International sales agency the Playmaker has signed a deal with Blue Finch Film Releasing to distribute the one-shot horror film “Home Sweet Home — Where Evil Lives” in the U.K. and Ireland.
Thomas Sieben’s film, which made its world premiere in August at FrightFest in London, has its market premiere at AFM. The film, which is produced by “Resident Evil””” studio Constantin Film, will also screen at Imagine Fantastic Film Festival in Amsterdam and Splat! FilmFest in Warsaw.
In the film, Maria, a newlywed and pregnant, must uncover the dark secrets of her husband’s family, and escape their cursed house before the sinister forces consume her and her unborn child.

Picture Tree Intl. has picked up international sales duties on “Manta Manta: Legacy,” directed by and starring Til Schweiger. The action comedy is a sequel to the first “Manta, Manta” feature film from 1991, with a market premiere for both movies planned at the Cannes Film Market.
Released by Constantin Film Verleih on March 30, “Manta Manta: Legacy” has reached over 800,000 admissions and was the number one movie in Germany in its opening week.

Despite the virtual nature of the EFM, the company has taken additional office space at the Marriott Hotel in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz.
“Love Thing,” which also stars Lucie Heinze, Peri Baumeister and Alexandra Maria Lara, is directed and written by Anika Decker, whose last feature “High Society” sold widely. Decker scripted box office successes like “Rabbit Without Ears,” which grossed $85 million.

Decades later, Ludger is confronted with the possibility of his secret Stasi past coming to light.

German sales outfit Global Screen has picked up two high-profile completed titles from Constantin FIlm: Marco Kreuzpaintner’s courtroom thriller The Collini Case, and Sönke Wortmann’s hit comedy How About Adolf? ahead of the European Film Market next month.
The Collini Case is based on Ferdinand von Schirach’s novel of the same name about an explosive murder trial. It was a sensation when it was published in Germany in 2011 as it featured a character based on von Schirach’s own infamous grandfather, the leader of the Hitler Youth during the Second World War.

Borat-style comedy has made $22m in Germany.
German box office hit and Adolf Hitler satire Look Who’s Back has been snapped up by Netflix for nearly all territories around the world - except for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan and Taiwan.
The deal, announced by Constantin Film and Beta Cinema, will see the comedy satire premiere on Netflix on April 9.
The movie is based on Timur Vermes‘ bestselling novel, which has been published in more than 40 countries, and became a box office hit in Germany where it has recorded more than 2.4 million admissions and $21.8m (€19.6m) box office since its release in October 2015.

Adapted from Timur Vermes’ best-selling novel, it imagines what would happen if Adolf Hitler woke up in modern-day Berlin.
Beta will introduce the film to buyers at the Afm (Nov 4-11).

Exclusive: Oscar-winning Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky (The Counterfeiters) is to direct Hermann Hesse’s 1930 international bestseller and cult novel Narcissus and Goldmund.
Producers Helge Sasse (Tempest Film) and Christoph Müller (Mythos Film) are in Cannes to meet potential partners for the international project which is set to have a double-digit million Euros budget.
Ruzowitzky, who has just completed shooting the Us thriller Patient Zero in London, is also writing the screenplay for the story with a setting in the late Middle Ages.
Principal photography is set to begin in late summer 2016.
Other novels by Hesse such as Siddharta, Steppenwolf and Demian were adapted by filmmakers in the past for the cinema, with German broadcaster Ard tackling his 1909 novella Die Heimkehr in 2011.

Marco Kreuzpaintner’s (Summer Storm, Trade) latest effort tells the story of a gay hairdresser who falls in love with a female beauty parlor owner.
Kostja Ullmann and Aylin Tezel star alongside Ken Duken, August Zirner and Katja Riemann.
The film is a Summerstorm Entertainment production, in co-production with Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany and in cooperation with Bavaria Film Partners.
Producers are Gabriela Bacher, Christoph Müller and Christian Angermayer of Summerstorm’s parent company Film House Germany.

Chicago – “Young Goethe in Love” is not the sort of title guaranteed to send American audiences to the theater in droves. For one thing, the title sounds too much like “Shakespeare in Love,” though its original German title, “Goethe!” sounds like a giddy musical along the lines of “Oliver!” Perhaps Goethe’s name should’ve been cut from the title altogether and relegated to a snappy tagline like, “Love Can Cometh and Goethe in an Instant.”
Thankfully, a poorly titled and under-marketed cinematic gem can find the audience it deserves with the help of good critical buzz, and here’s hoping that will happen to Philipp Stölzl’s irresistible 2010 period romance upon its DVD realease.
