Star Trek (2009)

Just Couldn't Get Into It
31 March 2023
It was ok, but knowing the characters so well and seeing every episode many times, most of the episodes on the spin-offs and all the movies before these ones, it was too...predictable in the character building? Not sure. Maybe when they said Lt. Uhura didn't have a first name? She does, it's Nyota. Some respect for the ground breaking character!

Comparing Star Trek to Star Wars is just goofy. I'm a huge Star Wars fan too. The only similarities is that they are set in space. Both George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry were genius in their own right. I'm guessing Star Trek had an influence on George Lucas when he wrote Star Wars, considering it was a decade before A New Hope.

10+ Years on Air is Lucrative
22 March 2023
This show drives me crazy. I swoop in every so often and it's the exact same as three seasons ago. Zilch.

It's clear the only treasure being made by the bros is the money being paid by the network, syndication, merch, name recognition for other ventures and the tourist dollars being made from Oak Island Tours, which they own.

Can't do it anymore, because I no longer care. There is nothing compelling about it. I haven't watched regularly for several seasons, but as I said, will check it out to see if they finally found some sort of something. Even Ancient Aliens makes the same thing more intriguing! Done!

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021–2022)

People just don't get it...
17 March 2023
I had no clue what this show was about, and it took some willpower to watch more than 30 mins. But I did not think AMC would green light a cheesy hourlong comedy with an annoying 70s laugh track. It's actually genius. The cheesiness adds to the complexity of the show. The totally annoying neighbors, family & friends, the Married with Children/All in the Family standard living room, ridiculous jokes and stupid ass husband all play into it. The bright light during the Kevin scenes vs. The dark Allison scenes add to the genius.

I've never been a fan of a people saying a show is a "smart" drama or comedy, but judging by the many poor reviews, this is. Those saying this has been done before are completely off base. It's clear these people have never watched vintage comedy, have a closed mind they just don't even want to try to open up or can't think outside their little world of perceived correctness. It's not a happy go lucky sitcom, it's far darker. Think Shameless (another genius dark comedy), not Friends. Give it at least two episodes before judging.

One weird thing, seems like Neil never takes off his coat.

Now it's the Real Housewives of Kings Landing
2 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After GoT ended, poorly, I didn't really care much about this show when it came out. Then this week while HBO is free, I decided to watch. The first five episodes were really good. Liked the characters & the story line. Thought the dragon CGI wasn't as good as GoT, but no biggie. Then episode 6. What is going on!?! Who are these people and who are all these children? What happened to the most interesting and intriguing characters? Daemon is now a happy book worm in the suburbs? Rhaenyra is now weak and runs away? Ser Criston went from virtuous knight to chatting with the Queen like she's his BFF. Was the snippet of fighting the crab eaters tossed in just to give us some action? I really didn't want to watch a bunch of children and lame dialogue with completely uninteresting characters after being sucked in with the first 5 episodes. Must be the same writers as Season 8. All I can say is thank the gods I didn't invest very much time!

Gutfeld! (2021–2024)
9/10
Took About A Month, but...
4 November 2021
It took me several episodes to get into it, but that may have been a learning curve for all of us. I think if Gutfeld was just by himself it would not be as funny. But with the panel, it's smart, quick wit. The interaction between the panel is great. It's also refreshing to see serious people, think Larry Kudlow or Dr. Drew, are actually funny too.

The regulars like Kat Timpf, Tyrus, Joe Machi, Joe DeVito or Tom Shillue add so much and are hysterical.

In this day and age where comedians, (except Chappelle) act like cheesy soap opera stars worried they will be cancelled, instead of comedians, it's a good way to finish the day.

It's very clear all the 1* reviews are the fools who are causing our country to lose its humor. Perhaps they are all so miserable and serious, they are no longer able to laugh. Or it could be Brian Stelter is hanging out with Colbert, Kimmel and the rest writing and posting fake reviews.

And Kat was the first, and still the funniest Psaki impersonator. SNL is a little slow on the uptake.

Teotihuacan was not Aztec
27 November 2020
Episode nine states Teotihuacan was the Aztecs, but it wasn't, it was Mayan. Most every other series ever, as well as The History Channel website states it was Mayan. Odd they would contradict themselves. But it is from 2016, and archaeology evolves. Now it's 2020 and it's all about the science, until it's not.

The Spanish Princess (2019–2020)
1/10
Horribly Inaccurate to be PC
27 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I made it through about 15 mins of episode one. It is so historically inaccurate. They should have changed the names and made it fiction. In that time: 1. Katherine has a perfect British accent, while Queen Isabella speaks to her in Spanish telling her to think in English. She's from Spain, there would be a Castilian accent. 2. She tells her lady in waiting, who would never have been African in the 1400's, that she was writing sexy letters to Arthur. She's known for her staunch Catholicism and being very pious. Not necessary! 3. Henry VIII was waaaaay too old, though I didn't watch that long, the timeline was off from the "story". 4. While her mother, Isabella did go on campaigns, she did not battle. And where was the king as she is fighting the moors? Do you have to make her more of a bad ass than she already was? Why no have her whip out a cell phone and call Columbus? 5. As if that wasn't bad enough, viewing the descriptions of future eps, having Katherine in armor while she is pregnant is just comical! You think she would go to battle while prego with the future of the Tutor linage? Just stupid. 6. Dialogue & acting were just not that great. No redemption there.

All this in 15 mins! I would prefer the beheading of Henry's wives or maybe the Spanish Inquisition over watching a whole episode, let alone a season.

Don't waste your time. Watch The Tutors or one of many movies/series about Elizabeth I if you want at least a more fact based historical drama!

Expedition Bigfoot (2019– )
3/10
Started Out OK, but...
27 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The first couple episodes were not too bad. I don't typically watch these kind of shows, but I was curious and the first three or so episodes kept me engaged. However, from there, it just got plain goofy causing the show to loose credibility.

Here are a few things that just don't work, are ridiculous or aren't even close to being logical:

According to Ronny, absolutely everything they see or experience is related to a Bigfoot report from somewhere. I seriously thought Dr. Mayor was going to slap him when he told her that her dream was not a dream, but was in fact Bigfoot making giggling children noises outside her tent. I guess Bigfoot knew she was missing her kids. Other things from Bigfoot manually pushing down trees to gifting people to Bigfoot sightings being close to cemeteries. It's just silly. There are tens of thousands of downed trees in a forest, especially old growth forest. Does Bigfoot push them all down? There are also odd little cemeteries all over the place in remote mountain areas. Where else were they supposed to bury people in 1880 while working and living there?

Two people, possibly three with the cameraman, go into an unknown mine at 3:00am. Everyone there just piles in. That's safe. What if it collapsed? Who'd be there to contact help? Who would do that? Especially a seasoned field scientist. And if a cinnabar mine is so toxic, how could Bigfoot, not only a mammal, but possibly a primate, survive the toxicity? We also had within these same scenes Russell not being able to contact Ronny and Dr. Mayor. Only for communication being magically restored right when they are going into the mine.

Throughout the series there's places where everyone says to be quiet and Dr. Mayor is actually whispering, but Ronny is practically yelling.

In the episode where they discuss touch DNA, they find a "nest". Why wouldn't they test it for touch DNA? Why not just take the whole darn nest? Does Bigfoot hunt with a weapon (Chewbacca uses a crossbow) because the "nest" looks remarkably like a blind set up by a hunter. They didn't even look for anything in there. Subsequent to that, they never looked for DNA again. Why not on the marble Bigfoot supposedly left, the bones in the abandoned house or the bone they seem to think couldn't possibly end up on a tree trunk in a forest. The tree that Bigfoot supposedly marked and scratched? The footprint? .

There's no grizzlies in Oregon.

The data analysis based on 50 years of sightings is a fresh idea. At least to me. And a great theory to start with. Some of the other tech/tools should have been used from day one (airship, ATV) or in lieu of other tools (thermal binoculars vs. standard or more use of the FLIR). Why not use LIDAR to remove the trees (though I'm not sure it would find wildlife)? Or FLIR from a drone? Works great on Extinct or Alive.

The glowing orbs I'm not even going to get into. Ok course, according to Ronny, orbs are typical for Bigfoot sightings. Chewbacca and the Millennial Falcon?

Russell has an underwater drone and sees a possible steer skull. He thinks that's odd. Not really, it's the mountains. We once found a half buried horse skull at 12,000 ft in Colorado. Lots of people worked and lived in mountain forests in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Which leads me to one more example. Russell asks why there may be an abandoned house. Because someone lived there once maybe? A homesteader? I guess the question was a reason to find out about the mine, which coincidentally is being entered right now, but he can't get them on the radio! Oh no! Thank goodness for the super fast research by Bryce which was just in time to save the day!

What happened to the many motion cameras they set up in episode one? They were all WiFi connected and supposedly covered everywhere. They have never ever talked about them again. They did talk about the video camera set up much later, but not the others.

I found Dr.Mayor to be very credible, and probably one of the main reasons I watched. As a respected scientist, she's adds credibility, but why would she be "Indiana Jones"? He's an archaeologist and professor whereas she is a biologist/primatologists/tv anchor. I guess the travel? Makes zero sense to me.

The show drifted slowly at first, then at full speed toward UFOs and supernatural occurrences. Chewbacca and the Millennial Falcon? He's either a mammal or not. This is where I really started to doubt the show completely. It was fun at first, but made zero sense later on and I would get all hung up on why did they do this and not that.

I could go on, but that's enough! I think you get the point. And in the end, did they find Bigfoot? What do you think?

Great film from an up and coming independent file maker!
8 September 2011
When I watched this movie, I was not sure what to expect. However, it had all the elements a great film has. You bonded with the characters and cheered for them in the end. There is the bad guys and the good guys, but it is not a good vs. evil story. You also get to laugh and cry. You truly feel for the characters the writer has created.

It is a touchy subject matter for many Americans, yet it is told without a bias. It is a good movie to watch, regardless of how you feel about this issue. To add to it, this is not a big studio film, but rather an independent film completely done by the writer. That adds to it in that it is a true American dream! I highly recommend it.
