Geostorm (2017)
Gerard Butler flying to space
16 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!*

This movie will inspire many generations to come!

Maybe I am totally wrong, as I did skip few minutes every now and then, but this movie is insane. You have the UN, Gerard butler as a genius scientist, his son, conspiracy, Gerard butler living in the truck n trailer and few skipped minutes later being launched into space in a rocket (one of the many dozens to be launched), some guy freezing to the point where the his hand simply detaches from the body on the touch, guy driving Smart being chased by the giant crack in the ground as a result of lava or something and many more!

All of this in first 25 minutes!

God knows what waits at the end of the movie, maybe I'll finish another time and edit this review.

There we go again
21 December 2015
I'm rating it 7 just because it was fun to watch the movie for the first hour or so. Otherwise I'd go for 5-6.

This is my humble opinion only, as it over and over again proves my theory about the movies nowadays... The film industry today depends on remakes, prequels and sequels, comic adaptations and mindless creations made to make money, depending on marketing and special effects.

The new Star Wars is unfortunately the part of that.

It looks great, special effects and atmosphere are great. Specially atmosphere, gives you a real Star Wars feeling.

On the other hand story is not that bad, but something chewed up hundreds of times before and predictable. Acting is OK, but OK only. Casting...oh my...Kylo Ren? I don't have anything against anyone, but Adam Driver would better suit Harry Potter movie with his appearance.

Way how the characters are elaborated is not on a level that class such as Star Wars should have. Kylo Ren again? I mean Sith Lord who will have a nervous breakdown and destroy half of the room just because something went wrong? He should be calm and cool no matter what if you ask me. Sacrificing his "sith" just to make someone laugh?

The #1 bad guy is named Snoke? Maybe Harry Potter movie set runaway again?

And I just can't believe that episode 1 and 2 have 6.something rating while this has almost 9?? Marketing...

But again, if you are looking for fun packed with special effects and bunch of action... this will indeed be a good pick to spend an evening with!

Meeting
20 December 2015
Honestly I would describe this show as something like: "Twin Peaks meets the Village meets Once upon a time meets I am legend meets Back to the future".

This show is one big rip off, but it still is interesting, exciting and makes you wanna see the next episode. How do they manage to do that? Well...there is something happening in the show all the time making you focus on the show. The plot is a bit shallow which helps the viewer to keep the mind switched off and just watch.

In any case the show is a good way to spend a winter day covered with blanket and go through few episodes.

nothing more to say in here, watch it and I think you will have a good show to spend your time on.

No go for me
29 October 2014
hm....

well, what to say, I even don't know why I gave it 4 since it deserves more of a 3.

Fincher is a good and well respected director, thats for sure, but I don't think he needed this.

I'll try to be as brief as possible in this review, so here it goes: - horrible acting, and I do mean horrible - moronic excuse for dialogs - poor soundtrack - story without much sense and logic in it, or maybe better without it

I managed to fall asleep in the cinema, the movie looked like a bunch of scenes random scenes stitched together with a glue, filmed only to fill the runtime of the movie. The whole story could be fitted into 45 minutes if you ask me.

At the end, I really can't understand why did this movie got so much praises, just because it was made by Fincher?

advice: if you skip this movie, you won't make a mistake.

That's a pity...
19 May 2014
New Godzilla, with a flashy trailer, awesome music playing, WOW I thought!

So I went to cinema and left it disappointed...

Why? Well, for who knows which time I have proved myself that so many movies nowadays are: a.) filmed only for profit b.) because of point a. - they rely only on special effects c.) no story whatsoever

The movie had so much mistakes and situations that are all but logical...

Oh yeah, did I mention Godzilla from 1998 looks waaaay better than 2014 version?

Charting the human mind
23 January 2012
Darren Aronofsky did another of his masterpieces here. I would say that he managed to get as closest as possible to the golden ration in the movie art, with this movie.

This movie dissects human mind in the way I haven't seen in the movie before. The story is about the young and promising ballet dancer, a girl that is obsessed with success, perfection and that does her best to become flawless in her profession. She lives with her mother, which has huge influence in her life, way of thinking, and her behavior. She represents a parent which tries to do what she thinks it's best for her child. Was she successful in it? - You should watch to movie and decide.

The atmosphere in the movie is something special. Dark, realistic, slow, sticky, hopeless in the moments, scary sometimes, cold... I would compare it to the atmosphere of the movie "Pi". Music is great and fits the atmosphere.

Acting is at the highest level possible! The effort made by Natalie Portman, to pick up all the ballet moves, is magnificent. It seems like she was able to act and impersonate everything that Aronofsky wanted her to, in a way that is fabulous. All of the twists, thoughts, breakdowns, paranoia, and whole specter of feelings that her character have were impersonated flawlessly. Mila Kunis, cute as always, did a fabulous job also. Same as Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder as an ex ballet star.

This movie that manages to penetrate the mind of someone who is scared and ignorant about the world that surrounds her, is something that shouldn't be missed.

Enjoy the movie!

Touching...
10 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Could have one spoiler!

Fantastic movie. Haven't seen such a good acting for some time now, Gosling really is a star, and Michelle Williams was fabulous also!

I wouldn't say that this is a story just about love and relationship, but about humans, their nature and perspectives they have on life in general, love is only being used as a medium to show them in a best possible way. Specter of human emotions is shown in best possible manner in Blue Valentine.

This is a story of two young people that meet in their early age, each of them with their personal problems and situations. One of them fell in love with the second, love on the first sight, while the other stayed at distance. At the end they ended up together and got married. One of them changed its perspective and life path, and the other went into the relationship as a result of problems that were present in the life at the moment. That decision was one of the causes of all the problems in their future life, while other was a bit manipulative personality of the character impersonated by Gosling. On the other hand Gosling's character is a perfect husband and dad to their kid. The story jumps to the past every now and then, showing pieces of the story that matter at the moment, or just to help getting on dramaturgy of the situation. Whole movie and story behind it are really realistic, a situation that is happening to the couples on daily bases. It shows how humans are imperfect creatures, but all that "flaws" give them the right and the beauty to be humans, and live their life.

This is a great movie that I would strongly recommend!

European Cinematography Jewel!
3 July 2011
I didn't have any expectations towards this movie, and probably it made it so good for me. Plus great setting in which I saw it, on a small film festival, outside during the cold night.

Great acting, amazing atmosphere, fair story, good camera, intensive, great scare factor! The story is a bit usual and stereotype, but it doesn't affect how good this movie is. Karen is very scary, reminded me on Reagan from the Exorcist!

In short it is the story of a family with problems, which moves to a new house in which they start to experience weird and paranormal things.

I would highly recommend it!

Why, oh why??
6 June 2011
So, another X-MEN movie, thought I. Why not, loved all the ones before, so I won't make mistake paying a ticket to see it.

Since I did a mistake after all, let's share it:

First thing - the movie is long, tooooo long! This wouldn't be a problem if the movie was something worth watching. This leads us to the second thing (or better make it thingS)...

Visually poor, looking cheap (Banshee's little dress with "wings" anyone?!, Magneto's helmet at the end of the movie?!), boring, lame acting, childish, naive, soundtrack sucks, lacks smart and witty humour, lack of idea, McAvoy as Xavier -NO, the list goes on. In short - not something one would expect from an X-MEN movie.

At the other hand Michael Fassbender has made a great role, Kevin Bacon is cool as he always is, Rose Byrne is cute and did a good job as CIA agent, Zoe Kravitz had a first role in major movie and it is a good thing for her career. Well, that is all...

At the end, maybe I was subjective a bit, since I expected much more from the director of one of my favourite movies - Stardust!

Holy cr*p!
24 May 2011
Honestly I haven't expected this movie to be good, 5-6/10 maybe. But in combination with good acting, story and visual effects – could be a good choice to kill the Sunday afternoon.

Was it?

  • NO!

Why? Acting is poor. Story is so shallow and boring. They stole the idea from Equilibrium. Cam Gigandet is so annoying with his acting and childish questions all of the time. The movie simply can't make you watch it for 15 minutes without thinking: "WTF?" or laughing. Paul Bettany wasn't enough to raise the quality of the movie. Unfortunately...

Positive sides. Visually really nice! Paul Bettany, sometimes. Good 3D.

At the end, I haven't rated it 2 only because Paul Bettany appeared in the movie, and because of the overall visual appearance.

Revenge is a dish best served cold!
23 May 2011
Well where to start…

Another exquisite piece of cinematography from Asia, once again proving that Asians can make more than horror movies. Story starts in wonderful winter night, relaxing and easy, but with well know feeling which accompany you from the beginning saying: "Something will go wrong in here". With rather long runtime of 141 minutes, I expected the story which will unwrap slowly, with action now and then, and plenty of scenes "important for the story". Because of that I ignored that "well known feeling", story and wonderful winterish night tucked me in and I prepared for the long and rather slow movie. I was so wrong! After only few minutes the "well known feeling" just takes you and harshly plucks you out of the condition you fell into. And I really mean after few minutes! Something starts to happen, the story starts to build, and from that point on the journey begins and holds you for whole 135 minutes of the movie left! All the time there is something new, some action, something that holds you tense and in expectation what will happen next. I started asking myself "Why he didn't do that instead of that?" and similar questions . Main topic of the movie is almost traditional for Asian cinematography – revenge!

The movie is enhanced with PERFECT soundtrack in the background which really raises the overall atmosphere, and just fits the situations and atmosphere. Honestly I haven't heard such a good soundtrack long, long time! It is really on the world-class level.

I deliberately didn't mention Mr. Min-Sik Choi, who should be renamed only for this movie into Mean-Sick Choi! What a performance! He impersonated a cruel psychopath so flawlessly, this role really fits his face and physical appearance. Well done! I would even say – better that Oldboy.

You should expect a great movie which will make you think: "What would I do in that situation? Is it possible that wrong can be right in some situations?". This movie is a must for everyone who knows and respects the value of Asian cinematography. Same for everyone else who like the good and quality movie and wants to move away from boring and monotonous films that are recorded in huge numbers this days.

Oh, and of course – there is a need to have a bit stronger stomach to see this movie.

Enjoy!

Lets go to sleep.....not!
2 May 2011
I just ended watching this movie, and I would split it in two parts.

1. From the beginning of the movie to last 20 minutes or so. Awesome, bone chilling, creepy, tense, unexpected, bone chilling again, amazing! Acting is great, music fits perfectly and reminds on old school horror and thriller movies (why there aren't more movies that use violin to create scary atmosphere?!). In one word little masterpiece filmed with rather small budged (congratulations Mr. Wan and crew!). In this part of the movie I decided to write the review, just to prolong the time to go to sleep.

2. Last 20 minutes or so... In here all went down the drain, atmosphere and tensions that were so carefully built were ruined, or at least I felt like that. There are too much scenes and happenings which are unnecessary, and scary factor went away. But never mind, first part compensated it all.

Seems that I don't need to prolong my sleeping time after all... Good night and enjoy one great and scary movie after all!

Blood, Sex and Fantasy!
20 April 2011
First thing, I am a HUGE fan of George R.R. Martin books, specially the Songs of Ice and Fire novels.

I was so happy when I heard that this novels will be filmed and released as a show. Enormous plus was the fact that it will be filmed in HBO production, which is in my opinion, the absolute leader in the field of filming shows and series.

Last week I saw first 14 minutes of the show on official HBO website, and.... shivers went up and down my spine of shear excitement!

Finally the day to see the first episode was here. And here were the expectations, so much of them. And that probably is the thing that almost ruined everything for me... First 14 minutes that I saw earlier were so tense, realistic and even scary! Everything was as I imagined while reading the book! Characters were on a highest level, setting was awesome, the winter was coming! I was thrilled! And expectations increased accordingly... After that moment something happened and my overall experience with the episode went down the hill. I found some of the acting a bit weird, music didn't fit all of the time and sometimes annoyed me. Interiors were too artificial and, again, didn't fit my expectations. Everything happened too fast, which is logical since the information in the book are massive and it would be hard to fit them all into the series, but I could notice that, and that is more than enough to give me the reason to think is it possible that one of largest and most beautiful fantasy books ever are too complicated and complex to film a series about them.

After the first episode I can only say: Peter Dinkleage and Sean Bean are awesome as usual! The episode followed the book in best possible manner (even though too fast), characters and locations are just as you could imagine them while reading the book. The plot is is intriguing and will pin down to the chair everyone that haven't read the book. Of course, there is plenty of sex, violence and blood for everyone that expect that from HBO.

Even though I think that there are flaws, The Game of Thrones episode 1 deserves enough of viewers attention to watch it once again before the second episode, just to give it a shot and I think it will repay you for that in later episodes.

All in all even though my first experience isn't the best one, I think this one is a winner which will be a must for every fan of the book, and one of best series in some time in eyes of most of the viewers that didn't read the book. Another HBO's success! Enjoy the winter!

The Rite (2011)

Father Karras VS Michael Kovak
17 March 2011
I was thinking either to watch The Adjustment Bureau or The Rite. The day was rainy and blurry, so I ended up watching The Rite since it suited the overall atmosphere. Beginning of the movie is bit slow, but not in a way that would annoy you, it just gives a slow introduction to the story, which I really liked. Story and the mood are gloomy, and Rutger Hauer's role just fits him so much! It is really twisted to watch him and his son (Michael Kovak) working way in their family business. In this point of time I expected really much of the movie, but…..

But, there is always but. When the story started to evolve and the main theme started, I saw so much similarities with the Exorcist, specially between Michael Kovak and Father Karras. I don't know, I even found similarities in their physical appearance, or was is it only me? The possession itself was something already seen in few movies, and I didn't find it that interesting or imaginative. That is the main reason I didn't like the movie that much.

Positive sides of the movie are internal struggle and disbelief of Michael Kovak, and the way his story unfolds at the end. Of course there is a supporting role of Rutger Hauer, which as I already mentioned, is standardly good and fits him. Another thing is Anthony Hopkins – he is the reason this movie is worth watching. He had such a good role and reminded us that he still is alive and kicking! I liked the way he got into the role, simply brilliant! Specially the scene in the hospital after the unfortunate happenings there. 5/5 for him!

Sooo underrated
24 February 2011
I am really wondering why is this movie rated so poorly. Yes, it isn't a movie which would be a surprise and something new. Season of the witch is a movie that will be just perfect for anyone who wants to fill his/her Saturday afternoon in warm couch with beer/hot tea and snacks.

Atmosphere of the movie is really nice, I liked the factor of paranoia which slowly gets into minds of main characters. Movie tempo unwraps in best possible way, not too slow and not too fast, and it will keep you in the center of action and happenings all of the time. Pure fun in my opinion! Characters aren't elaborated to some detail levels, but just enough for you to like and know them. Music in the movie, I don't know was it something wrong with me, but now when I try to remember the music - I just can't! Was it because the music wasn't there, or it was really bad, or I was in a weird mood? Don't know!

All in all a good movie with good tempo and plenty of fun, I would recommend it. Oh yes, and it has a cool little twist at the end, a bit naive and without much sense maybe, but I loved it since I didn't expect it.

Stardust (2007)

Wonderful movie for everyone!
10 January 2011
I maybe am late with the review, but here it goes.

I have seen this movie almost 4 years ago, was amazed for the first time, and I still am every time I watch it. This movie didn't have much of a marketing and because of that I didn't expect anything from it. But, after watching it I was filled with joy, laugh and will to experience and live as much as I can!

This movie is suited for everyone from age 7 to 99. In my opinion everyone can find themselves (or at least part of them) in this wonderful movie.

Stardust is a mixture of fantasy, tale of friendship, true and pure love, adventure, relationships, all spiced with a pinch of intelligent humor. There is a message and lesson in this movie, about not being deceived with exterior and appearance, but to follow the heart. About basic human feelings and how to direct them.

Acting performance was also great. Cast is amazing and I have to say that Robert De Niro obviously had bunch of fun filming it, and he had a great role. Claire Danes is stunning and beautiful as Yvaine, she really had a amazing performance! Movie doesn't get boring in any moment, it keeps you nailed to the chair whole the time with it's subtle and wise plot. Camera is great, and there is a lovely soundtrack that really contributes to the overall atmosphere.

This movie guarantees loads of fun, laugh and good feelings in general.
