Love Anne Hathaway but Story... MEH
belfusion19 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The only call for me on this nondescript Black Mirror aim was Anne Hathaway. And the only thing that kept me riveted was her performance.. . She's truly incredible as an actress.

The problem for me was that the script was flawed and the idea far too simple.

She's arguing with her future and past selves, but you can't help but see 3 teen sisters arguing over who took the longest shower. I didn't buy the future or the past Anne's, but I did connect with her present self. She's truly incredible.. Its a shame the script was really poor.

Again, I only watched this because of Anne Hathaway, because Interstellar was next level, iconic kind of stuff.

Maybe the problem is that she'll never live up to that stellar performance.

Wanting to go into the future to resolve conflict, yet seeing the benefits of going back into the past to stay in the present.
blanbrn23 May 2021
This episode from "Amazon Prime Video's" new sci fi series "Solos" called "Leah" is one interesting one that looks at drama and inner conflict and turmoil involving one lady's life. Anne Hathaway stars as Leah a lonely yet determined bright scientist physicist type who lives tucked away in her basement with all of the latest tools, instruments, contraptions, and high tech equipment to help get her thru the modern world. And Leah has discovered time travel she clearly wants to go into the future, however a current issue that involves her dealing with a sick mom weighs on her. It's like her wanting and motivations of going into the future comes into question as she sees two different versions of herself on her pull up screens. One gives her a cold stark glimpse at her in the future, while the past version of Leah makes her realize truth and love causing her to stay in the present tense. As it's clear Leah gets another chance to live the past to improve her present. Overall well written catchy like drama sci fi like episode that puts a tease on future time travel only spinning with a message of real truth that proves live in the moment first and foremost.

Loved it
mingab28 May 2021
Loved this episode especially because Anne Hathaway brilliantly brought it to life, emotions effectively ranging from quiet loving misery while talking to her mom, to her manic dialogue with her past and future selves, and finally the loving acceptance of the fate she finally chose which was far from her original one.

The first episode, Leah, is marred by a severe concept conflict.
doubtitall22 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
2024 Leah wants to jump forward 5 years to avoid having to deal with the next 5 years of her mother dying so horribly.

2029 Leah did that. Now she feels buried in guilt for having abandoned her mother, and she wants to stop 2024 Leah from doing the same thing. That way she can get on with her life knowing in another reality 2024 is taking care of her mother.

That is the "multiverse" time travel concept. If something changes, either another universe is born or you've switched to another possible universe, but both universes continue to exist.

That was the whole point of 2029 Leah talking to 2024 Leah.

But then when 2024 Leah wants to change the future for 2019 Leah, 2029 Leah screams bloody murder that 2024 Leah will be erasing the universe 2024 and 2029 live in.

That is the opposite of the multiverse time travel concept.

This is not a little thing. It's the whole story. Someone, anyone, should have caught this mistake.

Now of course people who watch science fiction only for the drama and the character development, and who don't really give a rip if the story makes any sense at all, will think this is unimportant.

Would you people who don't care about the science fiction please stop watching science fiction? Even better, would you please stop making this corrupt kind of Cargo Cult version of it?

*Criminally* underrated. Genius work by Anne Hathaway
BenedictCummingham27 April 2023
This episode is about beating yourself up for being human. Watching this was extremely cathartic. I've watched this episode three times since its release. This episode will break your heart. I cry tears of empathy for 50% of the shows runtime. Hathaway slays it in *every moment* of this episode. It's not just good. It's great. I'm a big Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Black Mirror fan. If this was an Outer Limits, Black Mirror, or Twilight Zone episode I'd rank it #1. It's great. #1. If you enjoyed this episode's sci-fi elements also try: Primer (2004), Lightyear (2022), Predestination (2014). A fantastic episode well worth the watch. Directed by Zach Braff.

Pure Suffer

Warning: Spoilers
They get the whole time travel thing wrong. It just doesn't work like that. And it's really painful to tolerate an obvious mistake.

The only thing that made me stay and finish the episode was the shaking laundry machine. I just wanted to see if that lil boi would explode or something.

Made it through 25 mins. Dire
mwileman-819-22047221 May 2021
Oh dear. What tedium. The actor is nothing like a genius physicist, behaving more like a screaming desperate housewife. 'Hey girl'.

It's awful. Designed to appeal to teenage girls. If that's your thing, great. If you're looking for a good script, believability and great film making, look elsewhere.

Sci fy access to some acting greats This is all about the actors and their craft . It was very brave and each to take on a project for such a discerning crowd - some excellent moments and tremendous acting . This is not a twilight zone-esquires, action or mind bending thriller. They are straight up Solo short dramas with a sci fy twist.

If you'd like to see Hathaway shrieking non stop for an hour
terrylarosa21 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Then this your dream episode. She's a shrill harpy with not one but three immensely annoying characters. The ep gets a little interesting in the last 5 minutes but by then your'e so nauseated by her constant screaming; that it makes little impact. Start with the next ep with Mackie's wonderfully, emotional performance and get back to this one after taking some Valium.

Anne Hathaway nailed it!

This starts as her obsession with time travel further unravelling the real reason and finally the choice she makes. Simply brilliant and beautiful..

This is one of the worst things I've ever watched. Anne Hathaway is terrible. It's literally just Anne Hathaway talking to herself.

Waste of time, terrible episode
sdimcg25 August 2021
What a terrible episode to kick of the series. Fortunately I watched the next one and Anthony Mackie redeemed it. This first one was poorly acted, poorly written and just not good. Substituting shrieking and foul language for well written dialogue is never a good choice.

Really horrible
Batree22 May 2021
This episode was a train wreck. Anne Hathaway used to be a much better actress. The constant shrieks and screams was disconcerting. This solo certainly one where misery loves its own same company.

Too much screaming , swearing, Valley Girl-ing and special effects errors
sevenhorseshoes27 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I wrote a better version of a similar idea years ago. Hard to believe any of these versions of Leah are bright enough to have "solved" time travel in any way.

15:49, 16:58, 16:14 future and or past Leah's arms go outside of their monitors.

Love Zach and Anne, but they both should have spotted the flaws in this script. And I don't think it's that "original" an idea for Amazon.

Appaling overacting
Aus196416 July 2021
While the timebending storyline holds some interest, the overacting of the character detracted from my enjoyment. It felt like a clip from an actor's resume, where the actor showed how many extreme emotions she could act out in a short duration. There is no subtlety or finesse of emotional characterisation here - it is over the top and unbelievable.

Are we entertained?
bduke-83-5143281 June 2021

No.

Hathaway delivers the most unauthentic brilliant scientist in the history of all media ever, now and in the future. And then we're supposed to feel something for the dying mom story? Pffft. Get over yourself Zachary Braffery.

Sci-Fi Films for David Weil to Watch
machina2217 June 2021
Since the writer of this show is apparently unaware of any great sci-fi films with female leads, and decided to focus on this 'fact' in his poorly-written, dull monologue of a show, I thought I'd recommend some for him:

  • Alien
  • Aliens
  • Alien 3
  • Alien Resurrection
  • Gravity
  • Triangle
  • Prospect
  • Never Let Me Go
  • Lucy
  • Arrival
  • The Invasion
  • The Host
  • I Am Mother
  • Blindness
  • Divergent
  • The Hunger Games
  • Underworld
  • Underworld: Evolution
  • Underworld: Awakening
  • Underworld: Blood Wars
  • Æon Flux
  • The Forgotten
  • Resident Evil
  • Resident Evil: Apocalypse
  • Resident Evil: Extinction
  • The Cell
  • Before I Fall
  • Sliding Doors
  • The Girl with All the Gifts
  • Mortal Engines
  • The Descent
  • Inside Out
  • Annihilation

There are also, of course, dozens more with strong female characters who aren't the leads, including the Terminator series, 28 Days Later, The Matrix, Inception (at the time...), Sunshine, Edge of Tomorrow, Serenity, Zombieland, the X-Files movies, Mad Max: Fury Road, Let the Right One In, Valerian, Chaos Walking, The Addams Family, The Island, and Interstellar.

Please watch some of them, Mr. Weil - they might inspire you to make a better sci-fi show.

Time Travel
gbyzp10 September 2021
I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from watching this episode.

It is awful.

A Complete Waste of time.

Hathaway should stick to her depth - cookie cutter - disposable romantic comedies.
