“Shazam” star Zachary Levi is set to headline rock-climbing action thriller “Free Fall” for XYZ Films, with acclaimed New Zealand stuntwoman and stunt coordinator Zoë Bell tapped to direct.
The film — written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker — tells the story of a father’s attempt to reconcile with his estranged daughter on a rock-climbing trip that turns deadly as an accident leaves them stranded hundreds of feet in the air. Production is set to start later this year in New Zealand. Tom Hern and Nua Finau of Tavake are producing, with Navid McIlhargey and Erik Olsen executive producing alongside Finegan, Parker and Levi.
Bell began her career as a stunt performer on “Xena: Warrior Princess” and then alongside Quentin Tarantino as a stunt woman and coordinator over a decades-long relationship. She has worked on films such as “The Hateful Eight,” “Django Unchained,” “Kill Bill,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,...

Jordan Peele recently wrapped principal photography on “Nope,” his third solo directorial feature following Oscar winner “Get Out” and “Us.” Variety confirmed the end of filming along with the news that Hoyte van Hoytema served as Peele’s cinematographer. The outlet adds that “Nope” was shot on Kodak film, including 65mm film in IMAX format. Plot details about “Nope” are under wraps, but that it will be Peele’s first outing filmed for IMAX suggests he will be working on his largest scale yet. Universal has “Nope” on the release calendar for July 22, 2022.
Hoytema has become Christoper Nolan’s go-to cinematographer in recent years, shooting “Interstellar,” “Dunkirk,” and “Tenet.” For his work on “Dunkirk,” Hoytema was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. I feel like we’re all just supposed to know how to read Gilbert Hernandez’s “movie books,” even though they’ve never been clear, and their publisher (Fantagraphics) has stopped even mentioning the movie connection. These days, it seems to be just the distinctive end-papers that give us a clue, and then we’re on our own.
You see, Hernandez has been writing stories, in the various comics mostly named Love and Rockets, about a group of people, originally centered on the residents of a small South American town of Palomar though in recent decades shifting to the extended Southern California family of a woman named Luba who lived in Palomar for a long time. Luba’s younger half-sister, Fritz, had a career as a film actress: not a great career, and not a lasting one, but she made a bunch of movies. And Hernandez has not just told...

Santa Claus has been a consistent presence on The Simpsons from the very first episode, and not strictly contained within the holidays. Homer wanted to be him. Abe and Bart wanted to kill him. The family dog is named after him, and Mr. Burns routinely releases the hounds on him. The very image of Santa once saved Homer’s life. The town of Springfield brought a class action suit against him, even if they do trust him enough to hawk TV savings at Sprawl-Mart or buy Dancing Santas off YouTube. Here are the many ways in which Santa Claus has impacted The Simpsons.
Santa doesn’t get special treatment in the first episode of season 1, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire,” which was titled onscreen as “The Simpsons Christmas Special.” The episode premiered on Dec. 17, 1989, when the world still treated Father Christmas with respectful kid’s gloves. “There’s only...

Alec Baldwin did not return as Donald Trump in this week’s “SNL” cold open, though he did appear in a photo on the wall of Eric Trump’s bedroom. But we did get a celebrity appearance in the cold open, with Robert De Niro showing up once again as special counsel Robert Mueller.
The sketch began with Eric (Alex Moffat) terrified by a bogeyman he thinks is out to get the Trump family, and comforted by Donald Trump Jr (Mikey Day) who read “The Night Before Christmas,” while also trying to reassure him that the whole family probably isn’t going to jail.
The bedtime story reading didn’t go super smoothly, mainly because Eric doesn’t know what any of the words mean — “Indict: There’s no sugar ‘indict’ coke,” Eric said after Don Jr. praised him for actually knowing the word “indict” — and they’re quickly interrupted...

Oscar-winning Jordan Peele is set to reunite with his long-time Key and Peele partner Keegan-Michael Key for Netflix’s stop-motion feature, Wendell and Wild.
The Night Before Christmas and Coraline director, Henry Selick, will take the helm on the picture which will see Peele and Key voice the character of demon brothers.
The feature is based on an original idea by Selick who states the story will focus on “two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul”
Selick and Peele are writing the script along with Clay McLeod Chapman. Additionally, publisher Simon & Schuster will also feature a tie-in book from Selick and Chapman to be released in conjunction with the film.

Netflix’s latest offering is a true nightmare before Christmas — and that’s a good thing. “El Camino Christmas,” available to stream on Friday, Dec. 8, tells the story of a drifter (played by “Fifty Shades of Grey”‘s Luke Grimes) whose arrival in a sleepy California town sets off a chain of chaotic events, culminating in a fatal hostage situation at a liquor store. As the madness unfolds, countless lives — including those of a single mother (played by Letterkenny’s Michelle Mylett) and her young, introverted son — are changed forever.
In case it wasn’t already clear, this isn’t your typical comedy — and it’s definitely not your typical Christmas movie. The unconventional story, which also stars Dax Shepard and Vincent D’Onofrio as a pair of bumbling cops with absolutely no business wielding pistols, takes pride in bucking conventions at every turn, of which there are many.

How this video managed to elude the Internet for so long I haven't the slightest clue, But We Found It! The video is kind of dampened by it's live quality but try to imagine it like Bruce Springsteen's cut of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" and you'll be perfectly fine listening to Morgan Freeman recite "'Twas The Night Before Christmas"!
Maybe if this goes viral enough we can convince him to do a recorded version for next Christmas!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! It's almost Christmas, and as you're gathered with family and friends watching Christmas movies and TV specials, you can pull up this video and watch impressionist Jim Meskimen recite "The Night Before Christmas" in 27 different celebrity voices. Let's face it: we'll never actually be in the same room as Sir Ian McKellan reading this poem, so this will probably be the closest we ever get.

Barack Obama got into the festive spirit on Thursday night when he attended his last National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony as president. Barack, his wife Michelle, and their youngest daughter Sasha were all on hand at the fun event, which was held at the Ellipse in President's Park in Washington DC. Not only did stars like Eva Longoria, Marc Anthony, and Kelly Clarkson get in on this year's fun, but the president also couldn't hold back when it came to belting out a few Christmas carols. In an adorable moment that probably made Sasha say, "Omg, please stop," Barack sang "Jingle Bells" alongside Santa Claus and Chance the Rapper (or should we say Wrapper?). Michelle also made sure to participate, as she read The Night Before Christmas for a group of young children. Watch all the holiday fun in the video above, but fast-forward to the 11:25 mark if you...

Broad Green Pictures is developing “The Fight Before Christmas,” a comedic holiday pitch from “Daddy’s Home” writer Brian Burns, who will pen the script. The film will be produced by Matt Alvarez (“Ride Along”), the company announced Thursday. After 700 years of marriage and feeling unappreciated for her continued Christmas contributions, Mrs. Claus leaves Santa just two weeks before the holiday. Poundland has been selling Blu-rays! And we've been buying and watching them! Tornado Warning, anyone?
I’ve covered the DVD section of Poundland before. I love it, even if I do only ever get around to watching about half of the discs I buy.
Unfortunately, hunting for DVDs in Poundland has become a bit of a dead sport. It’s partly because streaming services like Netflix have given us even easier access to weird films that might turn out to be rubbish. It’s also because Poundland have taken to stocking used DVDs, meaning they have a lot of big Hollywood films that are the same thing you could buy anywhere. That’s not what I go to Poundland for. I’m shopping for strangeness! Not only that, this Den of Geek writer has some very mild issues with germs and can’t really cope with touching second-hand DVDs.

Seasonal shows have been a staple of their television output for as long as I can remember going as far back as Captain Lou Albano reading Christmas stories on WWE programming; through the Attitude era, where the fun of Xmas was juxaposed with the more hardcore on-screen action; to more recent episodes of Raw and the likes of the “Good Santa vs. Bad Santa” match between Mark Henry and Damien Sandow in 2013.
The WWE Christmas Collection sees Christmas come early to the WWE universe as “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley and his daughter Noelle (side note: I’m sure Foley’s daughter takes after her mothers side of ther family…) as they go on a quest to find Santa Claus, all the while reminiscing about classic WWE moments and matches from Christmas’ past. Welcome to Holiday Favorites, a series in which Slackerwood contributors and our friends talk about the movies we watch during the holiday season, holiday-related or otherwise.
The sadly forgotten Christmas comedy Mixed Nuts (1994) has been a holiday viewing tradition for me since its release 20 years ago. Co-written and directed by Nora Ephron from the earlier French film Le père Noël est une ordure (1982), Mixed Nuts bears almost no resemblance to the director's more famous romantic comedies. The holiday farce deals with the staff of a Los Angeles suicide hotline (Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn, Rita Wilson) who must contend with a bickering pair of expectant parents (Anthony Lapaglia, Juliette Lewis), a melancholy cross-dresser (Liev Schrieber), a quirky ukulele player (Adam Sandler) and other assorted characters as they face eviction as well as a serial killer known as The Seaside Strangler on Christmas Eve.

Big Brother's Power Alliance has disbanded and Ashleigh Coyle has gone from Power Housemate to eviction nominee in the latest twist.
Previously, Ashleigh picked Chris Wright and Mark Byron to join her as a Power Trio, and they nominated Ash Harrison and Steven Goode for eviction, later adding Pavandeep Paul after hearing advice from their former housemates.
They then added Zoe Birkett into the mix, with Chris telling Mark that her popularity with the public means that she will be safe.
Ashleigh told Iris in the control room that she enjoyed being part of the Power Alliance because it was "fun", and when prompted revealed that Zoe was their fourth and final nomination.
She explained that her loyal friendship with Christopher Hall meant that they couldn't choose him, while Winston Showan was one of the only people who defended her during her issues with Helen Wood.

Yeah, we know. Christmas is over, the presents have been opened, the roast beast has been eaten and all eyes are on tomorrow night when the countdown to 2014 begins. But let's not let the spirit of season disappear just yet. In case you missed them during whatever marathon you watched over the past week, or during the rollout this fall, Best Buy issued a quartet of Christmas ads rounding up Jason Schwartzman, Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph and LL Cool J giving their own consumerist spin on “Twas The Night Before Christmas." Yes, each rendition ends up with a purchase at Best Buy, but what's Christmas without shopping? Anyway, give them a spin below, each one followed by a making-of featurette right after. Sitting down for their annual interview with People Managing Editor Larry Hackett and Washington, D.C., correspondent Sandra Sobieraj Westfall, President and Mrs. Obama reflect on the year's difficulties, both in the political arena and the smaller challenges he encounters at home. "I've got three opinionated, strong, tall women," says President Barack Obama. "If they get together, they can have fun about my ears or being too loud, or how I dress." If only that genial ribbing was the worst of his year. The President, joined by Michelle Obama in the White House's Blue Room, also answered questions about the glitchy launch of healthcare.

On Thanksgiving Day, Glee will join an elite squad of network TV series: the few, the proud, the ones with puppet episodes. Not episodes that revolve around inevitably creepy marionettes — like Buffy’s “The Puppet Show” or Criminal Minds’ “The Lesson” — but ones that instead feature cute, colorful felt facsimiles of one or more main characters. (It’s important to note that these facsimiles are generally not Muppets. To quote an earlier episode of one Puppet Brotherhood member: “Shh! You wanna get sued?”)
Though puppet episodes are a nascent genre, they still generally conform to a certain set of rules.

I wonder how the Killer Croc encounter will play out because battling him was one of the best parts of the first game, in my opinion. The game's score is provided by Christopher Drake, whom you may remember gave us some truly incredible music in animated films like Gotham Knight, Under The Red Hood, Year One, and The Dark Knight Returns. You can own it October 22, which is three days before the game is released. Click the source link to listen to samples on Amazon. Track list: 1. Arkham Origins Main Titles 2:52 2. Did somebody say pajama party? Khloe cozied up to her sister’s man in an adorable shot that she shared with her fans on Instagram.
Khloe Kardashian may be dealing with drama in her personal life, but she continues to put on a brave face — and that’s exactly what she did when she shared an adorable shot with Scott Disick on Instagram on Sept. 16! The pair, both dressed in pajamas, are sitting on a bed — but Khloe still looks picture perfect, thanks to her glam hair and makeup.

The picture was accompanied with the caption, “Get off my Scott Disick.” While the Kardashian’s are certainly a close-knit group, we don’t think this pic actually caught the pair in the midst of a slumber party. Instead, it looks more like photo shoot time — which comes as no surprise from the reality star fam,...

Last night, Michelle Obama prepared to read 'Twas The Night Before Christmas to the patients at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. and The First Family's dog Bo wanted to get a good seat. The best seat, in fact.
Photos - The Sweetest Moments Between Michelle and Barack!
As Michelle sat down beneath the ornate Christmas tree, Bo hopped up on her lap as if there weren't hundreds of people watching (and as if the four-year-old was still the size of a puppy)!
"This is exactly what he does at home," the First Lady laughed. "He tries to beat Malia and Sasha to my lap."
Michelle forged ahead with gusto and you can watch the adorable scene play out in the video below!

Last night on Late Night, Tracy Morgan gave his own grumpy, Grinch-y take on Jimmy Fallon's reading of The Night Before Christmas. "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse," Fallon crooned as yuletide music twinkled in the background. "I hate that mouse, always walking around with his little nails scratching against my kitchen floor," Tracy Morgan growled. "I got brand new floors, Jim, from France." Yeah, seriously! Plus: Adam Pally gave Casey Wilson an apology helmet for the concussion she had gotten from banging her head on the black penis mic that Pally had been resting on Damon Wayans Jr.'s lip. But, all's well that ends happily, right? Also, when the time comes for Dexter reruns on a TV network, you might be hearing a lot of "You damn 'peanut butter sandwich'" from serial F-bomb dropper Jennifer Carpenter; and Don Johnson aired out alllll of Jamie Foxx...

I always loved Christmas or, perhaps more accurately, I always loved the anticipation of Christmas. I loved the possibilities of Christmas. What would I get? Would others like what I gave? As a boy, my family had an Advent calendar that we used every year; each day you would open another closed window, revealing a picture or text, leading to Christmas Eve. With the one we loved best, the window would open onto another sentence of the Christmas story and that helped build the rising sense of anticipation.
My Mom created a Christmas ritual every Christmas Eve. We would have our own Christmas parade from the top of the stairs, singing a carol, bringing the Baby Jesus figurine to the Nativity scene under the tree. We got more resistant to the cheesiness of it as we got older but Mom was right and we were wrong. We would read The Night Before Christmas out loud,...
