Much like the magicians in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, VFX supervisor Bruce Jones likes creating big reactions. And, also like a magician, Jones appreciates that even simple and small effects can provoke great responses . providing they are believable.. "Magicians usually use a slight of hand to pull off their tricks, which involves a magician getting somebody to focus on a certain area, before using a split second to distract the audience to perform the trick," says Jones. "So in Wonderstone, we made sure that the actors incorporated these same movements. However, in some cases, we exaggerated them, so that the 'flourish' sold the trick, making them look real and captured in camera, although the tricks were actually VFX." One of Jones's favourite effects in the movie involved an imploding building, which happens just after Steve Carell has left a cab...

Like always, Comic Con International is revealing the schedule of events day by day. It certainly makes planning a lot easier. But that's neither here nor there. There's a lot of panels to cover, so let's just get to it. Check out the pertinent film and television panels set for the first two days of the show after the jump.
The first "day" of the show is Preview Night only, so there's only a couple things happening that night:
6:00-9:00 Special Sneak Peek Pilot Screenings: Alcatraz, Person of Interest, The Secret Circle, and Supernatural: The Anime Series—
Comic-Con and Warner Bros. Television proudly continue their annual Preview Night tradition with exclusive world premiere screenings of the pilot episodes of three of the most highly anticipated TV series pilots of the 2011-12 television season — Alcatraz, Person of Interest, and The Secret Circle — as well as Supernatural: The Anime Series,...

We're less than two weeks away from the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, and convention organizers have finally released the schedule for the first day of programing. You can find the full schedule on comic-con.org [1], or after the jump I've listed the film and television highlights, which includes the Masters of the Web panel which I've been invited to be a panelist on (In full disclosure, I've been asked to be on this panel for a few years now, but I've only just recently gotten over my fear of speaking in front of large audiences). It should be a fun panel, and I hear they will be giving away some really cool prizes as well. One of the most memorable aspects of the much-loved (by both critics and fans) but sadly underseen Drag Me To Hell is the ending of Sam Raimi’s supernatural thriller (Spoiler Alert: that conclusion will be discussed heavily in this piece, with photos from the sequence—so if you haven’t seen the film yet, read no further). Even if you see it coming, as some people have claimed to, it’s a hell of a note to end on, and has sent audiences out buzzing.
When it came time to bring this finale to the screen, Raimi (who also scripted the Universal release with his brother Ivan) looked to Academy Award-winning visual FX house Tippett Studios (Cloverfield, Blade II, Starship Troopers), which also ended up contributing to the opening sequence and the moment in which heroine Christine (Alison Lohman) snorts and swallows a fly. Matt Jacobs, who has been...
