Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
is this what people are freaking out about?
The whole thing is a little heavy-handed but it's pretty much on brand with the show. I find the forced women's right scenario more repulsive than the sperm babies.
The Boys: Glorious Five Year Plan (2022)
I miss the wackiness.
There's some annoying choice of music that's really bugging me to a point it ruins a scene. It also feels like this series want to tackle so many social issues at once that it gets kinda bloated and almost self-jerking. But the biggest issue for me is that it has too many characters. Like, I really don't care about supersonic man. Even the deep is just sad to look at. Definitely sounds like I hate this more but honestly I enjoyed it. For the most part it's exactly what you expected but I kinda wish they focus more on the wackiness instead of making every character sad.
Love, Death & Robots: Bad Travelling (2022)
bleak and unforgiving but hopeful
A great story told in a short amount of time. I'm so glad they ended it right when he rowed his boat. It's dark and unforgiving but despite all that there's a glimmer of humanity in the main character who do the right thing to saves hundreds of people that he may not even know. Honestly the best episode of this series so far. It's so bleak but hopeful in a way. I absolutely love this type of story where they never made a point that the main character is a good person but he did the right thing in the end. I love it!
Moon Knight: Gods and Monsters (2022)
I'm kinda disappointed because this is exactly how I pictured the ending back in episode 3.
For once I'd love to be proven wrong. This is the same old boring and tired Marvel's ending. We've seen this millions of times. Nothing special about it. The most interesting part of the finale is a guy we don't even see until the end of the episode. I guess asking for an ending that didn't involve cgi monsters (gods) punching eachother is too much to ask
pacing is a huge issue in this one. It was all over the place and there's also some weird cuts here and there. Oscar Isaac is still amazing tho as usual but man Harrow's character really fell off by the end of the series.
Severance (2022)
a rant about an amazing show
God I hate that stupid cliffhanger ending. It'd be so nice to have one solid season with a complete story without some phishing for s2 bs. The show itself is great. Tight, solid and extremely well written. Also well acted by every major characters. It'd be 10/10 for me if it wasn't for that stupid cliffhanger. I think one more episode can easily solves that. Instead we now have to wait for god knows when for the conclusion to happens in the first episode of s2.
Like, I'm pretty sure you can conclude the story of mdr crew in s1 while still having more stuff to explore in s2. There's still Reghabi, Petey entire story is still very much unsolved, outtie Irv backstory, Helly being one of the Eagan and the entire thing between ms. Cobel/Selvig, ms. Casey/Gemma and Mark entire arc. GOD!
Moon Knight: Summon the Suit (2022)
steven is insufferable at times but it's still a great episode
Steven's accent is still terrible but this episode is a huge improvement from the last one. We see more of Layla, Marc and Khonshu and it seems we'll be seeing more of them in the future. And overall this episode is just great. Well paced and the cgi is better.
One thing tho, it seems like they are setting up the usual marvel third act. It's either Ethan Hawke wears a black suit and fights moon knight or the stupid cgi monster mash. Which is so fkin predictable at this point that I really hope to be proven wrong. Please let this be a breath of fresh air. This has been so good so far.
Other than that, great episode!
Moon Knight: The Goldfish Problem (2022)
a good start
Pretty good first episode. There's some janky cgi and terrible dialogues but I think the concept is interesting enough that I can just ignore that. Besides, it's only the first episode. I'm also a bit skeptical with Oscar's accent while watching the trailer but now I think his accent isn't that bad after watching the show. Still kinda awkward but passable. Ethan Hawke is great as always.
Btw I really hope disney toned down their licensed songs a little bit next time. I get it you can afford licensed songs. It's nice if you can stfu once in awhile.
Peacemaker (2022)
John Cena built like Minecraft Steve
I enjoy it so far although I did have some issue with it. I never like the way Gunn wrote comedy scene. It was funny at first and then he started to go a little to long with the punchline. Sometimes more than a little. And the worst part is it happens multiple times in an episode and by episode 4 I just go along with it because that's just how he likes to write the scene. It was unbearable in gotg 2 and he bring it here. And some of the dialogues felt like it was ripped straight out of a twitter threads.
Gunn writing was also a bit of a hit or miss. Sometimes you have an awesome scene and then it ended abruptly. Or go for a little too long. Also man this guy loves licensed rock songs and a scene of guys impersonating the singer. Other than that I think the show is pretty solid. I'm lying if I said I don't enjoy it. It's funny in a deranged kind of way. Performances for the most part is great especially Cena. He's my favourite part of the movie and I'm glad he's here more. One thing that I always like about this show and it's very consistent about it is how it never really take itself too seriously. I love how one of the side plot was literally abandoned by eps 6 and the story just goes crazy from there. Overall I enjoyed the hell out of it. The jokes and the licensed rock songs is a little too much at times and some of the dialogues is wee bit cringe but at its core Peacemaker is a fun, r-rated superhero shows that don't afraid to be what it wanted to be even though some of it might not landed quite as smoothly.
Reacher (2022)
pretty good
Nothing to write home about but it serves it purpose. What it was intended to be. Although some of the acting is a bit weak and the reveal is just meh. But I think Alan is fantastic as Jack. I can't speak for the books fans but compared to Tom's version he's so much better in look and overall mannerism. One thing that I always like about Jack Reacher is that he's smart and actually solving problems. Which I find quite refreshing.
The Martian (2015)
the very likable Matt Damon
I don't want to give it 10/10 but when I think about it there's nothing I hate about this movie. The characters is likable. Performances is great. And it's just a very enjoyable movie to sit through. Fun or enjoyable might be a poor choice of words to describe this movie considering what the character been through but still it's just a very well made movie that I can't help myself but smile at a certain part of this movie. I can't believe it took me 6 years to finally watch it.
Army of the Dead (2021)
not great. like at all
This is a proof that Zack Snyder isn't a genius some people make him out to be. I love his movies including Watchmen and BvS ultimate edition but this is not it. It's messy, stupid and just ugly to look at. Idk what sane person thought it was a good idea to focus the camera on objects other than characters in the middle of conversation. And he does it almost 90% of the shots like it was some kind of revolutionary cinematography. The characters is extremely unlikable. The most interesting character is someone that wasn't even there during the filming. Watching someone fingering their hairy buthole is more interesting than this obnoxious, pretentious movie.
Eternals (2021)
weird movie to say the least
I love this movie the first time I watched it but the more I think about it the more I realized how stupid it is. First of all the first hour is hard to sit through with clumsy editing and terrible pacing but then it picks up surprisingly well after Druig forest fight.
Exposition is definitely the worse part of this movie and adding new villain just 40 mins before the movie ends didn't help the pacing either. One of the villain was sidelined (and I'm pretty sure the writers don't even bother giving him a name) for the sake of having another villain makes you wonder why they even bother with having multiple villains in the first place. And that's just the villains problem. There's still 10 new main characters that makes everything much worse.
But still I think it have a great ending and against all odds, makes me excited to see what they have in store for a sequel. It's a weird movie but I'm glad marvel actually tried something different this time despite the results.
Black Widow (2021)
filler movie that's just plain unnecessary
I would've never imagined to see a day where I watched a movie with no redeeming factors. It's boring, filled with stupid plots and there's nothing in this movie that I've never seen before. The high point of this movie is debris falling from the sky.
Death Proof (2007)
A girl getting her face grind by a car is a high point of this movie
Arguably tarantino worse works. I like the looks of it but even that wasn't carry on till the end of the movie. The first 10 minutes is rough to sit through and considering this is tarantino flicks that says a lot. The violence is satisfying but that's like the only redeeming factors that happens in the middle of the movie.
Pretty bad and prolly the only QT movie that I'll only watched once.
Nebraska (2013)
mundane but never boring
Although the creative choice to make it in b&w is prolly the most interesting thing about this movie, Nebraska is still a joy to sit through. It's mundane but never boring and it's potrayal of old people is as honest as it can be. Will Forte and Bruce Dern was great but June Squibb is definitely a surprise.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Tarantino dialogue p*rn!
With what QT can't do with big action set pieces he pays it off with snappy dialogue and great performances. It's crazy how many talented actors are in this low budget debut. And I love that each of them brings life to their characters with little screen time that they had. Michael Madsen is definitely a delight (in a deranged kind of way) but Steve Buscemi is a surprised for me.
