The recently-released Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive has hit home with the audience and so has Sikandar Kher’s performance in it. The actor, who plays dual characters in the film, has been receiving a lot of praise for both his roles, as David Dosomething and more so for his performance as the potbellied Punjabi Hollywood producer David Chaddha.
Shubhra Gupta from Indian Express says, “The one actor, hard to recognize under all the make-up, who proves to be a complete funster is Sikandar Kher in a ‘double-role’: as the Yank operative assigned to the Osama job chewing on a broad accent which doesn’t drop, as well as the pot-bellied Hollywood ‘producer’ David Chaddha, he is a hoot.”
Deccan Chronicle mentions, “While watching Sikandar Kher’s performance, you wonder where was this talent hidden all these years. Playing David Chaddha, he pulls off the character with...

Bollywood take note, director Abhishek Sharma’s satire, Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive, will take a swipe at your film industry and won’t shy away from tearing it down — one joke at a time.
“Everybody here is only trained to hear good things — something negative is not tolerated. But in the kind of films I make, I love laughing at myself, and that’s how it should be,” Sharma said in a recent interview.
Enter his latest comedy, a spin-off from the 2010 sleeper hit Tere Bin Laden. Set against the backdrop of terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s presumed death, Sharma wove a comedy about the Us government’s desperation to provide proof of Laden’s mysterious capture and killing.

Satirizing terrorism is as tricky as making molar surgery mirthful. Abhishek Sharma did it once in Tere Bin Laden, then fell flat on his farce with a raunchy sexed-up version of Basu Chatterjee’s Shaukeen. So Sharma is back doing what he thinks he is best at.
Generating titters out of terrorism.
And though it has its ha-hee-hee-ho-ho moments, it is not quite the….errr… blast that it promises to be, mainly because the characters behave as though they are in a stand-up comedy act where every actor must…well, act. So everyone is acting all the time…sometimes double-acting because some of the pointedly parodic people, like Sikandar Kher who plays – don’t laugh – a CIA agent masquerading as a Bollywood film producer – lead double lives, alas, failing to generate double laughter.
Farce is clearly not young Kher’s forte, though what is his forte nobody knows.

Tere Bin Laden: Dead Or Alive actor, Pradhuman Singh, says that fellow co-actor Sikandar Kher is the dark horse of the upcoming film, courtesy of his intriguing double role in it.
“Sikandar is the dark horse of the film. His character is brilliant. He’s playing a white guy and a Punjabi guy; it’s a kind of a double role – the same person, but he changes his appearance,” Pradhuman says.
While he appears with blonde hair and a foreign accent as a white guy, Sikandar Kher, the son of seasoned Indian actress Kirron Kher, and the step-son of actor Anupam Kher, sports a hairy look and a paunch for his Indian Punjabi avatar in the film.
Pradhuman, who famously essayed ‘Noora’ in the 2010 Tere Bin Laden, says he had “unparalleled fun” while working with Sikandar and Manish Paul in the movie’s sequel. “None of them (the actors) had any insecurity in them.

After crossing $500 million worldwide this week, Deadpool heads into its third weekend with sights set on another #1 finish as it will become one of the top five, highest grossing R-rated films of all-time. The weekend's new releases vying for a spot elsewhere in the weekend top ten include Summit's Gods of Egypt, Open Road's Triple 9 and Fox's feel good feature Eddie the Eagle. On the heels of a 57.4% drop last weekend, Deadpool should dip around 52% drop or so this weekend, give or take a few percentage points, for a third weekend anywhere from $26-29 million. By the end of the weekend, Deadpool will be approaching a $280 million domestic cume, soon moving ahead of The Matrix Reloaded to become the third highest grossing R-rated release of all-time. Expected to finish second is Summit's Gods of Egypt, though this one is facing some serious scrutiny. Budgeted at a massive $140 million, midweek...

For Manish Paul, featuring in the sequel of Tere Bin Laden was a huge responsibility. The TV host and actor said he simply gave his best shot to the film. “It was definitely a burden for me. The first part was a sleeper hit. I had to keep in mind several things. But I still did not pay much attention to the burden part because I have a feeling that this film is surely going to repeat history. The script of the film is strong and we had a great time shooting it,” said Manish.
The film stars actors Sikandar Kher and Pradhuman Singh alongside Manish Paul and he adds, “We were like brothers on the set. We never treated each other like co-stars. Working with Abhishek is irritating initially because he does a lot of workshops, which really bug everyone. But we later realised that it helped. He used...

When director Abhishek Sharma began penning a spin-off to his 2010 surprise hit, Tere Bin Laden, alongside his onscreen Osama bin Laden, played by actor Pradhuman Singh, the writer-director started scouting for the perfect actor to play the character of American President, Barack Obama. He instantly knew he had found his man when he came across a video titled ‘President Obama on Death of Osama bin Laden’, which features American rapper-comedian, Iman Crosson, known for satirising the President’s speeches through rap.
“My team got in touch with Iman who’s based in Los Angeles. He flew down to Mumbai and we shot with him on a large set of Abbottabad, recreating the speech and the rap,” said the director Abhishek.
Iman has been invited to the White House on two occasions and has duly impressed the President with his impersonations. In fact, Obama calls him his ‘best mimic’. To top that,...

Pakistani singer and actor Ali Zafar’s cameo role in Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive has many questioning why he wasn’t chosen for the lead role in the upcoming film, the actor explains it was solely because he wanted to opt for something ‘challenging’.
“When the sequel came underway, Abhishek and I were excited about it but as an actor I wanted to try something challenging. So he decided to cast me in an interesting number,” said Ali in a recent interview.
“I felt as an actor I’ve already enacted the role of a reporter in Tere Bin Laden and would want to try something challenging even if it’s a special part. In the west, you would often see even big actors like Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp feature in a surprisingly awkward yet interesting part. That’s the whole idea. Abhishek got excited and...

9.13 The Husbands Of River Song
"Spoilers"
Two things were bound to happen with the Doctor Who Christmas special this year.
One, that it would - as Christmas specials do - be a lighter, frothier piece of Who. We're well schooled in the drill of that by now, Yuletide regenerations excepted. And we weren't getting one of those, thank goodness.
Two, that it would thus be a very marked contrast for the direction that the show went in for the vast bulk of series 9 this year. The darker Who of the autumn was always going to give away to something warmer and lighter, with no shortage of fake snow.
After all, across the dozen episodes we've seen since September, horror has never been too...

Soul Calibur has been in a bit of a funk for the last few games. Soul Calibur III, the first entry produced after the Bandai Namco merger, was a solid enough affair, but lacked online play and suffered from a brutal glitch that corrupted memory cards. IV redeemed the franchise somewhat, but its online modes were incredibly laggy. That, combined with overpowered guest characters and tedious unlockables, didn’t make it popular with the fan base.
Soul Calibur V then came with a robust character creation system and improved netcode to keep things stable, but was practically an online-only experience with few single player options. The “improved netcode” was a mixed blessing, as matches would run smoothly, but also still disconnect half of the time.
With all that said, the Soul Calibur series has always been a sister franchise to Tekken, in fact, many of the same people work on both games.

As a gay, forty-something white man and father of 4-year-old twins, I have no business judging the rap battle that took place on this week’s episode of Empire (though for the record, I’d probably call it a draw). That said, I do know a full plate of crazy when it drives up to the curb in a black SUV, sporting a chauffeur’s cap and a $10 blonde wig from Party City.

What a time to be alive. With no fewer than 17 video game adaptations currently in development with movie studios of various descriptions – seven of which have planned release dates – it almost seems as if someone, somewhere, thinks they have found the secret formula that makes these endeavours potentially good. Why else would producers continue to pour their funds into a genre that has previously delivered such gems as Doa: Dead Or Alive, Wing Commander, Alone In The Dark, Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li and, of course, Double Dragon?
Perhaps technology has a lot to do with it. Just as the technical quality of video games has increased exponentially in the twenty seven years since the release of Double Dragon, so film technology has also progressed in the two decades since the release of its film adaptation. It is not possible to create a great movie using only visual effects,...

This….how do I describe it? Welcome Back is not a film. It’s a joke. An extended gag about two aging dons who are looking for a bride, and who fall in love with the same cheesy girl, the sudden appearance of their long-lost kid-sister who wants to marry this tall and gym-beefed tapori who is the long-lost son of a character named Ghungroo, played by Bjp MP Paresh Rawal. Rawal will have a lot of explaining to do to his High Command about what he is doing adding to a campaign quite opposite of a Swach Bharat.
In the meanwhile this….this….entity masquerading as a film has a lot of explaining to do about how and why it does what it does to some of the biggest talent in the industry. The last time Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar came together was in Vinod Chopra’s Parinda.

The Performer | Shiri Appleby
The Show | UnREAL
The Episode | “Future” (Aug. 3)
Among the flurry of favorable adjectives one could use to describe UnREAL‘s Rachel Goldberg — due largely to Shiri Appleby’s consistently layered performances — “unpredictable” is perhaps the most fitting. And never was Rachel, nor Appleby, more unpredictable than during this week’s season finale.
The complicated events of the finale forced Rachel to present a completely different face to nearly everyone she encountered on the Everlasting set, a feat she accomplished with such conviction that it left us wondering if Appleby had somehow cloned herself into five different,...

They say donning a pair of nostalgia-goggles can make things look far more appealing than they were at the time, but that’s not considering the absolutely delusional power of a horny teenager’s mind. Coupled with a young imagination and the many surrounding worldly influences flooding in at a mile a minute, we gamers could take any old stack of pixels in the vaguest shape of something sultry, and make it sexy as hell.
Over the years developers would curtail to this wanton desire in all sorts of ways, ranging from the chest-heavy likes of Leisure Suit Larry and Dead or Alive (the latter coming complete with aptly-named ‘Breast Physics’), through to more respectably sexy femme fatales like The Witcher 3’s trio of Ciri, Triss and Yennefer, or the reimagined versions of Lara Croft and the Mortal Kombat ladies.

Disney’s long-gestating musical comedy Bob the Musical, in which The Artist helmer Michel Hazanavicius may direct Tom Cruise, will be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon, The Hollywood Reporter revealed last night. Additionally, Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar for “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets has been enlisted to write songs for the pic.
Bob the Musical centers on a regular guy who suffers a head injury after which he is able to hear the heart songs of everyone around him – much to his confusion and dismay. It’s been in development for more than a decade but recently got a shot in the arm when Hazanavicius, searching for a mainstream project to tackle in the wake of 2011 Best Picture winner The Artist, got involved.
As for Cruise, he’s still circling the lead role but has not signed on yet. The actor has flourished in musical...

Update: Devil's Third, the hack-and-shooter from the designer of Ninja Gaiden, is coming to American Wii U and PC...
Update: Ah, the fast moving world of videogames. Only yesterday, the fate of Devil's Third's future in the Us was still in doubt. Twenty-four hours later, and it's confirmed that Tomonobu Itagaki's hack-and-shoot action game really is going to be released in America, with Nintendo of America confirming that it'll be available on the Wii U eShop in the fourth quarter of this year.
There's also a twist that we didn't see coming: what was for some time billed as a Wii U exclusive is also going to appear on PC. Called Devil's Third Online, it'll be a multiplayer-only version of the game - in other words, it'll lack the solo campaign available on the Wii U. It'll be "free-to-start," though costs and launch dates haven't yet been announced.

Sports. Poker. Paintballing. BBQs. These are just a few of the many ways that man has looked within to seek out an emotional connection with his fellow man. But nothing has done as much for male bonding as Capcom’s Street Fighter series.
Through a somewhat serendipitous loop of art imitating life imitating art, Capcom’s seminal fighter has been uniting men from a kaleidoscope of races and backgrounds to meet up and duke it out in various locations around the world for over two decades. Countless sequels and spinoffs into puzzles, manga, and two underwhelming movies had all arguably played a part in the oversaturation and eventual fatigue the series went through. A sobering experience that was far away from the influence the game enjoyed at the heights of its popularity.

Here are more nerdy spots in the final two Trek films to date: Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness...
Spoilers for Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness lie ahead.
Like their forerunners, the two latest Star Trek films, in their semi-rebooted, alternative universe, are replete with famous faces from outside the franchise, surprising cameos and multiple little touches that raise a smile.
With the third film in the rebooted series coming next year, the 50th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek on TV in 1966, let's take a look at a few of the geeky nods in Jj's Trek films.
1. Star Trek Nemesis left a lot of dangling threads, on purpose, as a story treatment for a direct sequel was already being worked on. Unfortunately due to some less than stellar decisions by executives, the release date of the film was repositioned and the decision was made to...

It’s been a long time coming, but today Nintendo and the creative team at Valhalla Game Studios shared more information about upcoming Wii U exclusive Devil’s Third, which will hit home on August 28.
Developed under the watchful eye of renown artist Tomonobu Itagaki – whose previous credits include Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden – the long-gestating actioner had been curiously quiet in recent times, though going off of the gameplay segments glimpsed in the video above, it seems that Nintendo’s flagship home console is very close to receiving a brand new exclusive.
Here’s the House of Mario confirming today’s announcement via Twitter:

Abhishek Sharma's last film Tere Bin Laden, a satirical take on the American obsession over Osama Bin Laden, the 'most wanted man' in the world, proved to be a sleeper hit in 2010. The film marked the entry of Pakistani actor Ali Zafar, in the world of Bollywood. Now, we have a sequel to the same titled Tere Bin Laden Dead or Alive starring anchor turned actor Manish Paul.
Tere Bin Laden Dead or Alive revolves around the happenings of May 2, 2011, the day when Osama Bin Laden was executed, as claimed by the American Media. According to director Abhishek Sharma, Osama's death remains a mystery which could very well make way for a gripping plot for the second installment. The actor, who played the role of Bin Laden in the prequel, Pradhuman Singh will continue his act as Osama. The sequel, just like its previous installments, will be a satire...

There is a dark place in movie hell reserved for the beast known as the “video game movie”. There have been some that really aren’t that bad, take Doa: Dead or Alive as an example or Silent Hill. They knew how to keep things fun without being too cheesy in the process. Double Dragon has been released on Blu-ray, and thankfully when it was first released I managed to miss it. Given enough time for nineties cheese to become funny and for bad B-movies to become popular, can it be redeemed as an eccentric cult-hit?

Farewell Ryan Hardy. The Following has left the building. Here's our review of its dizzying final two episodes...
This review contains spoilers.
3.14 Dead Or Alive & 3.15 The Reckoning
It's amazing to think of where The Following would have ended up going in its fourth season, but it looks as though it won't get the chance. Since the Lilly Gray season, I've had a vague idea in which Ryan Hardy becomes a killer, determined to hunt down the other killers. Of course the show manages to spring that on the viewing audience at the end of the third season, when it's already buried in some creepy basement under a serial killer's house. Still, it makes for a thrilling final episode, and even knowing that it's done (barring a reprieve from Netflix or Hulu, which I doubt will happen), the final moments of The Following on Fox offer a thrilling vision of what...

I feel like we should be praising Ryan Hardy after the series finale of The Following. But I'm getting ahead of myself. In the first hour, "Dead or Alive," Ryan puts all of his loved ones in protective custody, but can former agent Mendez and her family survive the wrath of Theo and Daisy? And in the final hour, "The Reckoning," the tables are turned as Theo kidnaps Ryan and wants to seek revenge for Penny's death. Meanwhile, it seems there's another mole in the FBI who is working with an unexpected group.

With Failure to Connect, we asked our writers what games they were unable to connect with, regardless of their fiscal and critical success. For the month of May we will attempt to explore this issue in detail on a case by case basis.
When I first saw the new Lara Croft way back in 2011, I could scarcely contain my excitement. As someone who had never really gotten into the series during it’s soaring Psx days, this reboot looked primed to be a key entry point. On top of that, the hyper-sexualized Lara Croft of the past had seemingly disappeared completely, replaced by a realistic depiction of a woman who, while undeniably athletic and symmetrically designed, did not represent an immature ideal of female body image. The latter specifically excited me as someone who had spent many years defending the validity of my hobby to naysayers; at last, the absurd...

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: I’m a huge supporter of Playstation Now.
Netflix, Spotify, Marvel Unlimited – show me a subscription service for content I want and I’ll show you my wallet. When it comes to film, TV, music and comics, roughly 90% of what I consume nowadays is streamed or downloaded. Physical media? Pah!
Games, obviously, are the sticking point. Sure, there’s digital downloads available on every platform (even Nintendo), yet it’s the one area I normally always go for the disc release. Why is that? Well, price plays a large part of it for starters. When I’m dropping £30-40 on a title, I want to really get my money’s worth. Whether this means trading it in against a future purchase or just sharing a game amongst friends, there’s not enough of an incentive right now to go fully digital for me.

With the PlayStation Plus monthly additions already out in the open – set to be made available today on PlayStation Store – Sony has switched gears to detail the newcomers to the company’s subscription-based PlayStation Now service for the month of April.

During a panel discussion following a press screening last night for HBO Films’ The Normal Heart, HBO President Len Amato (pictured left) announced that Ryan Murphy, the film’s director, would be taking over as showrunner for the HBO original series Looking in its second season.
“HBO had a great experience with Ryan on Heart,” Amato said. “We’re really thrilled about continuing that partnership and seeing what his unique vision will bring to Looking.”
Looking, which follows three gay men in present-day San Francisco, received mostly positive critical reviews but failed to pick up the kind of watercooler buzz surrounding HBO’s more popular series. Industry insiders view the decision to bring Murphy on board as a clear-cut strategy to bring in a wider audience.

The Walking Dead, Season 4, Episode 10: “Inmates”
Directed by Tricia Brock
Written by Matthew Negrete & Channing Powell
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
Ever since Scott M. Gimple took over as showrunner, it’s become clear that he and his team of writers have tried, as hard as they can, to put to rest any unfinished storylines and unanswered questions left over from season three. Yes it took some time to clean up after the mess, but to be fair, he did have to continue from where Glen Mazzara left off. This meant killing off busloads of extras who we never got to know – killing of The Governor once and for all– and blowing up an entire prison, forcing our survivors to move elsewhere. “Inmates” served to get things moving ahead even more. By structuring the episode as a series of vignettes, in a non-chronological order, we catch up...

It was always going to be tricky and challenging to reboot RoboCop. Paul Verhoeven’s original 1987 masterpiece is revered for much more than surface level cyborg on crime action, but its poignant social commentary that fearlessly tore into the world around us.
Over time those themes have expanded in relevancy, and it shows in the reboot – most notably with Samuel L. Jackson playing a caricature of Rush Limbaugh and robots filling in for American armed forces. The majority of what was depicted and alluded to in the original also rings true today too – maybe Paul Verhoeven has a time machine - as the reboot still tackles corporate greed, man and machine, and more with a sense of relevancy.
Paul Verhoeven just executes this with class and brilliance compared to the somewhat miscalculated reboot; the original is the very definition of timeless. But the reboot isn’t a total disaster without redeeming qualities either.
