A Wild Ride If You're Young Enough To Laugh About It
15 March 2024
As soon as the film starts, the dialog is stage play heavy and similar to a mad magazine meets twilight zone entry. Having fun with the dialog like stand up comedy and heavier moments in between make it a really cool comic book come to life. Something about it set in Philly in 1999 makes it just grimy enough to follow this road trip down South with the leads.

I love stories that break in and out of the past and present to give us a stained glass look at something like growing up and being different in all it's wonder. This really does a great job in lighting, kinetics and audio to make us weave in and out of the 'present' moment of their trip. The absurdity of the scenes are great, it's really like R. Crumb come to life on screen a little John Waters too.

There's a bit of indie art film in it, it doesn't try too hard to do those super serious grandiose shots and keeps grounded for the most part with closer shots and really quiet to loud moments making it silly. This plays out like a fun acid trip or drunken recollection of what happened one trip down to wherever. Actually it also feels a bit like Natural Born Killers and Raising Arizona too.

If you're not afraid of a incredibly odd journey with two charismatic lesbians and a few dangerous dildos then you might just have a fun time taking this one in.

The future is now, what will come disguised as fiction
13 May 2023
I instantly connected with this film as a 3d modeler and rigger of characters, puppets and an actor myself. I see the legos coming together piece by piece and they're starting to come together really well. One of the best examples of what is and what will come by simply hashing out ideas into what feels like a choose your own adventure video game. I could see this piece become a nice AAA game title in the near future. The subtleties were there, implications and explanations of how something akin to metahuman for realism meeting uncanny valley and the progression of that through the story is well crafted.

There's so many levels of how the cinematography gave us hints at the horrors involved in the story line but didn't ham fist it. I was carefully watching each character development in regards to the natural secrecy and repulsion of an actual AI progressing over time.

Some of the choices in actors and music are fantastic easter eggs, watch Alien and find out what I am commenting about. I wouldn't want to ruin it for you, and you'll love the tie in.

so much fun comic book madness done right
3 May 2023
Opening up we have the reference to a century of vampire filmmaking blended into a highly polished and well acted John wick style action. I feel like this fun is self aware in it's fun quirky full on Nick cage insanity. Nicholas is really the lost hero he often plays and it's murky nature is so much fun. I feel like if you morphed fear and loathing in Las Vegas into a horror film this would be it.

I felt like the wardrobe, stage and location setups were great, and colorful lighting is done carefully. The music although generic doesn't distract from the piece overall and I think that works well. Sometimes I really enjoy using contemporary or period reference music but here it didn't need to be used and it just clicked.

The supporting characters did lead level output too, it was so much fun to see them straightfaced give us their all. Computer sfx really blended nicely in this too, campy and yet really interesting. Real world moments sliding instantly into a comic strip is early what I needed from a film like this.

Have fun, don't take live too seriously and enjoy this entertainment like it's a gummy candy sort of begging you to eat just one more... Do it.

there's way too many ghost accounts flooding this with good reviews
1 November 2022
The effects and play space are awesome, but the acting is atrocious. It's on par with really bad SNL teleprompter reading, it sounds like an elective 101 class exercise. I kept falling asleep, had a dream this was shot pre-covid and for some reason kept nearly yelling (I did) to just stop! Maybe it was too hot in my room last night, but this was more than just a slog, it was a triathlon in bad acting.

This is a lot for it just being based on the first episode, so maybe I will come back and give it better than 6/10 stars, but I might lower it. I hate to do that, but this is so bad. I am not someone who puts lower than 5-6 almost ever, but what happened with the director, acting coach and the lines? It felt like the wooden acting in the star wars prequels. I don't like sand.

Beautiful Nightmare Lingering In Your Mind
27 October 2022
From the very start, the cinematography and sound just brought me in. I love the 1950's-1960's meets sort of James Bond and even a sci-fi vibe. The dark shots, squeaky clean sets, and insane fever dream plot lines just brought me in. I felt a bit like it was Natural Born Killers meets Artificial Intelligence with a taste of other things in there.

The simple use of visual and audio trippiness was really welcome to me as I love kinetic films. The acting is also really out there with everyone, and Harry did great, a full range of character emotion. Florence really believed what she was in, so did I watching. It's all too much to process at times, and really incredible to repeat and find little parts and great placement of detail.

The amount of subtext in it is really nice as well, nuances of other films or ideas helps a lot paint a picture of what people pinpoint in their desires, colliding with each other's differences. Another interesting note is it's resemblance to the video game Fallout where there's a scenario of a utopian 1950's cul-de-sac town, can't say why until you watch it, or play that game dlc, downloadable add-on content, it's just really wonderful in a dystopian and dysfunctional way.

Technically, the color saturation or lack thereof to change moments is amazing. The film grain is so apparent at times (digital maybe) and the use of such shallow depth of field really puts even more of a sense of artistry and or swimming maybe in a dream. It's worth quite a few views, especially with someone else who might appreciate if you could ping pong about the points of the film.

It's a good ride, and the stunts are excellent
3 July 2022
It's like you mix 24 with jack reacher, but it's really more than that. They did a fantastic job with the ops scenes and stunts overall. As for the dialog, it's basically television, modern television nothing more or less, until you see chris pratt and his team on screen.

Chris and his co star seals, and his friends, made it worth the binge. Some scenes were harder than others to get through, flashbacks, violence, theatres of war, etc. This isn't nothing more than because they did a great sketch of them dramatically, which is a plus.

Some might find this slow, but so are all netflix marvel shows, it seems a movie length story gets stretched and bent to fit a series these last 10 years or so, and something about that can be good or bad. It is filled with silly military talk, and heavy ham fisted ideas here and there, but it is actually more appealing than most endless series dialog moments.

Watch it, and if you're military, don't tear it apart. It's entertainment fiction, not a documentary or tutorial.

seven meets deliverance
5 June 2022
From the very start Gerard Butler had me not only believing the story but wanting to sit side by side and help him figure out the mystery. When the action came into play, someone who isn't a fighter trying to survive comes across so realistically, it had me completely hooked. The who done it, what happened southern crime drama with a hero dropped into the mix was a perfect play. I did feel like the ending needed about two minutes more development but each director sees different styles so it so worked well.

I love this tapestry of silliness and frustration
1 May 2022
From start to finish this is so much fun. I can't get enough of the slapstick comedy and madness with a slathering of complete stupidity. I think we've all had that incredibly dim witted friend who completely ruins our lives and gets us in trouble for no other reason that they weren't meant to exist, maybe we weren't either. There couldn't be better moments in this, it was as good as dumb and dumber, but d&d had a bit more abstract maybe purity to it. This was, well, frustration snacks and wtf mixers.

Someone out there in hollywood got mad and wanted this to fail, it happened here and dr. Doolittle, seems like a big wig is mad in tinsletown and will pay top dollar to spin negative yarns about rdj. Just take it in and enjoy it, and "you better check yourself before you wreck yourself". Seriously, the cameos are so well sketched out, it just makes me wonder maybe you really have to like sketch comedy to be into this type of film, similar to kids in the hall brain candy, monty python and the mike myers films.

If you have friends that love comedy, watch this together on a slow, quiet night, or a drunken swirly one, it's without a doubt worth it for the magic that rdj and santa with a perm can create from this turd sandwich of an adventure.

cinematic and engaging
21 January 2022
I really went in after seeing the trailer knowing the cinematic abilities were already going to shine, and I wasn't disappointed with the acting or story line. It was a very dramatic and hard to watch piece at times, and wonderful in others. Even seeing a sunset is a shining moment in this.

The lost feel of the lead is apparent from the start, and some things involving abuse could really turn away a few viewers for apparent reasons. The use of the tragedy and influence on the story development is carefully executed and there are more than a few surprises. You can almost smell the wood furniture, oil lamps and the lingering fear in this.

I really enjoyed the wardrobe and makeup choices and modulations throughout the piece as well, it was very carefully attended to. Accuracy as what I could understand really makes this a step ahead from just another western drama. Some might also have issues with religion in the piece, but I found it a good attempt to show many different sides to what was very important in that era.

I would certainly say the audio and video in this piece warrants a large screen viewing, and it's up to you to go and see it, even with others in a large living room on a saturday night together.

Wow, the dramatic music, lines, direction, and typical to agt and other terrible reality style shows, the attitude. Why? Why inject this negativity into our culture show after show, and script it with what is obvious nda agreements claiming it was natural, impromptu and real?

exactly what we needed in our darkest hour
6 November 2021
There's something that Tom Hanks brings to the table in every character he sculpts so we'll, and that's hope. The Mad Max meets wall-e type of intro is a special sauce I think we'll all revisit over and over, and the special effects are done so nicely suspension of disbelief is at a high.

Is everyone gone, what will happen after we end up killing each other instead of working together, well paranoia and barbarism finish is off, or can Finch guide us to a better place like a butterfly guides us out of sadness simply by flying into our path.

There's a magic in the end of the world where we can still believe in good. Every day people suffer and go through hell, it's not as sci fi as you'd think, and this little love letter of a film is asking us one thing, what do I do now? Well, watch it and decide for yourself.

mayhem everywhere as the animators make you laugh out loud
3 July 2021
Just sitting down to get into this, each and every hit was on, but I felt like the voice actors were more famous than correctly cast for this. Sure, that was a bit of the old nails on a chalkboard to hear Amy Suderis, but wasn't bad, maybe that's the mood beyond use famous actors to sell it.

The use of timing is everything in this visually. There's a chase scene that is very looney tunes and I love it, everything is cute and funny to the point kids will obsess over this one. That means you too, yes the kid inside will hem and haw about the first 10 minutes of the overly preachy parts, but they're even fun.

It's not bad to feel good when you watch a movie, have a couple of good life lessons thrown in there too to bat. The ideas are a bit all over the place, but many films do that, only in say Toy Story does the, wait, same thing there and that's a classic, right?

So if you like zany animation that breaks the rules of physics and silly voices with some tutorials on growing up, slowly, for kids, then check this one out.

great character stories brought to life in a pop 80s backdrop!
26 December 2020
From start to finish ww84 is telling us to enjoy life and be good to others. I was so excited to see this after the first film, and all of the ideas they were popping into 84, including the immersion of the 80's and they didn't disappoint. Diana and her new friend are nothing but magic and the characters are just cartoon world to irl, reality. The villains aren't always who we seem. It's worth it, enjoy this really adventurous script.

what a wonderful film from start to finish
23 November 2020
You could really feel like you went on a journey to go whaling when things went wrong, twilight zone like. The actors weren't acting, they were living the roles, wonderful cgi of nature mixed into the practical real world sets made this amazing. Every actor in this made it feel like an adventure I really needed at 4am during covid 19. Go in, turn up the volume, get a glass of water, you'll need it for the long moments when you don't know where you'll end up.

A beautiful tale of innocence
13 November 2020
When you want to be innocent and then maybe a bit of a devil, this super fantasy is right out of a comic book fairy tale. The music is wonderful in the rock or classical version of the film. The acting is super fun and beautifully character like, and the shots are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

Tim curry is the devil's son, and what a crazy amazing fx costume and voice he has in this. Tom and Mia do really wonderfully falling in love with each other and overcoming trust. The monsters throughout this are so wonderful and charismatic, it's like a dark version of Labyrinth. And if you want to know something really cool, the forest was built in a giant sound stage slash hanger. Wow, right?

Enjoy it, I can't imagine fantasy lovers or dreamers would be anything less than thrilled with Legend. It's beautiful, even if for those wonderful unicorns in the river bathed in woodland light and shadow as well.

A lot of fun and mystery, easily worth a viewing or two
9 November 2020
This was by far one of the best examples of a branch from a main theme in any universe of story and film rendition. It had a lot of heart, character development, backstory all in one. I have no idea, well I do, why reviewers tried as usual to slam something. It's got to do with public sway and marketing. Someone somewhere put the bug in the ear at rotten tomatoes and boom, illogical low rating.

The music, fantasy effects and overall feel are 100% from a comic book world. It was a delight to watch fear, romance and exploration sew into together as one. Easily one of my favorite x-men based films (even more so if I were a tween).

Excellent effects and a really goodpair up between the leads
3 October 2020
This was really good scifi, and in that I think the fx and dystopian feel mixed with space/time travel were astounding. In a way the fx eclipsed everything but did a 180 and brought the acting to meet it and keep it great. A couple of moments with the acting I was a little set back, but I got used to it and really enjoyed the lead actor interaction, very small cast in most scenes and it still felt big.

Life doesn't stink and laughter rules the day
18 September 2020
As an actor and a person who has lived on and off the streets myself I found this film really fun, funny and touching. I wasn't surprised by RT "pro" reviewers giving this 18%, it's something they would rather not look at. Reality. Not something with super attractive b-movie yet a-list actors. There is comedy and touching moments, Mel Brooks has always been good at this. Always. Watch this, enjoy the moments. And life does not stink. Also if you read this, feed the homeless when you can and say hello.

creepy creepshow kind of grit
10 September 2020
So much creepy freaky, very cartoonish even. I really didn't know what to think of this by the movie poster itself, and then I thought, why not? It's really fun, and the sound effects and pacing is, well, sort of compressive. A lot of films do this, we have seen it before, but this works well especially at it gets weirder through the film. Don't get salty, get into it, enjoy this horror film.

ridiculously fun, dude!
30 August 2020
Listen, dudes, if you think for one second (in a timeslip) you want to watch this bombtastic love letter to you, well then you're right! The special effects are fun, scifi is silly and the characters are most excellent in every day. Their daughters are ridiculously awkward and you know there's hell demons, hopscotch and 40 minute bass soloists!

Don't fudge with me, don't be a hater, be a bill and ted saver! I feel like I wasn't unhappy for a minute when I looked at all the little things they added, little tasty doritoes all over the kinetic frame. I mean sooner or later we're all going to play games with death, so let's give him and super sentient robots a chance!

Be excellent to each other and play this film on dudes!

that was an amazing film on all fronts
20 December 2019
This was by far my favorite star wars movie out of all of them, and that's saying a lot. There's so much old and new, cgi meets puppets, great acting and excellent storytelling. It was haunting, beautiful, rage and heartbeats all throughout it. I cannot believe the amount of realism in Leia, the languages created that sound fun and fantasy like.

Maybe I should say each star wars had a lot to offer, but I really wanted to like this one and I was blown away. Almost literally in the amc theatres, they have to chill on the volume level a bit. The 3d rendering matched so well it felt like it was real almost all of the time. There was a lot of mystery and the soundtrack was very helpful in that as well. If you have been watching The Mandalorian, it ties in some places, you'll see.

Watch this, the people on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviewers, are nuts.

Gemini Man, worth every minute for tech, acting and the ideas.
15 October 2019
Just watched Gemini man in 4k 60fps and it was interesting, felt like a soap opera because at times everything was at F16 I think, aka infinity focus nothing out of focus at all. Then it had a few moment with palm trees, library lamps and long archways that had depth of field blur (F4.5 say).

I love Will in anything, especially this one, it's just amazing how he and brad pitt are saying things to us in film without yelling it (about life, choices, maturity as a person, for me as a man).

The story was good, the CGI was mostly the best uncanny valley send off I have ever seen. I don't know where we are headed with these ghosts in the shell. Are we entering big city led lights virtuosity, is hollywood telling us something? Is culture and society? Am I just a person who loves technology but not what the general public does with it?

Gemini Man, worth every minute for tech, acting and the ideas. The fight scenes were really unbelievable too. Just too perfect and wonderful.

The colors that Lee uses are like What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams, brilliant and not murky at all. I loved digging in while enjoying the show itself. Go for it, watch Gemini Man.

Plot holes like swiss cheese
30 August 2019
It was interesting to see something so Donnie Darko like in a way. There was plenty of drama, intrigue and suspense. I felt that a lot of what the director or writer wanted to give to us was muddled and needed to be ironed out, not because I like happy endings or loose ends tied up, but when it is meant to be mysterious or fuzzy it should feel purposeful.

It was without a doubt an amazing film, but there were a lot of "wait, what?" and "couldn't that be done much better?" moments. They've really been putting Olivia in these horrible situations as a character lately, and a lot of them ironic to the film, are degrading. Real or not, I find that she needs to be the hero for once, or have a really good ending.

The characters feel real, all but the lead himself, which is on purpose. There is a lot of of aiming at Obama in this, the smile, underlying hints stuff I really dislike. But then again, that's politics for you. Dirt everywhere, the way the film calls things out pretend to be three dimensional but they are surely flat.

To analyze more would reveal the mysteries in it. Just go, it is certainly worth a watch or two.
