Doctor Sleep (2019)
Watch THE SHINING first
Amazing, intense, emotional roller coaster!! Watch it fresh after watching the Shining for the best experience. A lot of "oh my god! Look its from the first movie!"
Action packed, way darker than I expected, amazing editing, lovable characters (the protagonists, anyways). The movie is even crazier than the trailer makes it out to be.
What would have made this perfect??
- If Billy never died
- If Abra's dad didn't die
- If Abra actually had a head to head battle with the witch, that would have been epicccc.
- And finally, if they made this into a series!!
Split (2016)
Ehhh...no.
Aside from furthering the stigma of DID, there are other reasons I didn't like this.
From the beginning, no one put up a fight. This could have ended right at the car, if the dad actually fought back, made enough noise against the car to startle the girls so they could run. Kevin gets inside, and still no one fights. Casey does nothing when she slightly opens the door. She should have tried to run. There's no way he could have caught her if she ran from the passenger seat.
The girls were pathetic and put up no fight. The therapist made so many stupid decisions like visiting him at his shady place. Should have alerted police or investigators or something, ANYTHING but go to his place unarmed!! Should have said his name herself.
The supernatural element was kind of ridiculous!! He turns into a literal cannibal demon that can withstand bullets and climb walls lol.
Not sure about the ending, was that him or something?? 15 years later? I'm not sure. But there was definitely no justice and he most definitely escaped after killing and eating 3 people.
So many opportunities to take him out and escape. So many opportunities to fight back or break free.
They really make it a point that "sometimes as a shrink you are too caring and too compassionate"... and then you end up like the Doctor. I wish she would have lived.
Hunter Hunter (2020)
Keeps you hooked for a time
Awesome acting. However, characters were making stupid decisions the whole time. Gore at the end was too much and unnecessary. Plot twist was almost disappointing. But still, it was thrilling "enough" to keep watching.
The Calling (2000)
Couldn't finish!
Detestable characters, poor writing/dialogue, confusing cuts, awful actors, super boring. Someone's poor attempt of a horror movie.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
The best of the Annabelle movies
Absolutely the scariest of the Annabelle movies. Right up there with the Conjuring ones. Very disturbing imagery!
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Hard to watch
Why does the babysitter allow her superficial, fake friend to come over? Why does her friend open a container that says POSITIVELY DO NOT OPEN? She was so freakishly nosey it was hard to watch. She touched EVERYTHING. She viewed EVERYTHING and went through their confidential documents and videos. The worst part? After this dumb girl lets out the demons she basically gets sympathy from Lorraine. "Your father says it wasn't your fault" I'm suppose to care about this girl after she nearly killed everyone?
Btw Ed and Lorraine are barely in the movie. Not sure why they were included at all. If this was any bit of realistic, the annoying girl would have been killed and the babysitter girl fired for betraying the trust of Ed & Lorraine. That 3 young girls could take on several demons is so unrealistic. Conjuring franchise would be better off without this movie.
Destination Wedding (2018)
Like reading essays
It was extremely boring. It was extremely wordy, like they were both reading essays. And a lot of it was whispered and mumbled (because they were gossiping in secret), so you couldn't make out everything they say unless you really turned up the volume or had subtitles.
I appreciate the attempt at cynical and pessimistic humor. Sometimes it was a little too depressing for my taste lol. They definitely had no believable chemistry.
I didn't finish it.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
A little bit cringe ):
Characters made absurd decisions that were just too much to bear! Like when he turns the car around to see what was up with the bloody bodies he saw the man throw down the pipe. Oh, but thats not enough. He actually goes INSIDE the pipe. "What if they're alive?" he says to justify such a stupid action.
You never find out where the monster came from. Just what he does to stay alive.
When Darry and his sister tell the cops about what they saw, the cops didn't believe them. An assertion like that would have made the cops immediately check the building.
Unfortunately Darry gets taken and killed in the end. Deserved after making so many consecutive stupid decisions. But disappointing because despite his stupidity you still kinda like his character.
I wish they would have just minded their business and kept driving like his sister wanted. There was time where the creepy car was NOT following them, but instead of driving on they keep exploring. If they made logical decisions you wouldn't have a movie.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Creative concept and thrilling
I thought it was great and definitely a thriller. I wonder about some of the choices made by the characters and the kids lol. But what would a scary movie be without some bad choices?
The atmosphere, the acting and the story make up for the bad choices. It was really thrilling to watch.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Awesome!
Awesome movie with very realistic looking aliens!
You never really find out *where* they come from (they crashed from space and that's all you know) but if you don't think about it too hard its still fun to watch.
It has a lot of emotional scenes! And a lot of action. So you're tearing up and then you're feeling tense again and its awesome. Great acting from everyone.
The Little Things (2021)
Odd movie
Very odd. Weird ending. Trailer is more exciting than the actual movie.
Room (2015)
Realistic and creative
Definitely impressed with the child's acting. A very realistic story of what would happen when an imprisoned mother and child are finally free after 7 years. Everyone's acting was great! I definitely could feel Joy's misery and helplessness. And Jack acted like a reasonable 5 year old would who has little social skills and much confusion about the new world he steps into.
It wasn't too dark or violent. I kind of expected more of that. But it still had its moments that made your heart beat fast in suspense. Really creative!
Black Swan (2010)
Artsy but not that great
Nothing particularly memorable about the movie. I liked the artsy vibe, and I like the "going crazy" theme. Its not a typical storyline with likeable characters and a happy ending. Its more like...a sexually harassing man that gets away with it, a friend she suspects trying to steal her role, an overbearing mother.. and of course Nina is a fragile girl and cannot cope with everything. Interesting to watch, but probably would not watch it again.
