Old Dads (2023)
9/10
Such a refreshing movie.
28 October 2023
I keep trying to remember where I saw Bill Burr before..., was he the fake inspector in Breaking Bad? Was he a soldier somewhere else? I had to check. Yes, that was Bill in BB, and that was Bokeem in the Rock. These guys have been around and we didn't know the could have lead and support roles. They did great. While there may be a couple of clichés, there are still a couple of twists, and some innovation. Number one goof? Britney's belly after she just announced she's late, that's like a three month belly. But still, it all holds up. I felt for Jack dealing with the new interaction around peers that judge pretty much all "the old ways", it's so funny the States is the "land of freedom", and yet, you have to watch your speech every day, every where. ·"And that's all have to say about that" (I wonder how would good ol' Forrest handle himself these days). Mr. Burr, please, keep directing, you did put many smiles and a few laughs in myself tonight, thank you. I hope this movie brings you the right amount of revenue to keep going, if not, go on Kickstarter and I will send you whatever amount I can -not a wealthy fella myself, sorry- but you got my attention, admiration and support. Keep it real!

I can't believe they pay writers for this.
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, it feels like they were all on acid over a weekend and given carte blanche to FUBAR this to the infinite.

Just after watching the incoherent, absurd, mess of Wanda VS Dr. Strange, Moon Knight's talks with his inner self -just like Venom- , Nickelodeon-like Ms. Marvel, I was thinking: "They got She-Hulk right".

Despite another ludicrous abomination, yes, The Abomination's phase as a life-coach, the whole story was..., plausible. Having a mutant lawyer handling super-hero affairs makes total sense (Beast was appointed Mutant Secretary in X-men).

But this episode..., OMFG! If they were trying to kiss some producer's... hands, whoa, great job! No, this is not Star-wars, Kevin Feige's depiction as an all-seeing, almighty droid was flat, unoriginal, and dull -just so you get an idea, the Architect from Matrix is charming, charismatic and funny next to K. E. V. I. N.-

She-Hulk and performing actresses held up perfectly throughout the season. While I was sad to see Hulk leave, it was not his show -plus nobody likes Smart Hulk, face it.

So, why bringing him back? And giving him a son? (Not an expert on comic canon, so I can't tell if Disney/Marvel just made an executive decision, at this point I really don't care)

Yes, we all loved Daredevil the Netflix way -it was a bit dark- so it was nice seeing him, but seeing him chitchatting with Jennifer's family is sicker and more disturbing than the Kingpin in love -at least his chick also wanted to see the city burn.

And yet, it makes sense because both of them are lawyers, but... Daredevil in the middle of the day..., I was waiting for him to take a selfie with children or sign autographs. (The things people do for money, can't blame you Charlie, and Tim )

I was disappointed in so many ways, I'm thinking of writing an episode myself because believe me, those "writers" are overpaid. I hope someone gets fired for this.

Total Recall (I) (2012)
4/10
Not exactly a remake.
27 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this film excited about the casting of two my favorite actresses. Now, I have learned to appreciate Colin's acting after watching him in many movies, and again, my hopes were... a bit high.

Now, I agree with the fact that Arnold's movie was good and it is now a classic of the action films era.

So, what are the drawbacks on this new version?

1.-Flying cars, Chinese people in boats, rain..., a few not very well timed nor applied strange angles... anyone thought of Blade Runner? Because I did, and whether this was on purpose, or a mere coincidence, I did not like it at all. At least in Scott's movie, Vangelis, and the plot, created a wonderful atmosphere.

2.-The story. Of course, they had to make some changes, our we would've known the end from the beginning -wait! we knew the end from the beginning! - there are some loose ends, and things that make no sense. We know the hooker with 3 breasts was in the original movie, and her line is a reminiscence of the comment Benny does, but I don't think it was clear why that girl had 3 breasts -where as in the original it was due to defective domes in Mars.

I won't even talk about the way they stop the invasion, and the "fight" between Bryan Cranston and Colin Farrell -well, if Christopher Lee fought Yoda..., I'll buy it-.

3.-The score. Lame and irrelevant. Not that the original had a remarkable one, but I mean, remakes should be an improvement, right?

4.-Is it just me, or fight scenes are not what they used to be? I mean, the ones in Underworld, were good, until Selene had to fight this over-sized Werewolf in Awakening, and we realized mixed martial arts, Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiujiutsu were the trend on every action movie. I almost laughed when Bryan Cranston grabbed Farrell's arm and tried to break it taking him into submission!!! Not good, honestly.

Overall, this is a movie you can skip until it's shown on open TV and you're so bored you don't feel like switching channel on the remote. I mean, Kate Beckinsale in underwear is worth watching it, but seriously, you can be more entertained by Click and I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, both featuring my beautiful favorite actresses, than with this "new" Total Recall.

Only thing I liked in this movie...
28 January 2012
...and I hate using that expression..., but the only good thing in the movie was January Jones. I would've liked seeing more of her like that Vera Farmiga scene in The Departed or in Running scared..., but going back to this N.Cage movie, it was definitely predictable, not exciting enough, no good action sequences, totally expendable. In Mexico, the title in Spanish was that of the Charles Bronson movie "Death Wish" -Vengador Anónimo-, so it was misguiding. I wasn't looking forward to a remake of that movie, but I do like the vengeance/ payback movies, and my hopes were high -both Guy Pearce and Nicolas Cage are guys I consider good actors-, but I was disappointed, to the point of almost walking out of the theater. But January's presence kept me there, and believe me, only because of her, I could see the movie again when the DVD comes out.

I too hope the new Ghostrider gives us more action with better FX and a less clichés, because it's been a while since good old times of Conair, The Rock and even Rumble Fish!..., whatever happened to you Nick, get back on track, please...

Nothing new....
12 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Dogs as guardians of mankind are back, and I was looking forward to seeing this movie long time before they announced it. Too bad they tried to use some clichés and jokes from other spy movies giving them this "pet way of talking", as in other animated movies, they add a funny character -remember Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon?- which wasn't totally necessary, but makes the movie bearable.

I don't know if it's some bad acting by some of the actors, and a story that was too predictable -I know it's a children movie, but surprise is always good, and if we look back into the first movie, nobody would've expected Mr. Tinkles to take over his owner's company, and then leaving his sidekick behind, talk about twist of a bolt-. For a second there, I also think there was too much CGI, I know it's inevitable in films nowadays, but when it's so easy to distinguish shots, geeze, it's like watching a cartoon movie.

Now, Diggs, always blowing up the operation, is an exhausting resource here, it reminds me of Eddie Murphy in I spy... it's simply too stupid to be funny... I really think the team of writers followed the formula without even trying to bring something new to the film.

Watch it if you're extremely bored and the only thing on TV is American Idol.

John Goodman's best monologue.
1 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was wondering what character would John Goodman play in this type of movie -I mean, he was a cop co-starring with Denzel Washington once...-, secretly hoping that he would be some sort of thug..., then, he makes the first appearance as the one and only bad...s who will straight up that Billy character. After the family gets killed, I wasn't really expecting to see John Goodman's character again, so when Nick Hume ends up buying guns from him, I ended up speechless after he (Bones) acknowledges that Billy had it coming, and lets Nick go "his way". This without mentioning the way he introduced the .357 Magnum and the .45 was simply "splendid". By the way, does anyone know which gun is the last one?? The "sword of justice"? I will appreciate big time the tip.

This sequence makes the whole movie worth watching. Kudos to Mr. Goodman!

Terrible movie.
15 January 2009
I never agreed with the choice of Daniel Craig as James Bond. In the past, we thought movies like The Bourne Trilogy were imitating James Bond movies. I guess with the last two it's been the other way around, not it is the Bond franchise imitating the Bourne movies. Very fast motion frames, sequences with extreme fights, it's like watching Jason Bourne but with a different name and a not so foxy fella. Story totally flunked, villains are not as remarkable as they used to be, yes, maybe it would seem partially realistic, but that's never been the idea with these James Bond movies. Too bad they decided to give it this twist, it's totally bitter and makes us want to have Pierce Brosnan back -but I guess darn producers will never listen to us, the audience. I thought a bad choice was made when Timothy Dalton played Bond, now I can see there was room for someone worse...

Worst movie ever...
6 December 2008
I have seen bad movies, but this is seriously a good reason to stop Chinese directors from wasting other people's money and our time! By the way, I actually bought it as a bootleg, and I am so glad I didn't spend more than a dollar on it! I couldn't finish watching it! I stopped it and played a different movie...

I was surprised to find Robert Forster in this movie, he's a good actor and I don't see why he would take a role in such a bad production. Yah, special effects might be good, but that's not what this is all about, I mean, even Star Wars has a very elaborated script.

D-War sucks big time!

Date Movie (2006)
6/10
Comedy movies
12 July 2006
When I first saw the trailer for this new movie, I though it would be nice seeing it, since I have this crazy crush on Alyson Hannigan -yup, believe it or not- and well, Sophie Monk is just HOT..., but since I can see movies as good as Cyrano De Bergerac or Blade Runner, or a Jim Jarmusch movie -or Kurosawa, do you get my point?- I can also watch a comedy movie, always lowering my expectations. Humor many times is pretty stupid, and when you see someone reenacting a scene from a major movie, you even wonder about their creativity, but it's also a way to make fun of some blockbusters that everyone loves and no one dares to question. Therefore, Date Movie is for me a good comedy movie, of course is not getting an Oscar, maybe a Strawberry, but if you keep in your mind that you wanna forget stress and worries, and just let go, it's OK. However, if you can get someone else to pay the rent of the DVD, you will be saving a couple of dimes for sure.
