although there are a little inconsistencies in the movie there is really nothing to really gripe.

And I do have to say that the movie also does in a way ask us to go and card count. That is the truth. Telling us that card counting in the casino is easy. Even though at the end of the movie there is a message not to be addicted to gambling. Its an oxymoron. But don't let these minor hiccups hinder you from a good time at this movie. I definitely recommend this movie.

Death Race 2 (2010 Video)

Beat Down Reviews : Death Race 2
24 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is truly one of the best direct-to-DVD sequels that I have ever saw. It not only clarifies the main story for the first Death Race. But also gives the story over to Frankenstein and how it all began. It also shows that you can make a good straight to DVD action film that both delivers on the story and the action all within a limited budget.

Carl Lucas was just an ordinary get away car driver until his latest job went haywire. He killed a cop and is sent to life imprisonment. There he gets to meet all the characters we saw in the first film. The movie also shows us a twist in the beginning on how death race started. It did not start out as a race thats for sure.

Luke Goss was a perfect choice for the role of Carl Lucas/Frankenstein. He may not have the build of Jason Statham but he sure pass off as a B-action hero. Danny Trejo, Ving Rahmes and Sean Bean all have an important role to play in this film. However some of the acting could use some work.

As far as sensible writing goes , this one does the job it should , setting up the premise for the first film and not sounding stupid at the same time. There are a couple of hit and misses here and there in this film but I am not complaining. It is amusing though.

As for directing wise Roel Reine did a wonderful job at pulling a B-action movie off. I previously followed his work when he directed the gritty Steven Seagal film 'Pistol Whipped' and he pulled that one of with moderate success. He clearly knows what he is doing and knows where to place the cameras to capture every single beautiful shot of destruction the cars cause.

And last but not least the cars. They managed to get back all the original cars from the first film which shows how faithful they are to the film. They know that the fans of the first of the first film want to see some car crushing action. Producers include B-movie master Roger Coreman and the first film's director Paul Anderson.

All in all this may not be the most sensible film, but it sure is one of the best direct-to-DVD action film out there.Kudos to the cast and crew for making a superb prequel to the original. Definitely a buy.

Altered (2006)

Beat Down Reviews : Altered

Warning: Spoilers
Well I have not reviewed a horror film in a while. So I randomly decided to pick out a horror film. And I guess I got this film.

Firstly I was actually surprised by this little film. I was not expecting such a film from such a minuscule budget. This film is very , very, gory . Definitely not for the faint hearted. Tons of f-words and swearing. Perfect for a horror film.

The film is about a group of friends who were apparently abducted by aliens 15 years ago. In which one of their friends died. Now three of the four friends were able to abduct one of the aliens. And they brought it to the fourth friends house, in which his girlfriend is living there also. Now the Aliens are coming back for them and in which the friends cannot trust each other they must figure out a way to survive the night.

So the plot may not have been the best or original , but it manages to work well and plus all the actors were very believable to boot. The story may have been a mixed bag, you know with the "friendships being tested" and " girl caught in the middle" routines but they are surprisingly well done. The director definitely knows what he wants . The camera work manages to make the surroundings look cold and scary. The cinematography also plays a part in this film , making most sets look dark and pitch black. Although I do have one problem with the film and that is the CGI . Maybe it's just me but I really feel that the CGI was just not believable. It almost made me want to laugh during the serious bits of the movie.

But other than that the movie is definitely a good rental on a Saturday night. Good to watch with friends if they want to get the crap scared out of them.

Far Cry (2008)

Beat Down Reviews : Far Cry
1 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Okay this is another one of Uwe Boll's game-to-movies. I am pretty sure you should know what to expect but in this case it is a slight step in the right direction. I know what you are thinking.I am crazy but seriously this film is a slight improvement on all of of his game-to-movie adaptations. However slight,an improvement is an improvement.

The is about a retired special forces soldier Jack Carver(Til Schweiger) who now ferries people on his boat to the sea for sightseeing. However things take a turn for the worst when an aspiring journalist , Valerie Constantine(Emmanuelle Vaugier), decides to hire him to take her to Dr Krieger's(Udo Kier) island. Where he is testing reanimated soldiers to fight at his command. Of course they both are discovered and destruction and mayhem ensue.

The story is of course not too great considering Uwe Boll's making it. There is always a bad thing and a good thing when it comes to a game-to-movie adaptation. In this case it is Far Cry's. First the bad. The convoluted plot is one of the bad points of this film. I mean what kind of government would allow the reanimation of soldiers. Of course again there is that cliché where "they say that they have everything under control but obviously they do not" situation. And now the acting. Til schweiger actually does a decent job at being Jack Carver.Hhe could actually pass of as B-list action hero. However sometimes his accent gets in the way of him feeling like an action hero. And Emmanuelle Vaugier is not really up to her usual standard of acting, lacking any real emotion throughout he film. And the worst actor in this film was probably Chris Coppola. He played Emilio, a cook who is caught in between this whole mess. I am pretty sure he brought in to have some comic relief. But the sad thing is that he is just not funny at all. His jokes come in at all the wrong times. Courtesy of sloppy writing. I if you did not know, he was also in another Uwe Boll movie, Postal , in which he was not funny too. Although that was another good effort by Uwe. He is the kind of guy who tries to be funny but just isn't.

And now the good part of the film. The ACTION !!!! Seriously this was probably the only saving grace in the entire film. The fight scenes were nicely choreographed and the shoot outs were pretty cool too. Even the beginning chase scene was well shot. If Uwe Boll has proved anything is that can direct a B-action movie properly if he wanted. He just has to take the initiative. Although he still has a long way more to go and has to improve a lot more if he want to be famous and not notorious for his directing

Inglorious Basterds : Beat Down Reviews
28 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I was extremely excited about watching this film as it was by Quentin Tarantino . And everyone knows that you cannot go wrong with a Tarantino flick. So without further ado let's get on with the review.

Firstly the main story is about a group of Jewish American Nazi hunters, known as the Basterds . Led by Lieutenant Aldo Rein(Brad Pitt) along with his band of ruthless men played by (Eli Roth) and (Til Schweiger) just to name a few. But the story expands far beyond that. There are quite a few subplots to the movie just take the opening sequence for example.

The writing is one of the many things in this movie that keeps it both fun and suspenseful . The German and French dialogue makes this film a must watch. Added with it the superb directing of Quentin Tarantino . His choice of not using music at some of the scenes was a wise choice. It just adds to the atmosphere. Let's face it . Quentin's vision of the war is the best we have seen yet.

Acting wise, it is brilliant especially Christoph Waltz's as he manages to speak German French and English all while managing to act casual and keeping cool as an evil Nazi. And Brad Pitt's acting is also good but sometimes over the top, but in a good way. Although I must say that Eli Roth was a bit under used. I mean we get to see him for quite a while but he does not have much to say

So all I can say is that Quentin's vision is both daring and terrific at the same time. It's sad that he did not win any awards . Although kudos to Christoph Waltz for excellent performance . His golden globe and academy awards were undoubtebly just and deserving . As his character manages to amaze us and anger us at the same time.

All in all I have to admit that this film is Quentin's best yet. Come to think of it Quentin Tarantino does not make any bad movies at all.

Princess of Mars (2009 Video)

Princess of Mars : Beat Down Reviews
12 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is my third review in the series of Asylum films. This film is undoubtedly the worst Asylum film I have seen so far. Let me tell you why.

First of this film's DVD cover has the tag line "The classic story that inspired James Cameron's Avatar." I think you can tell what film they are trying to use to market this film.

So anyway the story is about a soldier who meets an almost fatal end. But before he dies, his commanding officer sends him to Mars. Not the Mars that we have come to know of today but a different type of Mars where he can rest and recuperate. Inevitably he lands in the middle of a war on the planet and instead has to find a way to put an end to this war. Oh and there is a princess thrown in just for fun.

Lets start with whats good about this film. The CGI is the only thing that does not suck that much.

Now the bad part. Where do I begin. OK firstly the character that Antonio Sabato Jr plays is just plain boring, half the time his acting is just plain stiff. I was dying for just a hint of decent action. Even the fight sequences is boring. Then there's the princess played by former porn star Traci Lords. Her acting is probably the worst among all the actors.

As a matter of fact the whole movie was boring and lame with the same cheesy lines you know of.The writing is just stupid and clumsy. With no thought of anything original to write about. And as for the directing I seriously think that the director has not the slightest clue on where the camera should be placed.

Give this damn film a pass, believe me you will not be missing anything out if you skip this film.

My next Asylum review will be on the film "I am Omega".

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus : Beat Down Reviews
9 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Alwright this is my second review of an Asylum film. So I have stated before Asylum makes one of the worst movie on the face of the earth. Well that was in the past now well I have to admit that they have made an improvement over the years. Which leads us to "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus" another cheesy movie but this time it is not a rip-off of a movie it is an official movie from the Asylum which premiered on the SyFy channel once again.

So the plot is about 2 massive beasts which are said to be extinct but have actually frozen in time now are set loose onto the earth and it is up to a small team of scientist to find a way to stop the 2 creatures from destroying the city.

Yes the plot is that thin once again.

So obviously this movie is not to be taken seriously and it is meant to be a cheesy sci-fi film to be enjoyed on a Saturday night.

The acting is stiff and at sometimes just plain bad. The writing is nothing new its cheesy lines delivered by Lorenzo Lamas. The film was also short on suspense with you knowing what was going to happen next. The acting is decent enough. But the real improvement here is the CGI. Of course it is still cheap because of the company's budget. But it it actually looks eye pleasing for once. Asylum's CGI has indeed come far from its crappy "Transmorphers" years.

Actually I also did some research online about this film and it turns out the films trailer became a viral hit and actually had people pre-ordering the DVD.

And by the way there is a sequel coming out on 21st December 2010 called "Megashark vs Crocosaurus" yes another schlocky movie once again.

So I give this film a 6/10 for its improvement in the CGI department. Watch out for my next review on another Asylum film "Princess of Mars".

Mega Piranha (2010 TV Movie)
5/10
Mega Piranha : Beat Down Reviews
2 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review on a budget movie title. I had to look carefully at which piece of garbage I had to watch first. Which brings me to this film . I which case of course is a cheesy rip off of the up coming film Piranha 3D. You probably know that the people who made this film also made crap films such as Transmorphers, Snakes on a train and The Terminators to name a few. This company is well supported by the SyFy channel who are also well known for their brilliant sci-fi TV series but notorious for their horrible TV movies.

Then again thats not to say that they do not try their best. They are always working with tight budgets so we really cannot expect their CGI to be as good as Transformers.

Without further ado lets move on to the story.

The movie is about a large group of mutated piranha attacking the coast. So it is up to a group of scientists led by Sarah Monroe(played by 80s star Tiffany) and special agent Jason Fitch(Paul Logan) to stop these monsters.

Yes that is really the main plot. There is also a sub-plot involving the Veneuzuelan army trying to arrest them for causing this out break of piranhas in the first place.

First off the acting. It is pretty OK although some of the acting is just plain dry.

Not to mention that the writing is pretty cheesy and sometimes just funny. Now this will automatically turn off most mainstream critics.

The directing was OK I mean for a budget title. It seemed the director knew what he was doing.

And finally the CGI. Yes it is trash. But on the good side it is actually an improvement over past Asylum movies. The blood is fake. The death scenes are hilarious. And it is always good to see the bad guy die.

Just remember before going to watch a movie like this you must have the right attitude and you will probably have a good time.

Look out for my next review on the next Asylum film 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus'.

Due Date (2010)

Due Date : Beat Down Reviews
6 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Lets start off by saying that this film is in no way comparable to 'The Hangover'. Because it just would not be right to compare these two together just because they have the same director. With that out of the way lets get on with the review.

The film is about Peter Highman(Robert Downey Jr) who is a father to be and has to travel back to Los Angeles to be with his wife. At the airport he switches bags with a wannabe actor Ethan Tremblay(Zachary Galifianakis) which turns out contains weed. When Peter gets put on the no fly list he gets stuck with Ethan who is heading to the same place as Peter and since Peter's luggage was on the plane when he left he has no money. Ethan soon offers Peter a ride with him and before you know it they leading us on and adventure with laughs and mayhem.

The story of this film is a pretty decent film if you just want to sit back and laugh. Storywise it is exciting enough. The two characters are an uncanny duo and thats what brings the laughter out in me is because they are mismatched. Writing was good with a bit of drama showing Peters childhood life and Ethan's father's ashes being one of the few main things circling around in this movie. This by no means was the directors best effort. I still liked 'The Hangover' slightly more as this film had slightly less laughs than the one before.

So overall I give this film a 7/10 for being repetitive and at the same time having laughs with a pug being thrown in for cuteness.

The Losers (I) (2010)
8/10
The Losers : Beat Down Reviews
2 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Okay people, we have another contender in this series of films. You know tough guy teams type of movie. The Losers can definitely be a contender against The A-Team. Both have the regular story about a team of specialists who get screwed over by the people they are working for. Yes I know its a cliché but come on. Any one who goes to see a movie like this will know what to expect.Guns Blazing and explosions with a hot babe, is there anything more you want.

Alright now story wise like I have just explained earlier that its a cliché. Nothing new in that area. But decent acting and pretty good writing is probably what brings this movie together. The leader of this team is 'Clay'(Jeferrey Dean Morgan) he holds this team together and will do whatever it takes to take care of his men. 'Roque'(Idris Elba) is probably the teams second in command. He loves knives as you will see in the movie and has a bit of a weird side to him. Then comes 'Pooch'(Columbus Short), he is the teams driver. He also has a kid on the way and has doubts on whether or not to carry on this revenge mission. 'Jake'(Chris Evans) is the teams coms expert and a womanizer. And finally there's 'Cougar'(Oscar Jaenada) the teams sniper and recon scout.

Along the way they encounter the hottie of the movie 'Aisha'(Zoe Saldana). Who turns is more than what she say she is. Then of course the main villain 'Max'Jason Patric) is the one who wanted the team dead.

Okay so overall the movie is your average summer action movie. This movie has a few surprising twists here and there and that is what makes me believe that this movie is slightly better than The A-Team. Because no matter how much fun The A-Team was, it was still too unrealistic.

Although one complaint I have about this movie was that actor Oscar Jaenada was pretty underused. I think he only had half a page worth of line for the whole movie. Although the funny bit in the movie really helped me forget about that.

So I give The Losers an 8/10 as this film hits a bit more spots as a summer action film

The A-Team (2010)

The A-Team :Beat Down Reviews
1 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First off, before reviewing this movie I would like to say that this is my return to movie reviewing. Its been a while so lets not waste any more time.

This movie is pure fun and action packed. Any mainstream critic will definitely have quite a few negative comments on this movie. You must not take this film too seriously if you want to enjoy it. Because everything that this group of people do is totally unrealistic. But there in lies the fun.

Lets go on to the story. Its about a group of professional who would give their lives for their country. Their leader 'Hannibal'Smith(Liam Neeson) is the smartest one of them all he can plan ahead on whatever his team are going to do. His second in command 'Faceman'Peck(Bradley Cooper) is a playboy but when it comes to his job he takes it pretty seriously and can probably think as well as 'Hannibal'. He of course throws in a couple of jokes from time to time. Then there's B.A Baraccus(Quintin Jackson) the tough guy in the team. He may look tough but he actually has a fear in flying no thanks to the last member of the team. 'Howling Mad'Murdock(Sharlto Copely). He is he crazy one in the team and pilot. Then they are set after just completing a mission and now they have to find the ones responsible and find out why them.

So the story is a little cliché but that does not matter You could still have fun while watching this.

The casting was pretty good as all of the characters fit nicely into the past characters in the old TV show.

However, the only thing I did not like about that movie is because they did not really go into character development. All the did was have a brief intro to the characters in the movie.

Their lines are pretty funny and the writing is just above par. With twists here and there . Its expected for a movie like this.

So I give this film a 7/10. On how much fun one can have making a movie

Tekken (2010)
7/10
Tekken : BeatDown Reviews
25 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start off by saying that Tekken is one of the greatest fighting games of all time. And even though I myself am a big fan of the game,I will not be reviewing on whether or not the game is as good as the movie. To be honest, I was praying while watching the trailer that this game-to-movie will not become a failure like the rest of the game-to-movie failures like Mortal Kombat:Annialation and Dragon Ball Evolution to name a few. But my prayers were answered and this film was actually pretty good.

Okay the story is set in a dystopian future of the year 2037. Different companies split up to govern the now partially destroyed world. The Tekken corporation being the most powerful. It is being run by,you guessed it,Heihachi Mishima. He and his son Kazuya Mishima hold a competition every year called ,you guessed it again, The King of Iron Fist Tournament. Jin Kazama, a rebellious teenage street fighter and contraband runner, witnessed the death of his mother, Jun, during Tekken's crackdown on insurgents in Tekken City's slum area referred to as the Anvil. Fueled with rage , he decides to join an open call fight to enter the tournament to avenge his mother. That is just the start of this nicely written movie. There are definitely a few twists in this movie and you should be satisfied if you are not too much of a Tekken fanatic. There will be people saying that this film sucks and whatnot. But they compare too much of this film to the game.

Now on to the characters.

Jon Foo plays Jin the main protagonist of the film. And surprisingly, being his first major film role, he can act decently.Oh and another thing , each of the fighters look almost or exactly like the games characters, which in my opinion, adds to the feel of the movie. with the exception of Kazuya's look which does not resemble the game's Kazuya at all. You'll know what I mean once you have seen this film.

Another reason what makes this film so much like the game is that the stages designed in the film is reminiscent to the ones in the game.

Fight choreography is pretty good in my opinion. Its not the best out there but it sure feels good to know that each fighter has their own set of skills.

Overall this is one of the better made game-to-movies out there. I give it a 7 for decent story good fight scenes, great make up but they could have put in a few more characters.I really suggest you giving this film at least a rental

Cop Out (2010)

Cop Out : BeatDown Reviews
10 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Do you want to know the reason why some people did not like this movie? I'll tell you why. They take this movie too seriously. I mean yeah there are some problems in the movie but then again, nothings perfect.I watched this film and within 10 mins into the movie, I was laughing my butt off. I believe that more people will enjoy this film if they just relax and unwind while watching this film, and to not take it so seriously.

The story is about two cops Jimmy Monroe(Bruce Willis) and Paul Hodgens(Tracy Morgan). Jimmy has to pay for his daughters wedding in order to not look like a fool in front of his ex-wife's new husband Roy(Jason Lee) who is much richer than him. So he decides to sell off his prized possession, a 1952 Andy Pafko card. However, Jimmy was robbed halfway through the transaction by Dave(Sean William Scott). Now he and his partner have to go across the city causing mayhem an violence just to find his card.

Now I bought this film on DVD so there are special features . Just deleted scenes. This film may have a clichéd storyline but it has great lines to make you laugh out loud and Kevin smith does a pretty good job at directing the duo. Although not his best, surely one of the funniest. Bruce and Tracy just have excellent chemistry and that is also what makes this movie shine.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice: BeatDown Reviews
24 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Okay , I will say that this movie pretty good and the CGI in this film is nothing but impressive.

This movie is about a sorcerer named Blathzar Blake(Nicholas Cage) who is one of the apprentice of the great Merlin who is betrayed by his best friend Horvath(Alfred Molina) and he has to find the next Prime Merlinia(which is a longer term for the next Merlin) to defeat Morgana LeFay, enemy of Merlin who kills Merlin at the start of the movie. That was along sentence wasn't it. Anyway, Blathazar Blake manages to trap Morgana in a nesting doll known as the Grimhold. But not before losing his love interest Veronica(Monica Belucci) as she sacrificed herself to save Blake and give him a chance to trap Morgana at the same time trapping Veronica as well sealing the doll forever.

Okay that's enough spoilers. Now for the review! First of all, I thought this film was pretty good. The story is god the cast is good and the CGI is .... you guessed it, good! Nicholas cage delivers a SPELLBINDING performance if I do say so myself. I mean his depiction of a thousand year old wizard is spectacular. His Witty and casual remarks are the main laughters in this film. Jay also does decent performance as he slowly rises to stardom.

Although Monica's character was not that interesting at all. I believe it was there to act as a love interest only.

Now the only few criticisms I have for this film is that the line are a bit clichéd and expected. Trust me, you'll know what I am talking about once you've seen the film. This film had so much potential if they only had a better script.

So I am going to give this film a 7 as it displays a good story and great casting but it is the script that pulls it down

Predators: BeatDown Reviews

Warning: Spoilers
Okay I am going to start off this review by saying that this film is by far the best monster movie I have seen in a long time. Yes I have been a Predator fan for many years now and the crossovers between the Predator and Alien movies were just crap. Yes I do think the Alien movies were very intriguing but I am just a bigger fan of the Predators. Firstly, this film is not a remake or a reboot of the franchise but a sequel to the first and second film. Secondly, Robert Rodriguez was the producer of this film which means it is definitely going to be gory. And thankfully it is.

The film starts off by showing us Royce(Adrien Brody)a mercenary falling from the sky while waking up. He manages to pen up his chute in time before crashing into the alien jungle.

He soon meets up with several other characters Isabelle(Alice Braga) a black ops sniper,Cuchillio(Danny Trejo) a drug cartel enforcer,Edwin(Topher Grace) a surgeon,Mombasa(Mahershalalhashbaz Ali) a death squad officer,Nikolai(Oleg Taktarov) a Russian commando,Stans(Water Goggins) a deadly death row inmate and Hanzo(Louis Ozawa Changchien)a yakuza assassin.

Soon the survivors find that the are being stalked by the Predators and have to find a way to defeat them and staying alive while doing so.I will stop spoiling the story hear as you will just have to watch the movie to find out what happens next.

Okay story wise it is actually very fresh and I have not thought off an idea like this before. The idea of having the Predators having a planet where they drop the best killers on earth on their planet where they hunt for fun is actually very exciting to see come alive on the big screen. The cast is just brilliant and acting is pretty darn good. Adrien Brody packed on 25 pounds of muscle for his role. This just shows you how committed he was to his film.

The director Nimrod Antal(he also directed Vacancy and Armoured) is just brilliant. He knows what he is doing when he is directing the cast. The locations were shot on Hawaii and Robert Rodriguez's very own Trouble Makers Studio so he could have creative control over the film.

Now lets move on to the Predators. The have added three new types Predators to the movie. The Black-super-Predator/JawBone Predator,Falconer Predator and the Flusher Predator. They have also brought back the "original" Predator from the first film. I loved the new masks on the predators and their names really come from what they do. You'll know what I mean once you watch the film.

Well that about wraps up this movie review, I give it an 8/10 for good acting, directing and a great new chapter in the Predator franchise.

Urban Justice (2007 Video)

Urban Justice Review : BeatDown reviews

Warning: Spoilers
First of all I am going to say that Steven Seagal is one of my favorite action stars of all time. Yes,his ability to act can be questioned .But because of his lightning fast hands, and his ability to never run out of one liners is what makes him an action star.

Okay lets get on to the movie. The story is simple : Seagal plays Simon Ballister. An ex-special forces who has a son who is in the police force. His son then gets killed in a gang shootout. Now it is up to Ballister to find out who did this to his son and why.

Firstly the good points about the film. I am not going to spoil anything for you only that you should at least give this film a rental if you are not a die hard Seagal fan. The directing is pretty decent by a one DonE.Fauntleroy(who also directed Anaconda 3:Offspring).Seagal has a few funny one liners in this film like " I'm starting to get scared...,I'm starting to get scared ! Come on rob me!".

The action scenes in this film are short but pretty decent in a Seagal flick. The fight scenes are decently choreographed and fans of Seagal will not be disappointed as he kicks ass a lot in this film.

Now on to the bad points. There is one car chase scene n which it pretty long to me. And it seemed that Seagal is the only one who hits the bad guy's car all the time. And the worst thing is that these two bad guys are armed with a pistol and an SMG. while Seagal is only armed with his signature pistol in almost every film. They manage to miss almost every shot they fire at Seagal. Also the CG in the driving scenes were too fake for me. Although I cant really blame them on this topic as the are filming on a tight budget.

Other than that, thats all I can say for this film and I give it a 7/10 for it is one of Seagal's better Direct-to-DVD films out there, than a few of his failed B-movies like Attack Force and Against the dark
