Writer/director Richard Bates Jr. and AnnaLynne McCord first came together several years ago to create Excision—the haunting tale of a young woman’s obsession with surgery that takes a tragic turn—which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The duo have returned to Park City this year for their latest collaboration, Trash Fire, which recently celebrated its debut as part of Sundance’s stellar Midnight selections.
Trash Fire follows Owen (Adrian Grenier), a troubled 20-something who wants to reconnect with his family—and his sister Pearl (McCord) in particular—after he learns some life-altering news from his longtime girlfriend (Angela Trimbur) and realizes he needs to atone for his past mistakes.
Daily Dead had the opportunity to catch up with both Bates Jr. and McCord during the festival to hear more about their experiences collaborating together on this personal tale of redemption and dealing with your demons. Bates Jr.

Of all those who revolutionized TV in the last 20 years, David Simon was always the most political and least commercial. From The Wire to Generation Kill and Treme, he's consistently dived into the country's thorniest topics: the Drug War, inner city public schools, the invasion of Iraq, New Orleans post-Katrina. In his new HBO project, Show Me a Hero, he takes on his least likely subject for nightly entertainment yet: public housing. A true story set in Yonkers in the late Eighties/early Nineties, the six-episode miniseries stars Oscar Isaac...

While promoting "Guardians of the Galaxy," Chris Pratt revealed that he before he got the lead role in Marvel's film, he auditioned for lead roles in "Avatar" and "Star Trek." "They said they want somebody that has 'that thing,' that 'It factor' ... I walked into that room knowing that I did not have that thing, and I walked out thinking I would never have that thing," he explained. "I figured, I'll find a way to make money and if that means I'm playing character roles, that's terrific. People have to work. I just don't want it to be at a f*cking restaurant." Pratt went on to say that despite wanting to work as an actor, he turned down the opportunity to star in "Guardians of the Galaxy" when Marvel first offered him the job. "I was probably scared and thought I was too fat to play a super hero.

Marvel has released nine new pictures from the upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy, a couple of which feature Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and in an interview with Comic Book Movie, Bautista spoke of the make-up process saying, "When we started, it was 4-5 hours just to put on, and 90 minutes to take off," but as filming progressed the process of applying the make-up sped up to the point where it was taking just under three hours. Nevertheless, sitting that long and then having to wear all that mess while you're performing has got to be a pain in the ass. Meanwhile, Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord in Guardians, recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said he tried out for the lead role in James Cameron's Avatar as well as for the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot saying, "They said they...

I never saw the first Rio movie. I don't know how I got out of it, but somehow my kids saw it without me. They loved the movie, they are excited to see the sequel. Me? I'm sure I'll find a way to get out of having to take them to see it. It just doesn't look good to me at all.

On Thursday, April 11, USA Network premieres "The Moment," a reality series that gives people a second chance at realizing their dreams.
The host is former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, who knows something about second chances. After the NFL didn't draft him in 1994, Warner got to try out for the Green Bay Packers that same year but was released before the beginning of the regular season.
Told he wasn't ready to throw the ball in the NFL, Warner moved in with his in-laws and got a night job stocking shelves at a grocery store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for $5.50 an hour.
He later went to work for his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa, as an assistant coach. When no NFL team wanted him, Warner then found success in the Arena Football League, which led to a tryout invitation from the Chicago Bears that he ultimately couldn't attend.

Sad news, John Mayer fans! Though he's decided not to delay his new album, "Born and Raised," any further, Mayer has been forced to cancel his Spring tour due to a recurrence of the throat granule that kept him out of the spotlight for the last several months.
Mayer posted the following statement on his Tumblr.
"I have no idea how to introduce this post, so I'm skipping the first paragraph.
"During rehearsal on Tuesday, it came to mind that I should see my throat doctor because something didn't feel/sound right. I went in for a visit on Wednesday and a scope of my vocal cords revealed that the granuloma has grown back where it had mostly healed. This is bad news. Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me,...

Dolly Parton's rather remarkable rise from poor country girl to country music superstar is now being developed as a musical for Broadway - and will be written by Ms. Parton herself.
Parton tells WENN, "I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it, but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me."
This will not be Dolly Parton's first foray onto the Great White Way, as Parton wrote original songs for the stage adaptation of the 1980 movie "9 to 5," starring Parton alongside Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. "9 to 5: The Musical" debuted on Broadway in 2009 and while it wasn't a smash, Parton didn't let that get her down.
"'9 to 5' didn't make it on Broadway but it didn't sour me. I learned all this stuff from it," says Parton.
And if you just can't wait to see Parton up in lights,...

Dolly Parton has admitted that she is working on a Broadway musical that will tell her life story on stage. The legendary singer-actress, who first got into music because she wanted attention, is known for her hit songs such as 'I Will Always Love You' and 'Nine To Five'. She told WENN: "I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me." Parton's previous Broadway project, the adaptation of her 1980 film Nine (more)...

The Queen of Country Music will soon get her life story told on Broadway.
Dolly Parton, the monumentally successful country singer will bring her story to the stage, according to WENN. Parton has won eight Grammys, including a lifetime achievement award, was named as the Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association back in 1978, and has been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
"I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me," she told WENN.
Parton's been on Broadway before: Her 1980 movie, "Nine to Five," went to Broadway in 2009, and was nominated for four Tony Awards. The production only ran from April to September, before closing.
But Parton's long career will surely have plentiful fodder for stage treatment. Parton was born, the fourth of 12 children, in Tennessee, where...

Every actor dreams of finding that perfect role. But what if that role involves singing—and the actor doesn't sing? Voice teacher Roger Love has helped prepare Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon for "Walk the Line" and Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell for "Crazy Heart," among many others. He specializes in finding an actor's voice quickly and blending it with the demands of the character.Built-In Advantage? One would think that actors would have an advantage when it comes to singing, since voice is such an important part of their craft. Love finds this isn't always the case. "You can have an amazing actor who just doesn't think they're a singer and is nervous as heck to get up in front of anyone and sing," he says. So he uses the actor's skill set and previous experience as a starting point. "It's a grab bag, and you get what you...

I've been having a hell of a time trying to find a copy of the brand new sequel to the smash-hit "Left 4 Dead". During Black Friday, several retailers were running an unbelievable special for "Left 4 Dead 2", bringing the title down from it's original $59.99 price to a jaw-dropping $34.95 for one day only. The problem? Approximately only five copies were available for each store, Best Buy being one running the promotion. Sooner or later I'll find a way to obtain a copy, but for now read on to see when Valve plans on releasing their first string of Dlc (Downloadable Content). It's reported the sequel has already sold more than two million copies and we can expect a lot more copies sold in the coming weeks before Christmas.
