Patricia Heaton obviously sent out a distress call to old pal from 'The Middle' Jane Kaczmarek, who guests here, because there's no doubt that this show was struggling.
The main story, involving Kaczmarek as an old teaching colleague of Heaton's Carol is decent enough, but it's let down by some weak writing, and the problem I've had from the off - Carol is annoying.
The Daniel/Caleb B story isn't great - standard sitcom stuff that we've seen done better elsewhere.
The writers keep trying to have this show slow down for a tender 'aww' moment, it happens in both stories here, but because the characters (other than Carol perhaps) are so two dimensional they never really land.
Does Dr Jacobs really add anything - no! Where's Ashley Tisdale's character - who knows?!
