Starve is a film from Griff Furst. Described by some reviewers as Saw-style torture porn (THR), this indie horror title is soon to darken DVD store shelves. The release is scheduled for this summer. And, the film stars Bobby Camp (The Final Destination), Mariah Bonner (The Social Network), Cooper Huckabee and Johnny McPhail. Also, this title was supposedly released on television, but this film fan could find no evidence of this. Starve has shown at film festivals, including Spain's Sitges International Film Festival, though. A preview of the film's DVD release is hosted here. In the story, three friends are kidnapped. They are trapped with several other people, in an abandoned building. Here, they are starved, unless they can find the fortitude and amorality to kill another. A loudspeaker encourages everyone's darker side to come out and kill! Mti Home Video will handle the release. And, Starve will be available on DVD,...

You have to give director John Hyams credit for not just giving audiences the same old thing with Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. Those expecting a fun and action-packed thrill ride are going to be in for a major shock as this entry in the long-running franchise functions more as a horror movie than anything else. But despite the fact that the filmmakers are taking this series in a different direction, it doesn’t change the fact that the film is slow and dull in several spots, so much so that in the end, it doesn’t work as a whole.
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren return as our favorite Universal Soldiers: Luc Deveraux and Andrew Scott, and they have since formed the Unisol Church of Eventualism, which has them taking in wayward soldiers like themselves whom the government has been secretly operating as remote-controlled sleeper agents. Mercedes-Benz asked 47 Ronin director Carl Erik Rinsch — who you probably remember from his stunning, futuristic short film The Gift, about a chase between a robot and the Russian police — to create a commercial for their new campaign. Escape the Map definitely draws from sci-fi mind-benders like Inception, but it's every bit Rinsch — who we can't wait to see more from. The movie takes you inside a virtual map of Hong Kong, kind of like being trapped inside Google Streetview. Residents wander around entranced having lost their identity. The Social Network's Mariah Bonner "narrates" your journey while you desperately choose-your-own adventure to escape the map. The film translates to an interactive game, which you can play on the...

[1] Commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch's big screen debut 47 Ronin won't hit theaters until November 2012, but he somehow found time to shoot a new short film/commercial for Mercedes-Benz during the film's post production period. Rinsch's commercials show an amazing sense of imagination, visual effects artistry and composition. We've profiled his amazing commercials on the site [2], more than once [3]. You might recall that Rinsch was originally tapped [4] to direct a prequel/remake of Alien, before Fox convinced Ridley Scott to helm the project himself. Rinsch's futuristic action thriller short film The Gift [5] quickly spread around the internet, sparking a bidding war to turn the short film into a feature [6]. Before his first film is even finished, Rinsch has become one of the most in demand director's in new Hollywood -- his name seems to appear on every other big tentpole short list these days. "Escape The Map" is set inside the...

Lafayette, Louisiana is continuing to develop an indie film making scene, with Active Entertainment and Bullet Films debuting one of their first slashers this year. The title is Mask Maker, previously Maskerade. Set in farmland, a manor house holds unimagined voodoo curses and one killer with a serious identity problem. He compensates for a disfigured face with the peeled grimaces of others. Not for the squeamish, Mask Maker's best qualities are its hoodoo mythos, the excellent acting, and some exceptionally gory scenes.
A young child is accidentally cut along the top of the skull and soon, infection sets into the wound. Nothing will heal this injury, until his mother turns to a voodoo spell. The stumbling block comes about when she has to sacrifice animals and later humans to keep her son alive.

There's something about movies concerning talk show hosts we dig. From Talk Radio to even Pump up the Volume, there's just something about them. Especially when they're horror themed like Pontypool, etc. Well, there's another one coming our way so the question beckons ... will you answer the call?
According to Variety Alison Eastwood (pictured right) and Dallas Roberts will star in The Door, which will be produced by Capote producer Michael Ohoven.
The film, inspired by true events (of course), concerns a radio talk show host (Roberts) who's drawn to exploring paranormal activity by a caller and an unexplained death. Eastwood will play a Cdc investigator. They join a cast that includes Mariah Bonner, Bryan Massey and Tony Schiena.
Matthew Arnold helms from his own script, and production is under way in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Look for more soon!
