One of the top international sales agents, whose principals are the most well liked men in the industry are joining forces with the new kid on the block, Broad Green, a move which will enhance good will worldwide.
The company has acquired a 45% stake in Mister Smith Entertainment, David Garrett’s London-based licensing and distribution operation. The companies will be operating together at the upcoming 2015 Festival de Cannes, meeting with distributors, buyers, producers and filmmakers. "Making an alliance with a Us distributor seemed the next logical step for Mister Smith and Broad Green’s business philosophy and ethos are a great fit with ours," said Mr. Smith CEO David Garrett.
In a recent article The Hollywood Reporter states that "the partnership gives Broad Green the ability to maximize the foreign distribution of its internally developed film slate of wide releases and awards-oriented specialty platform releases and will also allow Broad Green to acquire worldwide rights on selected feature projects, with Mister Smith selling international. The move will also allow Mister Smith the ability to offer filmmakers equity and financing for productions."
Broad Green’s upcoming slate includes "Eden," A Walk in the Woods," "99 Homes,""Learning to Drive" as well as Terrence Malick's 3 latest projects. An impressive selection of films for a company that was founded just a year ago.
The Malick slate includes Bgp’s IMAX partnership for the larger-than-life documentary experience "Voyage of Time," a celebration of our planet from the birth of the universe.
It also features Berlin Film Festival acquisition of the "Knight of Cups,"starring Christian Bale, about a screenwriter drifting through a surreal haze in the City of Angels, as well as an untitled future project currently in post-production, starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Michael Fassbender.
“All of us at Broad Green share Malick’s passion for film and to partner with him on his next three projects is a dream come true,” said Gabriel Hammond, CEO of Bgp, and Daniel Hammond, Bgp Chief Creative Officer.

London based Film Sales & Distribution company Mister Smith Entertainment premiered "Roger Waters' The Wall at Tiff.
Roger Waters uses this film to question war during such a destructive time in the world:
“Any armed conflict is an underscore and an exclamation mark to this movie, because this movie is unashamedly anti-war, ecumenical, and about love for all men and women whatever their race, color, creed, nationality or whatever,”
Waters also uses this as an opportunity to call for compassion and political activism:
“It’s about our children and about each other and about how we so desperately need to transcend national boundaries in order to cooperate with one another rather than sitting entrenched on our side of a boundary or wall and lobbing bombs at each other over the top of it,”
He added, "We’re on a slippery slope and we need to dig our heels in and say enough, enough, this is not right,”

Former "SNL" funnyman Jason Sudeikis will get serious alongside Oscar winner Jeremy Irons and rising star Stephan James ("Selma") in the upcoming Jesse Owens biopic "Race." Focus Features has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the drama centered on track and field legend Owens (James), who fought racism and discrimination on his way to winning four gold medals at the 1936 games in Nazi-era Berlin. Sudeikis will star as Owens' determined coach, Larry Snyder, who trained various Olympic track stars to 14 world records and eight gold medals. Irons will play Avery Brundage, the controversial head of the American Olympic committee who fought to keep the U.S. in the Berlin games despite calls for a boycott in the wake of Hitler's rise to power. Brundage faced controversy again as president of the International Olympic Committee during the 1972 Munich games in which 11 Israeli athletes were killed by terrorists. Directed by...

The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Olga Kurylenko has landed a role in The Water Diviner.
The Oblivion star has been cast opposite Russell Crowe in the movie, which also marks the actor's directorial debut, The Hollywood Reporter states.
Set in 1919, The Water Diviner follows an Australian father (Crowe) travelling to Turkey to search for his sons, who have been missing since the Battle of Gallipoli.
CEO of Mister Smith Entertainment David Garrett expects "great interest" when his company introduces the movie to buyers at the 2013 American Film Market in November.
He said of the film: "It is a compelling, emotional story, set across a sweeping landscape, and the strong script together with the casting of international star Olga Kurylenko opposite Russell gives this film huge worldwide appeal."
Kurylenko can next be seen in Empires of the Deep, and will also appear as the headmistress of St Vladimir's Academy for vampires in Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters.

From last year’s adaptations of the Snow White fairy tale, Mirror Mirror star Lily Collins and Sam Claflin of Snow White and the Huntsman will team up for a big screen adaptation of the Cecelia Ahern novel Where Rainbows End.
Directed by Germany’s Christian Ditter (Wickie And The Treasure Of The Gods), principal photography starts in May on the Love, Rosie project.
Collins plays Rosie with Claflin as her best friend and star-crossed lover, Alex in the romantic comedy from a screenplay by Juliette Towhidi (Calendar Girls).
A bubbly screenplay that blends comedy, romance and drama follows a college-age girl who discovers she’s pregnant after one night with the most popular boy at school. She tells her best friend, who is not the father of her child, to get on with life without her and over the next 12 years their lives change, but an undeniable connection remains.
