A Dick Van Dyke Show scenario without "The Dick Van Dyke Show" cast
JordanThomasHall25 October 2016
Dave (Joby Baker) uses his wife Linda (Julie Parrish) as a source for jokes on his morning radio program. She begins to take offense when she thinks people now view her as a "blabbermouth", "cheap", and "dimwitted". This episode feels as if it was written for Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore as a domestic situation for Rob and Laura Petrie. Of course, the creators and head writers of this series are the same as "The Dick Van Dyke Show". The premise is quite similar to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" episode "The Curious Thing About Women". Along those same lines, the record that Larry (Ronnie Schell) plays, "Mimitie Mama with Billy and the Bing Bongs", is the same that Rob Petrie plays at the radio station in the hilarious "100 Terrible Hours". (At this same moment of the episode, look closely to the album cover displayed next to Larry. It reads "Jim Nabors Sings"- a nod to Schell's buddy Jim Nabors who was the title character of "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C" on which Schell played "Duke" before and after "Good Morning, World".) Another instance occurs when they mention having their listeners come up with a new name for succotash; this occurred in The Dick Van Dyke Show as well with a new name for butter. Knowing Carl Reiner, that is assuredly his joke on both series. In essence, this is a Dick Van Dyke Show scenario without "The Dick Van Dyke Show" cast- - and you're constantly aware of it while watching.
