Similar in Style to the Films of Alfred Hitchcock
14 October 2021
While in the process of psychotherapy "Dr. Isaac Barr" (Richard Gere) becomes alarmed by some of the things his patient "Diana Baylor" (Uma Thurman) has related to him. So when she suggests that he talk to her sister "Heather Evans" (Kim Basinger) to gather more information on her troubled childhood he reluctantly arranges a between the two of them. To his surprise, he quickly becomes enamored with her and not long afterward the two of them sleep with one another. Aside from being somewhat unethical on his part, things become even more problematic due to the fact that Heather happens to be married to a rich gangster named "Jimmy Evans" (Eric Roberts) who is both abusive and possessive at the same time. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say this was a decent neo-noir film which benefited from an interesting plot and some solid acting on the part of everyone concerned. Admittedly, some of the scenes bore a striking resemblance to a few of Alfred Hitchcock's films from the past but even so I enjoyed this movie for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
