Obvious story with standard plot elements but nothing new.

`First to Go' is the story of a weekend on Catalina. Five boyhood friends, now in their 20's are reunited but troubled by the fact that one of them has decided to take the plunge and get married. When they learn that the fiancé has been invited to the island to meet them the other four make it their mission to end the relationship. She turns out to be more than they bargained for and in the end they all agree that all things must end.

Overall this is film is watchable but no great movie. The men do cover all the major arche-types and are easy on the eyes but the dialogue is uninspired and there is no character development beyond the obvious.

A promising start that proceeds to do nothing but disappoint
se7en1989 August 1999
the film begins as a film for men to watch with men. a group of mates go away for the weekend, supposed to be just men. but when one of the boys insists on bringing his fiancee that is when the troubles starts. unfortunately the film moves from a film for the boys to a film that doesnt quite seem to be for anyone. i was very disappointed with this film and cant imagine who the film's core audience was supposed to be. if only the start of the movie was to be a sign of things to come. still if you are looking for a film with some, i stress some good moments and the occasional good line this may be for you. personally it wasnt quite my cup of tea.

He went, anyway

This movie seemed like it was written by someone who had seen too many "spring break" movies of the 80's, yet they wanted to do something "serious" -- no gratuitous sex/nudity, etc.

Honestly, the only reason I watched this movie was because Mark Harmon was in it - for like 3 scenes. I always wonder why celebrities would appear in such bad movies. Hard to believe that Mark Harmon is THAT hard up for work. Maybe this was a favor to someone?

Like watching a car wreck

This movie comes on cable every once in a while, and I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame. I know it's bad for me, and I still can't stop. The characters are one-dimensional and annoying, young people don't really talk like this ("Cab service on this island leaves something to be desired" -- aaugh!), and scenes obviously written to be hip and smart alecky come off as forced and trite. Stuff like this is enough to get me to swear off indies forever.

This movie showed how men Hate to lose their friends to women. This Movie is about a group of guys whom decide to go off to an island for a traditional "All Men Weekend" When one of them decides to bring his fiancee. His friends don't like the idea of him getting married so they decide to dig up on her past and ruin her relationship with their friend. The movie demonstrates the way men react to their friends getting married (Believe me I have been through it). It was a very Entertaining movie to watch.
