You wish to have the curse reversed? You’ll need to win a Tony first! Brian d’Arcy James gave an impressive performance as the Baker in the recent revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s “Into the Woods.” Despite an impressive stage career, James has never won a Tony Award. That could all change thanks to one of the biggest hits of the 2022-23 Broadway season, and he would break a major Tony stat in the process.
James has amassed a whopping 15 Broadway credits over the course of his career, including “Into the Woods.” He scored his first Tony nomination for the musical “Sweet Smell of Success” in 2002 before picking up additional bids as the titular ogre in “Shrek the Musical” (2010) and for the farce “Something Rotten!” (2015).
The actor also had a hand in shaping characters from two Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning musicals. He originated the roles of Dan...

There are two upcoming movie musicals that, for a long time, I've wanted to make into motion pictures, should someone with money be willing to give me the funds to make them -- Into The Woods and The Last 5 Years. I'm both nervous and excited to see how directors Rob Marshall and Richard Lagravenese, respectfully, have interpreted the material I hold so close to my heart. I am especially nervous for Into The Woods, given Marshall's less than impressive track record. If someone is going to screw up something I cherish, it should be me. Of course, there are far more than two musicals I have a deep connection to. Some have already been made into films, like Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Les Miserables, but there is a vast collection of musicals I have thought could make fantastic films, but have never been made.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"Let Me In" (2010)
Directed by Matt Reeves
Released by Anchor Bay Entertainment
"Never Let Me Go" (2010)
Directed by Mark Romanek
Released by Fox Home Entertainment
Two of 2010's most underrated films that approach their respective genres from radically different perspectives than most, "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" and Mark Romanek's "Never Let Me Go" will finally have the opportunity to stand out on home video. In "Let Me In," Reeves applies some of his own biographical touchstones for this remake of Tomas Alfredson's horror film about the unlikely friendship between a vampire (Chloe Moretz) and a lonely young boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Romanek's adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's much-beloved sci-fi novel about a group of children raised apart from the rest of society for purposes that are unknown to them. (Alison Willmore's reviews for "Let Me In" and...

Filmmaker Rob Reiner ("A Few Good Men," "The Princess Bride") is reportedly hoping to turn Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "Next to Normal" into a feature film says Playbill.com.
Talking with Peter Bart, Reiner says the film is one he "would love to make, that I'm dying to make...I've been lobbying for this since it went on Broadway. It is a completely and utterly unique project and I've been dying to make a musical. It's done brilliantly and it's very uplifting."
The rock musical concerns a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. Alice Ripley, Aaron Tveit, J. Robert Spencer and Jennifer Damiano starred in the original Broadway run.

Kyle Dean Massey in Next to Normal (Photo credit Joan Marcus)
Kyle Dean Massey, one of Broadway’s brightest young stars, is illuminating and electrifying in Next to Normal, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about a bipolar mom and her family. The out and proud, 5-foot-10 hunk plays Gabe, the dashing and dynamic 18-year-old son, and Massey reaches new heights whether he’s racing up the show’s three-level jungle gym of a set, or hitting a high B when he belts Gabe’s big solo, “I’m Alive.”
So far, he has racked up about 500 performances and won Broadway.com’s award for Favorite Male Replacement.
Tom Kitt, the show’s Tony-winning composer, raves, “It would be challenging for anyone to take over a role from Aaron Tveit [who’s gone on to do TV’s Gossip Girl and the film Howl], but Kyle Dean’s made the role his own. He’s a beautiful actor with an exquisite voice and he’s incredibly moving.

Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and J. Robert Spencer - all stars from the original cast of Broadway's Jersey Boys - are fighting back against Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and the producers of Jersey Boys - Dodger Theatricals, Ltd. and Jersey Boys Broadway L.P. - in an effort to defend their right to continue to thrill audiences with concerts that are, and always have been, purely an evening of music from multiple iconic groups of the 1960s, and of reminiscences of their Broadway experiences.
