Read the in-depth piece on "Tfios" which appeared in Re/code: The Online Fandom That Launched "The Fault in Our Stars" by fanthropogist, Meredith Levine, in which she lays out just how this social media phenom happened,
According to ticketing website Fandango, 20th Century Fox's, "The Fault in Our Stars" has sold more advanced tickets than any romantic drama in their 14-year history, besting 2012’s "The Vow". Meanwhile critics are also praising the film. The Washington Post says "Tfios" "“achieves that rare feat of eliciting as many cheers as tears;"while movie news website JoBlo writes that it, “should do for a generation of kids what 'Ghost' did for their parents.”
The Wrap praises its social media edge as the determining factor in its popularity, stating, "Green has a hugely popular Tumblr — over two million subscribers, easy — and a YouTube network with his brother (aptly, it's called the VlogBrothers) that has over 600 million total views. This book is incredibly popular, with at least 43 Tumblr blogs dedicated to it; Green has at least 30 different meme sites about him, which is incredible for a young Ya author." Read more Here
What is not reported widely however, is what fanthropologist, Meredith Levine, delves into more deeply in her blog on Zefr, a young company founded by Richard Raddon which provides software solutions for brands and rights holders on YouTube, connecting brands and fans. To further the aims of fans suits the suits just fine but in the case of "The Fault in Our Stars" branding and fandom takes a more altruistic route toward by using media as a means to improve our world. To really understand “The numbers” as The Wrap reports them, Read:
The Vlogbrothers and The Project 4 Awesome shows some of the activities of John Green.
"YouTube has a reputation for being a platform for entertainment, but YouTubers also understand how to wield their influence for the greater good.”

Los Angeles, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Alison Sweeney, host of the NBC network's weight loss TV series "The Biggest Loser," has worked with the show's contestants since 2007, supporting them as they drop pounds and learn to lead a healthier way of life.
Now, Sweeney is taking on more weight issues by teaming up with dog food company Hill's Science Diet for the second annual Million Pound Pledge to raise awareness about obesity in pets.
According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 54 percent of America's pet population is overweight. Sweeney, who also stars on the daily soap opera "Days of Our Lives," became aware of pet obesity when she took her Boston Terrier, Winky, to the vet and was told her pooch could stand to lose a few pounds. Los Angeles (Reuters) - Oscar organizers on Wednesday unveiled a tough new set of rules that cracks down on the types of events Academy Award voters can attend before making their picks for the world's top film awards.
The new rules are meant to help create a more level playing field for nominated movies, actors and actresses by curbing the wining and dining that takes place for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ahead of the awards.
"These campaign regulations play an important role in protecting the integrity of the Academy Awards process and the distinction of the Oscar," Academy president Tom Sherak said in a statement.
The key change is that after nominations are announced on January 24, Academy members can only attend screenings of movies, but not a party or event if there is no screening.

Los Angeles (Reuters) - To legions of teenage girls and fans of the "Twilight" films, Taylor Lautner will always be known as Jacob Black, the werewolf who competes with a vampire for the love of a young woman.
But on Friday, the boyishly handsome actor with the six-pack strong abdomen hopes to broaden his appeal to wider audiences, headlining movie marquees on his own for the very first time in action thriller "Abduction."
Lautner, 19, finds himself the sole person on the movie's poster with his name above the title -- a major fete for any actor in Hollywood. And he must prove not only that he can draw audiences to box offices, but also that Lautner -- like Cruise or Pitt or Clooney before him -- can be a powerful brand name.

Los Angeles (Reuters) - He is one of the greatest American film directors working, but on Sunday night it was the world of U.S. television that Martin Scorsese ruled over, winning an Emmy for directing drama "Boardwalk Empire."
The pilot episode of the series, which is set in 1930s Prohibition-era Atlantic City at a time when mob bosses ruled that seaside town, was directed by Scorsese, and if he had his way, the maker of "GoodFellas" and "Raging Bull" said he'd like to direct more.
""I've always dreamed of working on a project where the characters can develop over a period of time," Scorsese told reporters backstage at the Emmys. "You can develop plot, characters ... and get more done over a longer period of time. It gives you more license and much more freedom."

Los Angeles (Reuters) - Adults can embrace their inner child with T-shirts by Lotty Dotty featuring the image of a paper doll who comes with her own detachable Velcro clothing to mix and match, changing the doll's outfit to fit the wearer's own personal fashion.
The offbeat shirts are just one of the many items being handed to celebrities at gifting suites in Los Angeles this week in the lead-up to Sunday's Emmy Awards, U.S. television's top honors that bring out A-list Hollywood TV stars.
Gifting lounges have become important marketing tools for companies, and even in the recent gloomy economic climate, the suites open up as a way for established companies and upstarts to gain exposure for new products or reintroductions. In recent years, many have begun to give some proceeds to charities.

Well, that's debatable: last year boasted the Sandra Bullock/Meryl Streep flirtation, Carey Mulligan's breakout performance, Mo'Nique, Helen Mirren, Kathryn Bigelow winning for best director…and so on. She's the spitting image of her late father and has inherited his passion for wildlife, and now 11-year-old Bindi Irwin is following "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin's footsteps into Hollywood-style movies.
Bindi makes her feature film acting debut in "Free Willy: Escape From Pirates Cove," being released Tuesday on DVD as the fourth movie based on the 1990s franchise about a boy helping free an Orca trapped in captivity.
"Pirates Cove," however, is a new story about an Australian girl (Irwin) helping a baby Orca trapped at her grandfather's theme park on the shores of South Africa.
Growing up with a larger-than-life personality like Australian adventurer Steve Irwin, who died in 2006 after a stingray attack, acting seems like a natural evolution for Bindi.

Veteran television actor Ricky Schroder stars in the indie feature Blood Done Sign My Name, which open in theaters February 19th. Based on the Timothy Tyson novel, the film is a true-life civil rights drama set in 1970s. Set in a small town, Schroder portrays a pastor of an all-white Methodist church who tries to get his congregation to live harmoniously with the black community. Zorianna Kit: You came aboard this project at the last minute. Rick Schroder: When the script came in, I had to read it right away because they needed an answer that day. I'd need to be on set in North Carolina in three days. It was an immediate yes for me. You can tell good writing when you read it. It had good dialogue and good characters. Zorianna Kit: The film...

If some old-time Hollywood hand were scripting this year's Oscar race, he would probably turn it into a sparkling, Tracy/Hepburn-style battle of the sexes.
On one side: Kathryn Bigelow, who stepped into male terrain with "The Hurt Locker," which not only grabbed nine noms but could also see her make Academy Awards history.
Already, she's just the fourth woman to be nominated for best director, and her recent DGA win makes Bigelow the favorite to also take home the directing Oscar. If that happens, she will become the first woman to ever claim that particular piece of hardware.
On the other side: James Cameron, her ex-husband. A previous best director Oscar winner for "Titanic," his "Avatar" also powered its way to nine noms. And he's also a directing nominee.
But anyone looking for fireworks between the two should expect to be disappointed: They've been nothing but supportive of each other this awards season.

Groundbreaking, first-time nominee Kathryn Bigelow was prepping for an appearance on the "Today Show" with two of her "Hurt Locker" actors Tuesday morning when the best director noms were announced. "These situations get framed as a competition," she said. "I don't see it that way. I see it as being honored in this incredible mix of filmmakers with these incredible films, and it's a great compliment to the entire 'Hurt Locker' cast and crew. We shot this movie under very difficult conditions in the summer in the Middle East -- windstorms, sandstorms -- using a crew from Lebanon and Israel, so it was no small feat. It's pretty heady stuff, let's put it that way, to be in the same conversation with these other films." Although she's aware of the magnitude of her nomination, the fourth for a female director, Bigelow is focused more on the potential impact on aspiring filmmakers.
In the indie feature Peter and Vandy, Jason Ritter stars as one half of a New York City couple who fall in love, then out of love, and then get back together. A pretty simple premise, except the whole film is told out of chronological order. It shifts back and forth between the good times, the bad, the innocent beginnings and the lessons learned. Huffington Post reporter Zorianna Kit sat down with the 29-year-old actor to talk about the film, the pressures of growing up in a famous family and how the death of his father, sitcom star John Ritter, affected him. Zorianna Kit: What drew you to Peter and Vandy? Jason Ritter: It seemed authentic. Peter's experience of being a man in this world seemed very close to my own experience. Zorianna: How do you identify with...

In Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, two story lines, each containing a strong female character, converge in a violent, bloody finale. Actress Diane Kruger plays one of these women -- a 1940s German screen star named Bridget von Hammersmark. Famous, beautiful and beloved by the Germans, Bridget has a secret side working as an undercover agent for a group of Jewish American soldiers with plans to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Zorianna Kit: How was it playing someone in the vein of Marlene Dietrich, who could also hold her own with a group of men? Diane Kruger: Being German, I had a pretty precise idea of what a German movie star would be like. But I've never been shot at in a film. Most of those scenes are actually quite funny to shoot. ...

Best known as Seth Cohen on television's The O.C., Adam Brody has been pretty much laying low since the show went off the air in 2007 -- until now. The actor, currently shooting A Couple of Dicks in New York City, stars in the indie feature Death in Love, in theaters now. Up next is the fall release of the horror feature Jennifer's Body opposite Megan Fox. Brody talked to Huffington Post reporter Zorianna Kit about life post- O.C. and working with some of the sexiest stars in Hollywood, including Fox and Angelina Jolie. Zorianna Kit: Death in Love is about a dysfunctional family stemming from the mother being a Holocaust survivor. There are a lot of extreme sexual acts being depicted on screen. What made you want to be part of director Boaz Yakin's...

Anthony Pellicano, the former celebrity private eye who set up shop on the Sunset Strip and boasted clients who were some of Hollywood's rich and powerful, was found guilty Thursday of racketeering, wiretapping and running a criminal enterprise.
Pellicano, who represented himself at trial and called just one witness, sat still and showed little emotion as Judge Dale Fischer read the jury's verdict, convicting him of all but one of the 77 counts against him. Sentencing is set for Sept. 24.
The jury found that Pellicano wiretapped a who's who of Hollywood, including CAA's Bryan Lourd and Kevin Huvane; Sylvester Stallone; Garry Shandling and his former girlfriend, actress Linda Doucett; Kevin Nealon and his wife at the time, Linda Nealon; producer Vincent "Bo" Zenga, his wife, Zorianna Kit, and brother, Jerome Zenga; Keith Carradine and his wife, Hayley Dumond; the late producer Aaron Russo, his sons, Max and Samuel, and his longtime girlfriend, Heidi Gregg; and Anita Busch, former editor of The Hollywood Reporter.
Busch, who was in court to hear the verdicts, said: "The full story of Pellicano's reach has yet to be told. To Pellicano and his wealthy clients, 'winning' meant obliterating someone's life and livelihood. They saw the media as just another weapon in their arsenal and used and abused it to go after anyone in their cross hairs."
Attorney Neville Johnson, who represents Russo's estate in a civil suit against Pellicano, added: "It's a big day. I'm not surprised.
