A failure from the beginning
Horst_In_Translation26 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"Dämonenbrut" or "Insel der Dämonen 2" or "Demon Terror" is a German film from 2000, so this one will have its 20th anniversary soon. The writer and director is Andreas Bethmann and if you have seen any of his other films then you will know exactly what to expect here. Lots of sex, lots of violence, a really bad plot (if you can even call it that), and a whole lot "for the sake of it" material that never feels compelling or memorable at all. And of course bad acting and horrible production values too. This is really one of the film I would call amateurish and while it may indeed be amateur filmmaking, it is also definitely a description of the quality. Luckily there is a 90-minute director's cut out there and that's also the one I saw, so Bethmann has some mercy and does not require you to sit through a terrible film of over 2 hours. That would have been worse torture actually than some of the torture in this movie. the only reason it's not granted to be Bethmann's worst is because he has some other pretty weak stuff out and this one here is a sequel actually and the fact that such a low film is even more popular than the first really says nothing positive about the original. The cast includes several of Bethmann's regulars and the most known name is Katja Bienert, who is known for her softcore sex films from decades earlier. Seems like she managed the impossible to stoop on an even lower level quality-wise. Quite a pity, she really was a stunner back in the day. I guess that is all I want to say about this film. It is a horrible movie, just plain bad and also no so bad it's good trash film potential. I highly recommend to stay away.

Why does a demon need a Black & Decker?
BA_Harrison17 October 2020
Andreas Bethmann's Demon Terror starts off in extremely muddled mode, the director jumping from one scene to another in totally random fashion, the result being utter confusion for the viewer. A rat catcher is attacked by a juice-squirting tentacle and has his face dissolved; a naked woman takes a break from her book to pleasure herself (given the lighting, I'm amazed that reading was even possible), but is also attacked by a tentacle; armed bank robbers Riccardo (Thomas Riehn) and Antonio (Carsten Ruthmann, who annoys by holding his gun in a side-grip) kill everyone in a bank (including a toddler, played by a child's toy doll) and make off with a tiny sack of money; a naked woman in the sea is attacked by a shark; a girl takes a shower after sex, and returns to find her lover has been drilled in the stomach; and several women in hell are tortured by a demon (graphic tentacle penetration shots and a drill to the skull).

Bethmann, a film-maker with a Jess Franco fixation, gives us graphic gore and gratuitous female crotch shots, but makes Franco look like a cinematic genius by comparison, the cack-handed first hour of his film making less sense than even the most esoteric '70s Euro-horror.

The last half an hour is much better (not exactly difficult, I know): the bank robbers, their accomplice Magdalena (Marion Ley), and a female hostage land on a seemingly deserted island, unaware that it is home to bloodthirsty demons that plan to take over the planet. A group of soldiers also arrive on the island, and are attacked by the fanged creatures, which leads to a gore-filled final act in which everyone clearly suffers from high blood pressure, since their claret gushes like a fountain when they are bitten or shot. Bethmann only takes time out from the carnage for the occasional bit of breast fondling. If you can imagine Lamberto Bava's Demons, but on a tighter budget with less talented performers and more blood and boobs, then you'll have a good idea what this part of the film is like.

After much messy violence, including gutmunching, dismemberment, and a sickle to the skull, the film closes with demon Maria (Katja Bienert) making it to the mainland to spread her evil across the land...

1/10 for the first hour; 5/10 for the last thirty minutes or so, which averages out at 3/10.

German Gore And Tentacles...
EVOL6667 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
As I've noted before in other reviews, I'm not a particularly big fan of the German "ultra-gore" films, as most of them are so poorly made as to be completely laughable. Ittenbach is hit or miss with me, I hate Schnaas with a passion, and Fipper is one-for-two in my book, being that I hated the atrociously retarded DAS KOMABRUTALE DUELL but thought that OSTERMONTAG had some very decent moments, and I've only seen one of Timo Roses' films which was OK. As I usually can't get in the mood to watch German gore these days with the many disappointments I've had with the bulk of them - DAMONENBRUT is my first foray in Bethmann territory. Honestly - I didn't hate it. It wasn't anything special by any means, but it seemed to have a bit more ambition to it than I've seen from similarly budgeted films.

The storyline of DAMONENBRUT is pretty incomprehensible to me, as my copy is in German language only with no subs/dubs - but it basically seemed to be about some demon that tentacle rapes hapless female victims (a la most any hentai film out there...) and then said victims become demons themselves. There seemed to be some sort of kidnapping scheme involved in all this, and then some military group gets involved at the end, and there is a showdown between kidnappers, military guys, and demons...

Overall, DAMONENBRUT delivered on some levels. A solid bit of explicit female nudity (which is ALWAYS a plus...), including some explicit tentacle-insertion which proves to me that Bethmann ain't scared to bring the "goods". I'm also surprised that a few of the women that were "abused" in the film were actually quite attractive - this is rare in these zero-budget German efforts. There's a good bit of gore, but most of it is nothing special, except for a few choice scenes. The demon makeup is a bit goofy looking, but works for the most part. Plot is hard for me to judge, cuz I couldn't really make heads or tails out of most of it due to the language issue. I'd say that if you dig low-budget SOV films that contain explicit nudity and a decent helping of gore, then DAMONENBRUT is probably a safe bet for you. Otherwise, I'd say to skip this one altogether...6/10

UGH! Can someone please do a proper naughty tentacle movie?!
mr-norman-bates19 April 2004
What can I say? I dare you to watch this. No, I TRIPLE DOG dare you!

If you actually need a "plot" synop, here goes: a couple of german yutes are heading towards an island for some fun. Unfortunately, so are a small gang of bank robbers/ baby doll murderers (yes, I said baby DOLL murderers: there is a shot where a TOYS R' US baby doll -complete with the gravity assisted big blue eyes -is substituted as a REAL baby as said Tarantini wannabe puts a gun to its forehead. It even comes complete with standard baby giggles before impact. You will not believe it as you see it either)!

So, when all arrive on the island, much chaos ensues as they (1) run around from either each other or (2) encounter crosses that slowly spin around and drip blood, (3) the long retired fog from JC's THE FOG and (4) naughty tentacles that look like dung, which do naughty things (think LA BLUE GIRL, but with real girls, stop motion and fake screams the likes of which have not been seen since DR. BUTCHER).

So, if naughty tentacles are your thing, just check out the live action LA

BLUE GIRLs out on dvd or even the 5-dvd set of ANGEL OF DARKNESS (which are pretty slow and have very little naughtiness). Otherwise, PLEASE ... watch this movie with your parents. They will love it. I mean it. Really.... D
