Exclusive: 20th Century Fox has acquired an untitled action adventure pitch that will be scripted by Lost's Carlton Cuse for Hugh Jackman to star in and Shawn Levy to direct. Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment banner will produce. While Cuse's scripting credits include two Lethal Weapon sequels and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, this is the first feature script he's writing since Lost ended its run. Cuse was the drama's longtime show runner and executive producer. Levy and Jackman just teamed for DreamWorks in Real Steel, which Disney will release on October 7. Both have deep ties to Fox. Levy's 21 Laps is based there, and Jackman's Seed Productions had a Fox deal until he and partner John Palermo decided to split so Jackman could focus on acting. Jackman is currently prepping to star in The Wolverine, the sequel to the X-Men spinoff that is being directed by Oscar-nominated Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky.

Remember View-Master, the Fisher-Price toy with those little 3D picture discs of mountains, rivers and caverns that you could rotate through a viewfinder? Well, DreamWorks is in negotiations to acquire movie rights to the toy from Mattel (which owns Fisher-Price) and has asked Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to do some "Transformers"-style magic on it.
Brad Caleb Kane, who worked as a writer-producer on the duo's Fox series "Fringe," is on board to write the screenplay. Kurtzman and Orci would produce.
Story specifics are being kept under wraps, though Kane, who tweeted his involvement during the holiday weekend, said, "It'll be like the old '80s Amblin movies: 'Goonies,' 'Young Sherlock' ... in that vein." That post has been taken down. Amblin-style movies has been the modus operandi of the Kurtzman-Orci banner.
DreamWorks is hoping to make a family-friendly movie.

Newly installed Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman is wasting no time.
In his first acquisition since moving into his new position a week ago -- and in the midst of the blockbuster worldwide opening of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- Goodman has picked up an untitled action-comedy pitch from screenwriter Shane Salerno ("Armageddon").
"Transformers" co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing along with David Ellison's Skydance Prods.
The project is inspired by Marc Weingarten's recent Salon.com article, "License to Steal," about super repo men who reclaim high-end jets and boats from rich but delinquent (and often hostile) clientele. Paramount exec VP of production David Beaubaire brought in the pitch, which had garnered attention from several directors.
"We're thrilled to be working with Shane, who's a wildly inventive and talented creator," said Kurtzman and Orci. "His passion was clear the minute he started telling his story.

David Ayer has been hired to write the screenplay for the DreamWorks Studios film "Deep Sea Cowboys."
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing through their K/O Prods., Holly Bario and Jonathan Eirich are overseeing for the studio, and Pete Chiarelli and Steven Puri are overseeing for K/O.
Ayer's script will be based on Joshua Davis' article in Wired last year about a salvage crew attempting to save a capsized Japanese cargo ship. The real-time action scenario will explore how a tightknit crew races to beat the clock and potential drowning to save the ship's dangerous cargo and claim its reward.
"It's only the most dangerous thing you could possibly do because a sinking ship is like a ticking bomb," Kurtzman said. "You have to work your way through an incredibly complicated Rube Goldberg series of problems in 12 hours, or you're dead."
