Warning: Spoilers
Good thriller. the mark of a good thriller is that it makes you feel uneasy watching it. Samuel L. Jackson was terrific as Abel. His seething hatred came through with a lot of realism. The interracial couple seemed a little too clueless to be believed. What were they thinking when they decided to "christen the pool" in full view of the neighbor's window? When soon after the neighbor kids eagerly swam in it, I thought, "Ewwww - no way!" Drain it first, thank you. Good, well-paced thriller, but the characterization of the twenty-something couple should have been shored up more. The way he showed anger at his wife for getting pregnant was over the top - it made it hard to connect with them. Her lack of emotion at his outburst seemed restrained; not credible. Jackson saved the movie with an Oscar-worthy performance. The bachelor party scene was way too tame. The strippers had their clothes on at 3am?? Not at the bachelor parties I went to. Also, that thing about taking mints and using Purell on your hands to cover up smoking....everyone knows cigarette smoke clings to your clothes.
