Tom Selleck recently told USA Today that he relied on Matthew Perry for line readings during the filming of one “Friends” episode during the NBC sitcom’s second season. The “Magnum P.I.” favorite was a recurring guest star on “Friends” as Richard Burke, an ophthalmologist who becomes Monica’s older love interest despite being friends with her parents. In one episode, Richard tries to act younger by using Chander (Perry) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc) as examples.
“We had this role reversal thing going, where [Richard] tried to be like them, and them like me,” Selleck said, remembering that he had difficulty nailing the way Perry would make jokes fly with his trademark sarcastic line readings.
One bit of dialogue that was tripping Selleck up was a line about Richard’s football skills delivered with the sarcasm of Chandler. The line read as followed: “Could that shot be any prettier?”

Reina Hardesty (The Secret Art of Human Flight) has joined the cast of Prime Video’s Butterfly opposite Daniel Dae Kim.
Hardesty will portray Rebecca, a charismatic, unpredictable assassin. Orphaned (or so she thought) at the age of 13, she learned to cope with her pain and loneliness by distancing herself from difficult emotions, applying a mental tourniquet to the part of her that held love and empathy. Over time, she’s developed a hard shell, which is a very useful trait in her line of work. But Rebecca isn’t a grizzled, stoic hitman. She’s shiny and charming and fun to watch, leaping to life with every hit of adrenaline.
The six-episode series is described as a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. Butterfly is based on the Boom! Studios graphic novel series created by Arash Amel, written by Amel and Marguerite Bennett,...

It’s a classic rom-com trope. A couple gets together for a casual hookup with little sign of chemistry, sometimes outright friction, and hostility. They find they fail to agree on anything, and their personalities clash. Eventually, after a seemingly never-ending rollercoaster of ups and downs, they find their feelings for each other altering. They’re both struck by Cupid’s arrow! These stories may have emanated from some screenwriter’s imagination, but there’s a reason for plots consistently flowing along these lines. Romantic movies are avidly watched because they reflect reality – audiences can’t get enough stories about casual affairs gaining momentum, and blossoming into a stronger bond. Films are also reflecting the reality of so many singles these days, whose default method of looking for hook up opportunities is to rely on online apps or websites. On these virtual platforms, they’ll be guaranteed access to a treasure trove of talent,...

"Friends" star Matthew Perry acted alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood before his tragic death on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54. Perry's roles -- primarily in comedies -- set the tone for his sprawling career. In one of these appearances, he starred alongside an actor whom he would later praise for his sheer coolness.
Perry starred alongside Bruce Willis in "The Whole Nine Yards," a 2000 action-comedy flick that also starred Amanda Peet and Michael Clarke Duncan. Perry played Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky, a dentist who is surprised to learn that his new neighbor is contract killer Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Willis). This wouldn't be the only time the duo would star alongside each other, however, as Willis would also land a guest role in "Friends" that would earn him an Emmy in 2000.
The two actors developed a strong relationship during their time starring opposite one another in the film and on "Friends.

[This story contains major spoilers to the finale of Fatal Attraction.]
The ending to Fatal Attraction has been the topic of much debate in the decades since the classic film first released in 1987. Glenn Close, who starred as villain Alex Forrest, has spoken out about the ways she feels the movie failed her character; and it was revealed in recent years that the studio retooled the film’s ending, despite Close advocating for the original treatment.
All of that when looking back at the film in modern-day was precisely why showrunner Alexandra Cunningham initially had hesitations about reimagining the story for TV. But, when speaking freely about the entire series, Cunningham revealed that she ultimately seized the opportunity because she wanted to not only expand Alex’s perspective as the role is taken on by Lizzy Caplan, but also explore the effects on Ellen (Alyssa Jirrels), the daughter of Dan and Beth Gallagher, who are played by Joshua Jackson...

Nina Ruscio remembers seeing the blockbuster psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” when it was released in 1987 and the controversy that followed it, the “deep psychic weight” and “issues of misogyny and mental health” that surrounded the hit about marriage and infidelity that starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer. “It crossed a lot of the wires of psychic intensity at the time,” she recalls. So when the opportunity arose for Ruscio to serve as the production designer on the new eight-part “Fatal Attraction” reboot for Paramount+, she knew that if she signed on, there was some risk she’d find herself in the middle of a new firestorm. But she trusted her instincts in saying yes.
“I was attracted to (showrunner) Alexandra Cunningham’s intention to actually reset the story in a contemporary time look and at Alex’s reasons for her circumstance,” Ruscio says, “and Dan’s for his,...

Few women in cinematic history have been vilified so much as Alex Forrest. Played by Glenn Close, this wild and seductive career woman terrorizes her married lover, Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), after a weekend fling in the mother of all erotic thrillers "Fatal Attraction." The original Alex is the epitome of a femme fatale and embodies the saying, "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Released in 1987, Adrian Lyne's film has been reevaluated through the lens of modern sexual politics, with a much more sympathetic reappraisal of Alex's character and a refusal to see Dan as the story's hapless victim. A reboot from creators Kevin J. Hynes and Alexandra Cunningham attempts to reckon with this complicated legacy in an eight-part series starring Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson as the toxic lovers.

Amanda Peet and David Benioff have been together for over two decades. The pair met in 2002 when Peet was just a budding actor and Benioff was kickstarting his career as a screenwriter, according to The Sun. Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction series shows us the first embers of an illicit affair… but it also shows us the damage it can cause once it catches fire.
Sunday’s premiere opens with former lawyer Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) sporting a scraggly beard and facing a parole board after spending 15 years in prison for second-degree murder. He shares his deep remorse for killing a woman named Alex Forrest: “I chose to lose control. I chose to take her life.” All he wants is to be able to reconnect with his family — and his daughter Ellen (Alyssa Jirrels) is in the room watching.

Is it possible to elevate and modernize a cult classic film?
Fatal Attraction attempts to do just that, taking an iconic '80s thriller and giving it more depth and nuance, expanding on a universe we're familiar with, grounding it, and bringing it close to home.
The slow burn quality of Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 1 folds into the groundwork laid in Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 2. Then it does something entirely unexpected and necessary when we finally get what the movie lacked in Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 3, Alex's perspective.
In doing so, in its first three installments, this series reshapes the narrative in a refreshing way that stands the test of time, melding a family drama with a psychological thriller and a murder mystery in one.
The series attempts to exchange fun caricatures for evocative characters, borrowing from the film while still setting itself apart from it, knowing the natural inclination...

Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) is an attorney on the cusp of a significant promotion. He's happily married to Beth (Amanda Peet), and the couple has a lovely daughter, Ellen.
But as bright as Dan's life seems on the outside, he's riddled with self-doubt when an opportunity slips through his fingers, and he begins looking outside of his family for validation.
Dan finds that validation in Alex Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), a coworker with an understanding of his professional pressures because she faces the same.

A curious Anne Archer lifts the lid off of a boiling pot only to discover the body of her young daughter’s mangled and bloated bunny. It’s a film scene that still echoes in the minds of cinephiles and physiological thriller enthusiasts alike. However, unlike the 1987 film starring Archer, Michael Douglas and the incomparable Glenn Close, Paramount+’s new series, “Fatal Attraction,” is void of boiled mammals. What it does have is a more intricately fleshed-out narrative of a pompous and ambitious district attorney Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson), whose tawdry affair with a young woman, Alexandra Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), quickly spirals out of his control.
“Dirty John” creator Alexandra Cunningham and writer Kevin J. Hynes’ series opens in the present day in Los Angeles, with a frazzled and bearded Dan pleading his case for parole. He’s served 15 years for killing Alex, a crime he attests to, before being granted his freedom.

The reshot ending of Adrian Lyne’s 1987 Fatal Attraction is one of the most successful blunders in Hollywood history.
Sure, turning Glenn Close’s scorned Alex Forrest into a nearly unkillable slasher villain undermined anything that was thematically interesting about the character and the movie. But it also produced a rousing climax that left bloodthirsty audiences cheering and helped make Fatal Attraction a blockbuster.
The conclusion so violated the setup of James Dearden’s script that it isn’t a surprise we’re being treated to a long-form re-conception of Fatal Attraction; it’s a surprise that it took so long.
“There’s only one way for something to end,” Alex (Lizzy Caplan) asserts in the eighth and final episode of Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction. “There’s only one decision to make. How are you going to get to that ending?”
Unfortunately, for all of that certitude, the new ending...

Plot: A deep-dive reimagining of the classic 80’s thriller, exploring timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.
Review: As Paramount continues to mine its existing franchises and intellectual property for material to populate its streaming service, we will find unique approaches to retelling classic and iconic stories. Many will not be pleased to see their favorite films updated with new casts and creative angles, whether prequels, sequels, or remakes. Even the cast and creative team behind Fatal Attraction know it’s a tall task to remake the hit 1987 film as a Paramount+ series, and admit to all having hesitations when first hearing the pitch.
“My first thought was, ‘Man that’s crazy, why would you want to do that?'” recalled Joshua Jackson, who takes over the Dan Gallagher role from Michael Douglas; Lizzy Caplan, who plays Glenn Close’s Alex Forrest role, also questioned, “Why would you do that? It’s perfect.”
But after conversations with showrunner Alex Cunningham (who herself almost turned down the job when Paramount asked her to find a new way to explore the film), the two were hooked by the new focus on marriage, infidelity and mental health that the original did not explore as deeply. In the series Dan is married (to Amanda Peet’s Beth) and has an affair with Alex,...

Fatal Attraction was a huge box office hit back in 1987, but it didn’t age all that well, with Glenn Close’s spurned mistress turning into a crazed horror movie villain intent on hacking her former lover to bits. Paramount+’s new series adaptation — debuting this Sunday; I’ve seen the first four episodes — aims to right that wrong by reexamining the central affair through modern eyes and showing us there’s more to the story. It’s an intriguing idea, but unfortunately, the misguided revamp only manages to lose what made this story exciting in the first place. The...

The highest-grossing film of 1987 worldwide, the original “Fatal Attraction” served as a cautionary tale against casual infidelity, showing how even a seemingly innocuous fling can upend someone’s entire life. Lawyer Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) has a steamy weekend hookup with publishing exec Alex Forrest (Glenn Close), which derails in the most horrific way imaginable when she becomes obsessed with him, putting his entire family in jeopardy. (Close maintains that people told her for years afterward that the movie saved their marriage.)
In a TV landscape overrun with prequels, sequels and reboots, the source material for Paramount Plus’ new “Fatal Attraction” series proves surprisingly fertile. The show’s eight episodes provide plenty of time for the story to expand past paranoia, into the more interesting question of why Alex Forrest became so obsessive in the first place — not to mention why Dan, apparently a happy family man, tumbled from fidelity so easily.

Anticipation was at boiling point at Canneseries on Tuesday, with the audience – and celebrity guests – storming the pink carpet for the international premiere of Paramount+ new offering “Fatal Attraction,” shown at the fest out of competition.
Written by Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes, the eight-episode series, now brought into the New York legal world, stars Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson as doomed lovers Alex Forrest and Dan Gallagher, whose exciting extramarital tryst quickly turns sour.
Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels – cast as Jackson’s daughter, Ellen Gallagher – Toby Huss, Reno Wilson and Brian Goodman are also featured, while Paramount Television Studios and Amblin Television produce.
“What am I hoping to see tonight? First of all, I am waiting for the rabbit. Where, when, how? We are all wondering about that,” Joey Soloway told Variety before the screening.
