I feel the need to climb to the top of a mountain and shout at the top of my lungs to watch Legit on Fxx before it falls victim as another show worth your time that couldn’t find its audience in time. It’s smart, edgy, and sweet and comedies like this are few and far between.

If you can't get enough of "The Real Housewives of New York City," you are in luck, as Bravo has turned the ladies into avatars for its new Facebook game. However, the ladies have mixed reactions to the way they have been portrayed.
“I think my character drawing is adorable,” gushed Aviva Drescher. “LuAnn [de Lesseps] got the best drawing, although my avatar looks a lot better than I do first thing in the morning."
Sonja Morgan isn't so happy with her animated character, saying, “I think they got the bits and pieces right, but they put the Countess' classic one-shoulder gown on me and the cap-sleeve Jackie O would be oh so moi! Just add a strand of pearls, and I'll stir the drink and add spice to any party!"
Never shy to speak her mind, Ramona Singer couldn't help but take a swipe at Heather Thomson. "I thought LuAnn looked...

To absolutely no one's surprise, Hollywood has plumbed the vacuous depths of the children's lit market and come up with yet another hopeful franchise. Obviously, author Megan McDonald meant for her girl with the tangled red hair, the so-called "heroine" of the Judy Moody book series, to evoke aspects of both Pippi Longstocking and Ramona Quimby. This adaptation, directed by John Schultz (who helmed the similarly frenetic Aliens in the Attic), manages to stuff a whole lot of turbulent action into this movie despite the fact that there's nothing going on in the process. It's not even loosely controlled -- it's completely uncontrolled and exceedingly loud to boot. For the simple reason that it's not only a very boring movie but also a very shrill one, adults will positively despise Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Kids will tolerate it well enough, but they won't get anything out if it either.

Behold the best movie soundtracks of last year. After what seemed like a sluggish start, 2010 actually turned out to be a pretty decent one for motion picture soundtracks. Not a great one admittedly, with there scarcely being a glut of classic albums as we survey the output of the year just gone from the hindsight-tabulous vantage point of January 2011. But a handful sneaked through to thrill us lucky listeners.
If we’re looking for trends with which to characterise 2010, then two things stand out. Firstly, the sheer importance of music to the entire endeavour of movie-making was underlined for the nth but not final time, with many of the best soundtracks of the year belonging to what were also some of the best films of the year (The Social Network, Black Swan, Monsters). And secondly, that while some of the old guard are delivering increasingly formulaic work (Danny Elfman, I am looking at you.

A film packed with plenty of solid tunes as well as pop culture references, we celebrate the eclectic soundtrack of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World...
The recipient of two excellent four star reviews on this very site, courtesy of Michael and James, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is, without doubt, the geekiest film of the year. And while it's not a film without faults, it's as close to a perfect an adaptation of the source as I could have hoped for.
I had a lot of fun with the film and it blended everything I'm geeky about in a 110 minute film. Given the nature of my weekly column, it's no surprise that music, and specifically movie music, is something I'm quite passionate about and, as more news about the soundtrack surfaced, I got more and more excited.
The wait for the UK release of the soundtrack was rather excruciating, but it was worth it.

The Scott Pilgrim soundtrack. If you’re investing a small portion of your no doubt immensely valuable time reading this then I’m going to make the less than Holmesian deduction that you give two hoots about Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim comic books, or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the Edgar Wright movie based on said comic books, or most probably both. So a degree of familiarity with the property is going to be taken as read, lest I spunk the whole of my 600 words on an Everest of clunky exposition, like some record reviewing Reed Richards.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has been subject of a titanic tug of love between the myriad online movie news outlets, with each one eager to exude the most slobber over every willy-teasing clip/trailer/picture, and each determined to let off the largest hyperbole artillery to demonstrate that no,...

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World week is finally here! Spinner has kindly allowed both the score and the soundtrack to Edgar Wright‘s latest to stream in its entirety. The original score by Nigel Godrich is just beautiful, as it is seamlessly infested with videogame influences. He also had some help by Beck Hansen, Cornelius, Dan Nakamura, Kid Koala, David Campbell, Danny Goffey, Gaz Coombes, Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Joey Waronker, and Gus Seyffert. As for the soundtrack is is completely rockin’ and definitely worth a listen (and many more).

I'm not yet sold on the film -- maybe it's the leet tagline that grates at me ("An epic of epic epicness") -- but with tracks from Beck, Frank Black, T.Rex and The Rolling Stones, at least the soundtrack for "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" is looking really good. The Beachwood Sparks cover of Sade's "By Your Side" is a good time.
The soundtrack is officially out August 10th from Abkco Records, but a new deluxe pre-order was announced on iTunes that includes three Beck bonus tracks, including this one below, called "Summertime," that has Beck playing a his guitar through an air conditioner -- after drinking all the freon out of it. The full soundtrack line-up for Edgar Wright's upcoming movie of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World has now been revealed...

Toronto natives Broken Social Scene and Metric provide previously unreleased material as they provide the music for the bands Crash and the Boys and The Clash at Demonhead, respectively. The comic that Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is based on is, unfortunately, not one of those books with the little musical buttons on the side. So there was no way of knowing, really, what writer Bryan Lee O’Malley was hearing in his head when he came up with the fictional Canadian punk bands that his heroically heroic hero plays in and against whilst fighting some evil exes. But come August 10th we can get a pretty good idea of what he was thinking… unless you don’t think Beck is up to the job.
The playlist for the movie was thrown up on Pitchfork, but Edgar Wright posted it not long after on his own blog. Beck will be providing the musical smarts for Scott Pilgrim’s Sex Bob-bomb, Broken Social Scene will do up the unaligned Crash and the Boys, and the lesser known Metric will rock...

It seems like everybody in the film world is getting excited for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. And it’s hard not to. The trailers seem to capture the tone of the comics perfectly, the clip we’ve seen does the same and it’s directed and co-written by Edgar Wright. It might even make Michael Cera entertaining again, and in this summer of pure crap, it looks like, along with Inception, one of the few chances we’ll have of getting a decent movie in this season.
A heavily discussed aspect of the movie is its soundtrack, which will feature artists such as Beck and Broken Social Scene playing various bands in the film. The track listing can be viewed below, courtesy of Pitchfork (via /Film).

02 Plumtree: “Scott Pilgrim”

If you're a movie fan then there's no doubt you already know about Edgar Wright's upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - the adaptation of the comic book about a Canadian slacker musician who has to defeat his love interest's seven evil exes if he's to win her love... but if you're a music fan you should know about it now because we've just discovered via Pitchfork that it's set to feature one of the hottest soundtracks of the year, so hot that it will perhaps eclipse Eclipse itself.
Most prominently Beck and Broken Social Scene play two of the groups in the battle-of-the-bands that Scott and his musical buddies compete are competing in.
The film also features a score by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich which will be released seperately later this summer.

Yeah, Edgar Wright showed off his cast for Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World in February, but the images all featured the actors hiding behind pictures of their characters. We've gotten a few more since then, but now it's time to see the group side by side. See, Wright showed a framed still on his blog, and then /Film wonderfully Photoshopped it so that it's a dead-on look. From left to right, there's Michael Cera's Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona Flowers, Johnny Simmons' Young Neil, Ellen Wong's Knives Chau, Alison Pill's Kim Pine, and Mark Webber's Stephen Stills.
The upcoming film features an awkward but increasingly kickass Pilgrim who has to fight for the right to Ramona Flowers by defeating all of her evil ex boyfriends with super-spiffy video game moves. And it's all set in Toronto -- in my neighbourhood (spelled with a u here!
