A Night of the Living Dead (2022)
A solid effort!
I was given the opportunity to watch a screener of this film, and being a huge fan on the original Dead series from the master George A Romero, I was looking forward to seeing what these guys had done
Now, lets start of by saying this is a low budget film, its not a blockbuster by any means, but I feel there was a passion behind this, and a great idea, which comes through. So going into this with that knowledge, I had a good idea of what to expect, so lets get into it...
The Acting:
Its hit and miss, some of the acting is good, some is not that good. Its not terrible, mind you, but some of it is just a bit bland, with no passion or emotion behind it. And some of it, is overacted!
The story:
This is one thing I liked a lot about this. Reminiscent of the background for Return Of The Living Dead where the original tale was based on real events. With an interesting premise, and some solid character development to start with, it starts out well, but the premise doesn't hold the pacing throughout.
Filming/editing:
This was something that might be due to a screener version or maybe not, time will tell, but the hue, or saturation was so bright! It made everything seemed washed out, and there seemed to be a filter used (not sure the name of it) but dark around the edges! There was also a part about 30 minutes in you hear the director say "cut"... But this may be due to it being a screener, time will tell!
Effects:
Little special effects, but the ones used, mainly to make the eyes have that sunken in effect, were done well, and probably helped by the way it was filmed. Hard to say, but if the movie was in full colour, it may not have looked as good.
Overall... This is a fairly decent effort, with a good story and writing, but the filming quality, at least in the screener was what let it down.
12 Kilometers (2016)
An atmospheric ride into the dark...
Mike has done a great job of making a short film, with a good story, fantastic camerawork and visuals, with tonnes of atmosphere packed into a tight 30 minute run time.
Like I said, its very atmospheric, and goes for a "less is more" approach, leaving the movie open as to what was going on, what where they trying to do etc. And left me wanting more. I could see this being a really good, full length feature, with a more expanded backstory and resolution, but that being said, I really enjoyed this as a short film as well.
Filmed very smartly, and with a clear eye and direction, the set design looks great and authentic and the sound was on point, really keeping you on edge.
Kudo's to Mike Pecci and crew for delivering a standout movie!
Truth (2014)
Not bad, not good either
It tries to be a great movie and it has a decent enough premise, but it falls short on many levels. The acting is better than some movies, and the cast do there best but the writing leaves a lot to be desired and the words often seem forced. Direction is fine, some decent shots. The plot could have been much better but the opening exposition and even the scene with the "military" doesn't do the movie any favours.
Nostradamus: End of Days (2021)
Meh
What's disappointing about the "end of days" is that it only seems to affect the USA...
