Other titles that Firefly will lens in 2022 include “Absolute 100,” a six-episode series based on the hit film by Srdan Golubović, which tells...

“Bad Blood,” an ambitious new Serbian feature film and TV series, has become the first project from the Sarajevo Film Festival’s CineLink Drama co-financing forum to go into production since the event’s establishment in 2016.
Set in the Ottoman Empire of the 19th century, “Bad Blood” is based on the works of renowned Serbian writer Borisav Stankovic and a script written by Yugoslav filmmaker Voja Nanovic in the early 1970s while he was living in New York City and working for ABC Studios as an editor. With the score for “Alias Grace” composer Mychael Danna wanted to “honor the period” in which the story takes place, while at the same time putting a “postmodernist shade” on it. He shared musical duties with his brother Jeff Danna on this Netflix adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s novel, which has brought the duo an Emmy nomination for Best Movie/Mini Score. Watch our exclusive video interview with the Dannas above.

“Alias Grace” revolves around a servant (Sarah Gadon) in 19th century Canada accused of homicide. “We wanted the music to be something that wouldn’t be jarring to the characters onscreen,” explains Mychael. “It’s a very square, controlled period where there are distinct rules and borders for everything, so we wanted the music to have that really square feeling to it,...

French singer France Gall has died. She was 70.
Gall, who owned France’s pop charts for decades and who inspired “My Way,” died Sunday morning in Paris’ American Hospital. Cause of death was a severe infection complicated by cancer, according to her publicist.
Born Isabelle Gall in 1947, she was the daughter of a songwriter who had penned hits for Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour.
After her first theatre and radio performances, Gall was signed to a record label while still a minor, eventually releasing her first single in October 1963, “Ne Sois Pas Bete,” a French cover of the Laurie Sisters’ “Stand A Little Closer.

There is no studio that times their releases more perfectly than Warner Bros. Around the end-of-year holidays there will be gift sets for films like “Elf” and “Willy Wonka.” Near Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, you can expect gift-appropriate releases.
And, of course, they always bring out the war movies and Westerns for Father’s Day in June. This year’s gift idea is a beauty, a massive 40-film, career-spanning set of films starring the legendary John Wayne. From 1932’s “Big Stampede” to 1976’s “The Shootist,” there’s a bit of everything for Wayne fans in here, but more for those who like war movies and Westerns.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
We don’t need to go through them all but highlights include “Rio Bravo,” “El Dorado,” “The Searchers,” “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance,” “True Grit,” “How the West Was Won,” “Fort Apache,” “Donovan’s Reef,” and “Hatari!” Some Wayne...

Just because Nick Offerman plays a dad whose son (Melissa & Joey’s Nick Robinson) chooses to run away from home and build a makeshift house in the woods with two friends (Super 8′s Gabriel Basso and Hannah Montana’s Moises Arias) in The Kings of Summer, in theaters today, doesn’t mean the Parks and Recreation actor didn’t bond with his onscreen offspring. “It’s important to me to let young people know that I’m just as big of a jackass, if not more, than they are,” says Offerman. “Because I often play an intimidating or stentorian figure,...

“How come you only show us clips from movies none of us ever heard of?”
She was 30, a single mom who’d admirably gone back to school for a business degree to better things for her and her family. She’d taken my film appreciation class as an elective, a break from the grind of her business classes, expecting it would be – her word – “fun.”
But, due to the aforementioned “movies none of us ever heard of,” she was not having the anticipated fun.
I explained, “Because most movies were made before you were born.”
Simple and obvious, it still didn’t satisfy her, and the unasked next question in her eyes I guessed to be, “But why do we have to see them?”
Most of my class – not all, but most – I knew felt similarly. They didn’t say it but I could tell: rolled eyes, glazed eyes, eyes...
