Moulin rouge, in technicolor! José ferrer as the artist lautrec, who comes to the shows nightly. And falls for marie. Marie is played by collette marchand, although she is listed farther down in the credits. This version spends more time on lautrec, his earlier life, his parents, and early loves. His painting! Anyone who has ever heard the gabors speak will know right off that zsa zsa's voice is being dubbed when jane sings at the night club. You'll also recognize peter cushing... he was in star wars, and so many horror films. It's all pretty good! We see some of Lautrec's paintings of people seen at the paris night clubs. Based on the book by pierre la mure and directed by john huston. It won two oscars...set decoration and best costumes.and nominated for a bunch more. It's perfectly fine, but the whole time, I just can't stop chuckling at zsa zsa gabor as jane. Zsa zsa always stole the show where-ever she went! The sisters gabor came to the united states in the 1940s, and in the 1950s, started appearing on film and television. Kind of a strange ending to the film, but critics blame it on the film code, still barely in force at the time.
