Manhunt comes across as a precursor to later shows like Secret Army.

The first episode introduces the main characters and set the plot in motion. It opens with RAF pilot Jimmy Briggs (Alfred Lynch) parachuting to safety to some French village before his plane crashes.

The local resistance leader Vincent (Peter Barkworth) acts like a tinpot Stalin with a shoot first and ask questions later policy.

In his sights is Nina (Cyd Hayman) who escaped from Paris when a resistance meeting was broken up by the Nazis.

Fleeing to the village where Vincent calls the shots. She is ordered to be shot until Jimmy intervenes, who happened to be hiding nearby and listening to Vincent's lunacy. Calling Nina weak and a liability.

Only for Vincent wanting to execute him until Jimmy's identity is verified by a radio message from Britain. They also want Nina sent to Britain. She has all the details of people in the resistance network in the Paris area.

The program is about the three people escaping from the Nazis who are searching for them. Luckily one man sacrifices himself in order to facilitate their escape.

The first episode does well with the paranoia. Vincent is infected by it, his father was once labelled as a collaborator. Denise the wife of Robespierre, the resistance radio operator is scared stiff that her husband would be discovered. Even attempting to destroy his radio at one point.
