I assume that this movie is geared towards a young audience, as it seems to offer low-level entertainment. Keeping this in mind, I decided to download the 4k version, hoping to witness a revolutionary 3D art. However, I was sorely disappointed, as the movie failed to impress in that department. The use of the Papyrus font in this film is quite puzzling. Was this a decision made by the director, and how did the art director approve of such a terrible choice? This font is typically associated with Christian flyers and esoteric scented candles, and it feels out of place in a movie that was supposed to be the pinnacle of high-concept entertainment.
Despite the director's commitment to addressing environmental issues, portraying the native Smurfs as hunters seems inconsistent with his vegan or plant-based lifestyle. A truly balanced society that is in sync with its environment would respect all animals and refrain from hunting.
The character design in this movie is unimaginative, and it is hard to understand how anyone could have approved it. It is even more perplexing that an alien culture could resemble run-of-the-mill mid-2010s goa-ravers with dreadlocks and earlobe rings. The design is so distracting that it made it difficult to focus on the dialogue, and it was unintentionally comical. It is mind-boggling that a movie with an almost unlimited budget could attract zero talent, and it is probable that it was merely "yes men" for the director.
Overall, this movie is a great example of how money cannot buy love or artistic talent. I am sorry to say.
