Wide Awake - Kid questions various spirituality
7 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Too much saccharine - kiddy themes, wholesome music to complement the scenes. Felt similar to an after school special or a bizarre episode of Full House. Albeit, with strong directing and even better acting from the children.

Julia Stiles plays a supporting role as the sister Neena. Her participation is brief, but her ability to capture the viewers attention is evident, and highlights what will be strong acting career in her future.

Joseph Cross plays Joshua Beal, the main character who narrates the story throughout the movie. He is soft spoken and likable and documents his journey in 5th grade, as he searches for the meaning of life following a family loss. For his age, the performance is quiet solid.

Funny part - Rosie o'donnell mentions 6 hours without eating being sufficient to declaring it a fast.....no comments needed!

Very odd balance of a children's movie mixed with exploration of spiritual/religious practices. The movie briefly mentions meditation and muslim prays to mecca, but doesn't delve deeper than a brief moment.

Would I watch again? No. Should I have watched the 1st time? Nope!
