Date Night (2010)
Surprisingly a great movie.
As I was in the movie store one day I picked this off the shelf on a whim, since it had both Carrel and Fey on it, and they are about the funniest people I know in the business. Needless to say, it did not disappoint me one bit! It was extremely funny, and when I say that I mean laugh out loud giggling 5 minutes later funny. Some of the scenes were just that great!
It was smart and simple and heartwarming. It mixes a great a likable humor that is kind of unpredictable and really fun! The protagonists of this story are equally likable and silly. This is a great and underrated movie that I could enjoy again and again!
Get Smart (2008)
Great Movie!
I could watch this movie again and again. It was so hilarious that some of the scenes had me in tears. It was goofy and sweet and so much fun to watch! Carrel and Hathaway worked so well together in this movie, they had such great dialogue.
And even though it is a goofy fun comedy it is a little unpredictable and has action and drama enough for everybody! I loved the characters in this movie, especially the 'tech nerds'. I had a smile on my face all the way through. I thought this movie was brilliant and a great comedy for any age! Just some of the scenes, no matter how ridiculous were a great joy to watch. But don't listen to me, watch the movie! It will not disappoint!
Raising Hope (2010)
I love this show
An amazing, amazing show. This show is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Though it started out a little slow in the beginning, it quickly found its quirky pace. Even though its a comedy it also is a very heartwarming and touching show that draws you into the characters and some of there grinningly hilarious situations. The episodes are a bit whimsical and exaggerated and they never disappoint. The writing is very smart and the dialogue is great. The cast works amazingly too as there timing is genius. Its not just another show, its an addictingly sweet story that I will continue to recommend to all my friends! They have me as a loyal viewer!
Terminator Salvation (2009)
I enjoyed it.
Though it was different from the original films, I enjoyed this film none the less. I love the Terminator, and maybe it wasn't the best of the series, but I enjoyed it as a separate film. It was fast paced with well developed characters, I found it interesting enough to watch. But one thing I didn't really enjoy the the dark, solemn portrayment of John Conner. It didn't really fit his earlier character.
I have to admit I did hear Marcus's accent slip through a couple times, but overall I think he added a lot of charisma to the film. The actor who played Kyle Reese, a genuine and believable was a joy to watch on screen as well. The atmosphere of the movie was a little gloomy, but I loved the look on the post apocalyptic dessert and the CG of the labs. I didn't regret watching this movie and it kept my attention all the way through. I liked it.
Adventure Time (2010)
Some episodes are better than others but the majority are great
I adore Adventure Time. I think it may very well be one of my favorite shows on television today, but with the many different directors on the show, each one can be a little different. Most are whimsical story's about a young heroic boy seeking adventure in his home land of Ooo. Fit with beautiful art and a nonsensical story. Other episodes are like a disturbing nightmare to watch as they push the boundaries much to far for a kids show.
In general, this show has great humor and adorable characters, each one more original than the next. It takes a little bit to get into this show and get used to the normals. Some episodes are extremely creepy, but most make up for it. As been said before, it may not be for everyone, but if this show was for me.
The Nines (2007)
...okay?
If the whole point of that movie was to leave you in the dark, it certainly did its job. When I saw it on netflix with the great cast that it has I was excited for it! But it just seems like this movie doesn't know what it wants to be! It starts out a drug like hallucination, then starts of in the comedy direction. It gets a little horror movie, a little scifi and none were really that enjoyable. The whole world of this movie was just confusing and rather overwhelming. Not one that brings whimsy to your mind or makes you want to jump in. It doesn't really give a point of why we should care for this protagonist at all either. This movie just did not have me interested, though it seems like it would have a better premise as a novel.
Dan in Real Life (2007)
A heartwarming movie
I really liked this movie and have watched it a couple times. Its a little depressing at times, but is filled with witty humor that keeps the movie going and will put a smile on your face. The characters and problems seem very real and relatable in the movie and the approach that the director takes is pretty original. It was very well cast as they made the story very believable and approachable.. This movie was really touching to me as it was written so well. Of course I like a lot of Steve Carrels movies and I believe he really lit up this movie and gave it charisma. This movie is full of emotion whether its making you cry or making you laugh. A great and smart movie for adults.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Different from the book but I still enjoyed it.
I think this movie was very smartly done. When I saw the cast list at first I was outraged! I thought somebody so pretty and young couldn't play Effie, I kid who already had so many iconic roles couldn't play Peeta and a tall blond beach babe couldn't play Katniss. But when I watched it it all seemed to come together. Very different how I Imagined it but in the same terrifying yet wondrous way.
The emotion that the cast brought on screen was fantastic! Even without Katniss narrating it, you could see what she was thinking and guess every thought in her head. The costuming was very brilliant and added to the story wonderfully. The camera shots at the beginning were a little annoying and artsy and too zoomed in though. It was hard to watch without becoming dizzy. And the final fight scene between the two guys, it just looked like two blond heads spinning around and around. This movie was enjoyable though, not the hunger games that I imagined but a good movie none the less.
Being Human (2011)
A depressing show
When I first saw a commercial for this on Syfy, I couldn't wait! I hadn't known that this was a remake and thought it seemed like quirky comedy that's plot sounded like a punchline of a funny joke.
But I was wrong. The episodes always answers "It can't possibly get any worse" with "Oh yes it can!" In almost of the episodes i've seen the show generally ends int he characters in a montage of sadness sitting in grey areas looking forlorn to depressing indie music thinking back upon the selfish mess that are their lives. Its just devastating to watch these characters have worse and worse lives.
Only a couple characters stand out in this series too, and one would be Sally. I liked them all at first, but Josh just started to seem to strange to relate to at all and they started playing up the "I can't help being dangerous" thing with Aiden so much that he now just seems like a detestable, selfish character. Sally always just seemed to be the little beam of light in the show as I found her story the most interesting, but in the second season with all the disturbing and horrible things she's done and scene, her cute Sally humor is just most likely to fade. I used to like this show but there is no lightness and humor, and having the characters just being depressed doesn't make for a fun show to look forward too. I will tune in to watch the next season but I just can't see how anything is going to change.
Alphas (2011)
A smart, well formulated show.
I like this show. I've been there since the beginning with the characters, struggling with their abilities and solving mysterious like Sherlock Holmes Xmen. Some of the characters are quirky, some are a little cliché but the dialogue is done well enough to were you don't mind so much. The powers some of these characters have may be the best part in the show. Its not just simply the "I can fly" or "I have super strength" powers. They are all interesting and creative, and some of them have downsides. Sometimes I just don't like how much this show tries to stay grounded in reality. They always have a scientific explanation for everything that has a little bit of whimsy in it. But as a whole its a very original show and they have me as a loyal viewer.
Drive (2011)
A different kind of movie.
There was a lot of things that attracted me to this movie. The plot wasn't the great part in the movie, but everything else was. The music, the acting, the silence, the lighting, the sudden violence. It was all just sort of transfixing. I loved how much this movie led you to question it, like for instance what The Drivers name was! The movie was so distracting itself that i didn't even realize that the movie didn't reveal his name! I'm not usually one for action films, but something about this really caught my attention. It was kind of off putting at first how little Ryan Gosling's character seemed to talk. It made you wonder what was going on in his mind, but at times he did seem sociopathicly strange.
I've never seen a movie like this before but it was thoroughly stunning. I loved every minute of it.
The Office (2005)
Emotional and Comedic
Each episode of the office is jam packed with different elements. Some funny, some emotional and lots of witty humor. Its a very addicting show that follows the life of the employes in a workplace under the watch of their quirky boss. I've never watched a disappointing episode yet as they all seem to be consistently funny even after 100+ episodes! Even though there can be some common place cliché office drama that goes on from time to time, they always seem to make it interesting and humorous for everybody. The situations range from the common place to the hysterically bizarre but the writing is so good and original that you'd follow these characters anywhere! This is absolutely on of my favorite shows! Go watch it!
The Karate Kid (1984)
It gets better every time you watch it.
The karate kid is one of my favorite movie of all times. Just re watching it I was surprised how emotional it was for me. Watching Daniel in the tournament getting beat up made me tear up a couple times. I know i'm biased since I grew up with the original, but I hate that it was remade and whenever I asked somebody if they had seen the karate kid they'd say "Oh yeah! Jackie Chan was great in that!". I hate that people are forgetting about the original. The characters are so genuine, the dialogue quirky and the directing was great! I can't imagine the casting in any other way! If you haven't seen the original karate kid you're missing out!
Rocky (1976)
Worth watching over!
When I was at the video store with my friend we couldn't find anything in new releases to watch. When she came around the corner with rocky, I thought she was joking! We rented it anyways and we put it in, I, figuring it was going to be a snore.
Boy was I wrong. 2 things: this film is ingenious, and this film is emotional. I was so surprised with how much this movie made me feel for these characters. It maybe fronted as a sports movie (and I generally hate sports movies). But this movie is the original underdog "you can do it!" uplifting movies. Its so worth watching it again! The characters were just so well developed and the relationships between them just seemed so real. This movies keeps you interested until the very end. Then you're on to Rocky 2, 3 and etc! I loved every bit of this movie and now realize that its timeless and relatable.
Give it a watch! You won't regret it!
The Lorax (2012)
I'm Disappointed
I don't think i've ever been so let down by a doctor Suess film before. I loved both the Grinches and I loved Horton hears a who. But this movie was really REALLY hard to sit through. Granted, its a movie geared towards children and as I am a teenage girl but even though, There are definitely timeless children's movies that I still love and make me smile I watch them today.
There is nothing timeless about this movie. There are no cool quirks about it or any catchy songs that get stuck in your head. In fact as soon as the first song came on I felt like hiding under my seat for making my friend come to the movie. All the songs were absolutely unbearable and over the top. We started groaning every time they started to sing. Even the all- star cast couldn't save this. The only couple good things about this movie was the colorful graphics and the lorax himself. Maybe if you were a young child it would be different.
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
One of my all time favorite movies
As soon as I saw the commercial for this I wanted to see it. The visuals of this movie seemed utterly amazing. Well as I i'm not familiar with Wes Andersons directing style I really did enjoy it. It kind of felt like you were watching a moving picture book with quick humor and witty dialogue and a cast that was bursting with charisma. I don't think there's a single thing about the movie I didn't like! Of course there could be the complaint that this movie wasn't much like the book, but I didn't mind that at all and I think that it kept all the unique quality that the book had. This movie is enjoyably smart whatever age you are and will have you laughing and crying. I highly recommend this film. You won't regret watching it!
Detention (2011)
...What Did I Just Watch?
Overall I don't really regret watching this movie, but this movie wasn't really about detention or the imminent threat of Cinderhella. I liked this movie at first. I was laughing along with the jokes, the quirky fast paced references got me interested in this film. i liked the exaggeration of the characters and the lighthearted approach it was taking. // Then the movie just started going crazy. It was almost as if I was watching different movies. The mini stories just kept getting tangled and some just didn't add into the plot. I felt that they were unnecessary, but that doesn't mean I didn't find them interesting. They were definitely creative but I would have enjoyed them if they were in a separate movie. The casting was good and the dialogue was witty, but the plot just lost me until I didn't care anymore. It was like the writer just tried to cram as many different crazy things into the movie as possible. Or maybe I just didn't get it. It just wasn't the movie for me.
