Neverwinter Nights 2 (2006)
A decent experience with ups and downs
This review is only about nwn2's main campaign (MC).
From a first glance, it's a quite decent game, given it's a 2006 game and honestly quite well developed even though far from perfect. As an rpg game the variety of classes, deities, skills, etc is greatly expanded, which means you can build pretty unique characters on every alignement you want.
The storyline, as the title suggests is somewhat peculiar. There are many cliche parts, I 'll avoid elaborating as I prefer the review to be spoilless, but If you try the game it's quite easy to tell; and on the other side, there are plenty of interesting quests especially in the mid game which I honestly loved and stayed full focused.
I didn't really like the companion characters personally, I felt they were scewing to the "good" side on average and that makes the campaign kinda disappointing if you want to go as an evil character. The rectifying part was that the evil characters were clearly better developed so maybe that balances things out.
Now, obviously dnd rpg games are not from everyone as If you want to play the game on hard or very hard difficulty you have to pause and strategise every single second of the fights, which can be preferable for some players but certainly not for the majority. So I would suggest this game mostly for the storyline rather than the battle element.
Overall it was a great experience and If you manage to finish it, it is a mandatory to go for the expansion sequel Mask of the Betrayer where the level is hugely elevated.
Imperial Glory (2005)
Holy Smokes, Imperial Glory
I was checking my old games the other day and stumbled across to it's dvd disc and gave it a shot after more than 10 years. So I felt like spending 10 minutes to write a review about it. It kinda surprises me that has no reviews or ratings at all as it was quite decent at his time, obviously before Empire Total War arrived (ETW).
This game is basically a precursor to ETW starting at the French Revoluton at 1789, where you choose one of the great forces (GB, France, Prussia, Austria, Russia) on the quest to conquer the whole Europe. It's an 80-100% strategy game (depending on whether you want to play the action fights or let it to computer to decide), where you can deploy troups, build all sorts of buildings (barracks, trading, ports, universities, hospitals, etc), create alliances, declare war/truce and these sorts of stuff.
It is not a game I would recomend anymore, as ETW is much more rich in development in all aspects, and might get quite boring at the mid to late game, once you have actually conquered 1/3 to 1/2 of Europe and noone can oppose you, so there's no real danger or risk after this point. It is also quite an easy game; If you have some experience on similar games you can comfortable win it on hard difficulty first time.
All in all, it was a decent game back at it's time (I was about 10 when I first played it and i was getting owned) but unless you are on an old-game-marathon and you like this kind of games I would not recomend it.
Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Ralph is the mvp <3
Wreck it Ralph, an unprecedented movie, filled with action, emotion and generally nostalgia for "the old good days" were arcade games were popular. In this one, the arcade-game characters have their own lives in their own imaginary worlds.
The story is well-crafted, a solid scenario without any boring parts unrelated to the main story, and all tights up together to impress the audience and to confirm their' ingenious writters. As long as the animation is concerned, it's just wonderful seeing all these diffirent colouful arcade worlds, but I can't talk more for that, it's something you NEED to see to understand it.
At last, I loved how movie shows arcade games evovling throught the years and
how they affected the gamers' lives by giving them joy and entertainment and freedom to another world. I also liked that there are characters from arcade games I played myself such as Street fighter, Pac mac, and others I unfortunately didn't knew, it really connected me.
You are also gonna love and get touched by the movie's ending. It's 0% chance to regret seeing it, I can promise that.
The Book of Life (2014)
A really original script
The book of life is an animated adventure about love & self-authenticity, framed in mexican's culture & costumes about their afterlife view.
This movie carries exceptional quality and colours on characters clothing, sceneries, spirits; probably the best I've seen in animated movies. Perfect in detail!
The whole adventure comes with both entertaining & touching music, keeping the viewer commited to this fascinated world.
A movie.. or rather a journey you can't miss!
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (2007)
A must-play for every gamer who loves great story lines
The Mask of the betrayer (MOTB), is a sequel of the decent main campaign (MC) of Neverwinter Nights 2, where you can complete your character's story.
On the contrary with MC, MOTB is way better in almost every aspect. The plot is unique, mysterious, intriguing and as the game progresses gets you really deep. One of the best you 'll meet in rpg's. The NPC characters are so well written! Specifically Kaelyn and Gann of dreams. You really feel you can rely on your companions rather than MC's where they were really mediocre ones and more trouble than helpful.
NWN2's graphics generally are decent, a bit annoying on the low mobility you get in battles due to high spellcasting time, which gives you the opportunity to pause multiple times through the battle, to plan and decide your moves, so as to get the optimal outcome. It would have been better If you hadn't that option cause it kills the action in many ways. I expected the game more buggy but turned out to be really well programmed-developed.
All in all, If you really enjoy the story lines of rpg games (and don't skip the dialogues playing it just for the game play), then MOTB is really a recommend of me.
