Hercules (2005)
Paul Telfer Made The T.V. Movie Good
I watched this last night and thought it was good. Whomever wrote Hercules killed his 2 sons was incorrect as he killed all 3 and made 5 promises (not 12) to the King (taken over from Timothy Dalton). That Lee Lee Sobiesky was one lucky girl putting her hands all over Paul Telfer like that. Someone said we can look upon him at PaulTelferfacesgh.com. What I thought was very funny in this movie (and I'm sure it wasn't meant to be) was that Hercules killed the Hydra, the lion thing and the bird things but on his last favor he came back without a supposed 3 headed dog and the crowd was saying things like, "What a coward." Then the king said, I ask what the crowd asks, "Where is the head of the dog, you coward." Anyway I enjoyed it as I love mythology and thought the special effects were fine. It will be back on T.V. if you missed it I'm sure.
The Mosquito Coast (1986)
Thought Provoking
I watched this last night having purchased it for $4.99. Everybody has already said what it's about but I didn't read where anybody thought it was ironic (SPOILER) that this man wanted to escape to utopia but turned out to be a murderer, polluted the water and became an arsonist. It was like he couldn't divert from his plan no matter what happened, he still thought it was better than America. I thought the moral of the story was people make heaven or hell, not places. Because Harrison Ford's character was compelled to go further into the jungle to show natives his ice, his actions turned their paradise into danger. Had they stayed where they lived he wouldn't have had to murder, he wouldn't have polluted that water with ammonia and he wouldn't have burned down the minister's house of worship. I did not read the book and can only go by how I understood the movie.
Alone in the Dark (2005)
I, for one, Liked Alone In The Dark
I read the negative comments and still went to see this movie and ended up liking it. I wish to criticize the criticizers who made comments like "worst movie ever made" and "no plot" "poor acting." I think these people have the wrong idea what seeing a film is about. It's about being entertained for an hour and a half to two hours and we're not professional movie reviewers who comment on bad acting and how movies are made. I say this because the movie was by far not the worst movie ever made and the plot, in my opinion, was a mad man trying to unleash creatures from another dimension who destroyed some Indian tribe 10,000 years ago. He enlists the help of 20 orphans now adults to help him accomplish this. I was never confused like some reported. It was all right there to follow and having Christian Slater and Stephen Dorf to look upon was also enjoyable for this lady. The creatures were obviously computer generated because there were so many but they moved so fast that you didn't get to look too long and then criticize them. So I did not waste $5 for matinée prices as I was indeed entertained and taken out of reality for an hour and a half. I say see movies without looking too deeply. Although, I did agree that HIDE AND SEEK sucked balls.
Seed of Chucky (2004)
Great, I loved it.
It's funny how many people didn't like this movie. The movie was very funny to me and I thought the killings were done well. I'm not going to rehash what the movie is about since every comment tells all, but I will say I was not disappointed by any of it being a die hard Chucky fan. Whoever said it was silly should have used the word funny because I laughed quite a few times and do recommend this movie. It has everything a horror fan could want, some nudity, rated R language, sex and murder (they even threw in love). Jennifer Tilly is a very attractive woman with no flaws I could find when they had the film on her face up close many times. She wasn't fat either so I think somebody was mistaken that she said that because I only heard it when she saw she was 9 months pregnant. Anyway, maybe you have to be in the right mood to enjoy this film as I did.
Stranded (2002)
I've Seen Much Worse
After reading nothing but bad reviews of this movie, I went out to rent it just to see if it was all that bad. This coming from a woman, it was worth my $4.23 to rent it just to see how these once handsome actors aged. Michael Dudikoff is 50 years old so he was 47 when he made Stranded and he looks great... he is in great physical shape as well as his face and hair. Art Hindle of Porky's I & II (as Ted) is now 56. He still has his body in shape but his face is a mass of wrinkles for being only 53 when the movie was made. Andrew Stevens who was once so handsome in The Fury is 49 now and only one year YOUNGER than Michael yet didn't age as well. He still has his hair and body, but wrinkles galore. I have seen many movies worse than this and although I agree it wasn't that good, it certainly wasn't as bad as it's made out to be (once again a woman's opinion). So if you want to compare yourselves at 46 (Andrew) 47 (Michael) and 53 (Art) it's worth renting just to see how different people age.
Birth (2004)
Not What I Expected
I'm not a big fan of Nicole's, but I am a fan of the genre this movie was supposed to be. The commercials showed the 10 year old boy telling her he was her husband. When he gets undressed and gets in the bathtub with her, she asks "What are you doing?" And a boy his age who can view her breasts simply replies, "Looking at my wife." I was one of the people walking out of the theatre when this was over muttering, "That sucked." Why? Just because it wasn't what I expected. I really hated the way the director stayed on stuff too long like the husband jogging and Nicole's face in the theater... it was uncomfortable and people said, "Is the film stuck?" So I won't say my opinion is correct since others seemed to like it, I'm a fan of thrillers and this wasn't one. Wait for the video unless you just have to see Nicole's face on the big screen for 3 minutes straight.
Saw (2004)
Great Psychological Thriller
I am a horror/thriller movie connoisseur as is the person I went with and we both absolutely loved Saw. After watching scary movies since a child I became used to seeing people die in all different manners and always look for a new killing style. This movie provides that plus there is tension which is what I like too. So if you like who dunnit thrillers, this is the movie for you. If you want to enjoy the movie more, don't try to guess the killer as you'll be wrong and that's not spoiling it. I thought I figured it out, but was wrong, although the person I saw it with guessed it. Look for weight gain in Cary Elwes (I didn't know anybody else). Those who didn't like this are probably the ones who loved Blair Witch project which was actually the worst movie ever made.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
More Horrible than Horror
I had heard of The Last House On The Left in high school and the saying, "keep telling yourself it's only a movie." I agree totally that this movie was awful. Whereas Wes has been funny in Nightmare on Elm Street with Freddy Kruger the supposed funny parts here made you roll your eyes and the sound track was like no music I heard in the early 70's. I recognized one actor, Martin Kove, as the comic relief and let me tell you if you're lucky, you may chuckle once. The only redeemable thing about this movie is the fact that things like that and worse have happened to girls and I found myself routing for their escape. Other than that, don't waste your time on this outdated disappointing movie.
