Truly awful
26 May 2020
If the words actually made sense, I could have maybe accepted it like an audio book. A really slow, annoying, audio book. But the script isn't even any good. It's like they got an AI to write it without much understanding of English. "And so it was that humanity detected a volume of non luminous gas". That's about the first quote I can bothered to find. And makes more sense than a lot of it.

Too unbelievable
4 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The unbelievability of this film made it annoying. An IT guy hacks your smart house so you smash up the IT and live in a broken house with no heating/air con, no coffee, no showers and no lights? Why not just cut out that stage, go stay in a hotel for a week and call in the people who installed it? At almost every stage, after the IT guy has gone crazy, the decisions taken by his victims are totally unlikely. The Founder of a million dollar company is probably not going to have the skills to commit burglary, so why does he try? Why, when he's got the advice of a professional does the professional do such a bad job of advising him? Make the victim go more than 40 seconds away from his house while you're breaking in maybe...

Making a film totally real would be boring, making a film totally unrealistic does not make it good.

"What is going on"
29 August 2016
Midway through, Alec Baldwin freaks out and screams "what is going on?" And theatrically knocks over a chair. (I hope this spoiler doesn't affect your enjoyment of the film, it's about as inconsequential a thing as most of what happens in the film)

Sums up how I feel about this film.

Despite all the pauses where characters get to explain what is going on, it still makes very little sense. Maybe I got bored and didn't concentrate on some important bits. But I think they had too much background plot to explain and not enough time or skill to make the explanation natural.

There are far too many things that happen without a reason, characters are not driven by obvious motives and the "science" behind the plot is weak.

The acting is wooden and seems as confused as me and Alec at times. It is quite well filmed. Contrast, light, shade, colour, etc... are all good. Shame the rest of it doesn't match the cinematography.
