Foundation (2021)
Visually beautiful but ... too uneven
There are some brilliant scenes and acting, but way too many boring ones. But worst for me is the writing: 1/ it is ok I guess to expand from Asimov's story, but completely negate it? 2/when you ask your audience to suspend their disbelief once or twice, it is ok. But when it is a dozen times, there is nothing left to believe... 3/when most of the episodes are spent talking and telling (not showing), it doesn't help. I almost fell asleep during the last episode.
I really hope they will improve next season.
Les héros ne meurent jamais (2019)
A good first feature
A good first feature. Adèle shines as always, and the "hero" is also very much believable and moving. Love - death - mourning - friendship are underlying themes of that movie, which remained with me a long time after watching it.
I will follow Aude-Lea's career for sure.
Le retour du héros (2018)
Annoying hero
I am probably immune to this "hero". I have no idea what is supposed to be funny in this movie. I didn't even smile once.
Kept on watching only for N. Merlant and M. Laurent , wonderful actresses whom I saw being much better in other movies.
I wish I hadn't .
Un divan à Tunis (2019)
Nice one!
This movie will put a big smile on your face. Kuddos to the director for this nice first movie. Wishing her success for the next ones too :)
Deux (2019)
Thank you thank you...
... for this wonderful representation of two mature women in love. Emotional, and also fun! Thank you for this story ; thank you to the whole team; and thank you to the director for carrying such a project and caring about representation. Glad to see new filmmakers driven by such a strong sense of responsibility. Looking forward to watching your future movies, Sir!
The Game Changers (2018)
Could have been better
Although convinced a whole food plant based is the way to go, I found the documentary rather boring and bland. Nothing really new under the sun. All that hype for that?. I am not a guy nor a body builder nor someone obsessed by strength and being "manly", maybe that's why the film didn't appeal to me...
It feels like only the surface was scratched. I think it would have been interesting to have a deeper understanding of what and how much one of these athletes was eating during the day. It would have been more concrete.
The Defenders: Ashes, Ashes (2017)
Highly Boring episode
Blah blah, and blah blah, and blah blah...
Iron fist is even more the whiny kid in this one. Oh and, how come Jess knows about Matt's past suddenly?
Daredevil: The Perfect Game (2018)
Good season overall
Awesome acting.
Hard to forget the big plot hole though: how could a psychopath be allowed to join the FBI?
Deadpool 2 (2018)
Pleasant, but a bit disappointing
I enjoyed it less than the first movie. This time most jokes fell flat. A few laughs here and there. Still pleasant enough movie to watch to relax or pass the time.
*** spoiler ****
at first I got mad they would use the old "dead wife" trope, but fortunately, it got better ;)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Slump (2013)
Funny series; but guys, please get your references right ...
When you reference old movies, at least get the director right :D
Breathless is not from Truffaut
The Expanse: Abaddon's Gate (2018)
Loved it!
Glad it was finally picked up by Amazon.
This season was uneven - with a couple of filler episodes - but globally I enjoyed it very much. Not only is it good SF, but I especially like the fact the characters are diverse (ethnicity, age, gender, orientation). That is a nice improvement compared to most of today's production. Well done, and please, make a fourth season even more enjoyable ! :)
The Expanse: Dandelion Sky (2018)
I dunno what to think about this episode
It felt like... nothing happened at all? I am glad the series got renewed an extra year, but they definitely need to improve the pace. The last eps got me close to boredom. I was used to so much better!
Sense8: Amor Vincit Omnia (2018)
Good moments...
... But too rushed. Too much dialogs. Too much of everything. Too much sap at the end. They obviously had to pack everything in there, and it wasn't easy to follow (or even believe in the story anymore).
I am grateful they made a final episode for the fans, but it makes me regretting an extra season even more. The series was brilliant overall and I will miss this bunch a lot.
The Expanse: Delta-V (2018)
Confused with that ep...
Too many changes, too many new characters at once. I felt the writers were like "ok, now, what can we do to renew ourselves"? That is a good question to ask, and the series is great otherwise (my favorite, actually), but this time the story felt a bit rushed.
Fear the Walking Dead: Just in Case (2018)
I'm done
Same storylines over and over again ("am I a bad person? no you aren't... Yes, this is who I am" ... "No, it's in the past" . "But you don't undestand, I'm bad" Etc). It is like the writers abandoned any interest in developing the characters (beyond stereotypes). Except Madison, they're stuck in their own flaws and lack of logic (what the heck, Alicia????? ).
4 stars only due to the acting (Naomi especially)
Counterpart: The Sincerest Form of Flattery (2018)
Not a bad episode, but lacks credibility
I really enjoy this series, especially the acting. Something I regret though, is the lack of credibility of the script sometimes.
For instance, how come Quayle has such a high position if he's so clearly unable to keep his mouth shut?
I just can't believe it.
The 100: Perverse Instantiation: Part One (2016)
Solid acting, but offensive content
This episode was well paced, well played by the lead and most actors (there are two exceptions but I do not want to name anyone), but... When you forget character development and base your story on torture porn instead, the plot gets way boring after a while.
Also I did not get Bellamy's change of heart (grounders are not enemies anymore, pal?), the fact that Clarke trusts him again (same as season 2), the demise of Ontari (I feel she could have been a bit more "useful" to the plot), how Roan immediately accepted Clark's crazy story and plan (if someone told me that, I'd think they're wacko :), why Harper forgot how to fight and went down so easily...
I would agree with Murphy though: "Clarke is always in trouble". And always saying sorry... and always suffering, but "sucking it up".
Like I said: boring.
The 100: Stealing Fire (2016)
disappointed by the story telling.
I hate giving a rating of 3, because I think the 100 has wonderful actors: Eliza, Richard, Adina... And I am sorry for them. I would give those a 10! (and of course same to Alycia and Ricky) But sorry... the story telling is so very weak now. I used to like the series but now they lost me. It is getting worse and worse: poor dialogue (never heard of the "show don't tell" guys?), characters deaths happening for shock value, extremely quick pacing and then long moments of boredom...
And I find this AI think so very ridiculous...
I am a sci-fi addict though, but I find nothing new here.
I am mourning a series which could have been magnificent...
The 100: Thirteen (2016)
Only the actors saved it
Lexa was the kind of character we do not see often. Extremely well written, layered, and played. She will be awfully missed. So... she is dead.
But the worst is:
Why kill her in this stupidest way? This is just plain silly. The way it happens is silly.
O scriptwriter, O show-runner, please tell me: 1/ where were her guards? Why a warrior like her would enter a room, unarmed, without guards, after hearing gunshots? The same guards magically appearing after her death? They were RIGHT BEHIND THAT F*** DOOR! 2/ Clarke, who is almost a doctor, and loves her dearly, who managed to save quite a few lives in the past, DOES NOT EVEN THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE HEALERS IN THAT TOWER to help her?
This is bad writing. Too bad, the rest of the episode was quite intense, but that last bit, really... spoiled everything.
And I am not even talking about the damage it has done to the LGBT community, especially the youth (whom CW targets). To show an independent and strong woman, a warrior, stupidly dying by accident, by the hand of a patriarchal figure no less, RIGHT after she had consummated her relationship with the woman of her life. What message is that!!!? Especially after having LURED them to watch this "groundbreaking show"? Nothing groundbreaking here... Just an old trope seen a thousands times.
Only the actors saved this episode. Special kudos to Alycia Debman-Carey (already missing you!), Eliza Taylor (I'll keep watching The 100 only because of you), and Erica Cerra (impressive in that one).
