Equally atmospheric in strikingly different ways, the living dead and prom make for an awesome, creepy combination (see Gregg Bishop's Dance of the Dead), and they could come together once again via the in-the-works Zombie Prom feature film.
Variety reports that a feature film adaptation of the Zombie Prom musical is in development. The movie and TV rights to the horror comedy play that made its debut in 1993 have been picked up by Michael J. Roth and Steve Longi.
Vince Marcello, who wrote and directed the 2006 short film adaptation of Zombie Prom, will direct the full-length feature from a screenplay he'll write with creative collaborator Mark Landry (the duo co-penned Disney's Teen Beach Movie).
Similar to Creepshow, Zombie Prom was inspired by EC Comics from the 1950s. For those unfamiliar with the off-Broadway play and its short film adaptation (which co-starred RuPaul as Miss Strict), here's the short's official synopsis (via zombiepromthemovie.

Carrie White may be considered by many to be the worst prom date in all of cinematic history. In Stephen King's classic Carrie, the telekinetic teen decimated her entire graduating class (and eventually the whole town) before the dance was over, and she did it without lifting a finger. But we would be remiss not to mention the circumstances leading up to that final showdown: Carrie suffered at the hands of an overbearing mother and mean-spirited classmates who relentlessly bullied her every day; it was that combination that ultimately pushed Carrie to the point of no return. But Carrie White isn’t the only cinematic prom date from hell. In fact, high school dances tend to be a somewhat common convention in horror films. When a dance serves as the epicenter of the action, it allows for maximum carnage: an entire student body crammed into a gymnasium with a...

On Sunday, Oct. 6, Food Network premieres the third season of the competitive reality show "Halloween Wars," which pits cake decorators, candy makers and pumpkin carvers against one another in search of the $50,000 prize.
Judges are pumpkin carver Robert Childers, cake artist Veronique de Groot and candy crafter Heather Hurlbert.
Host Justin Willman sees his role as a multifaceted one.
"I wear many hats," he says. "I'm the referee, I'm the cheerleader, I'm the emcee, I provide the color commentary, I've got to tease the tension. As you know, it is a war.
"It's serious business. As a performer, as an entertainer, I like to release the tension and put people at ease, but for good television, you've got to build on that tension.
"So I walk the line between the two -- crack people up when I need to, or let them wallow in their awkwardness, which makes great television.

It was recently announced that director Tom Holland (Fright Night, Child’s Play) is involved with a horror-themed cruise called the Ship of Fear. The event will take place during Halloween 2013 and is going to be a mix of a horror convention, rock concert, and a party on the ocean. We recently interviewed Tom Holland, who talked about launching this venture and what we can expect:
How did you become involved in launching a horror-themed cruise?
Tom Holland: David Chackler has been a friend of mine and my music supervisor since Fright Night. He suggested doing a horror-themed cruise on the ocean and I thought it was a great idea because you can party the whole time without having to worry about driving home [laughs]. This is party-oriented and done safely. David had access to Ecp because he had been doing these themed cruises for smooth jazz and I thought it was a great idea.

Tom Holland is a busy man. The Fright Night director not only just opened his own horror memorabilia site, Twisted Curios, but is directing the Stephen King adaptation The Ten O’Clock People as well. And now, he has lassoed Alice Cooper and company to command the Ship Of Fear: A Horror Cruise, an event to mark on your calendar for next Halloween.
The Ship Of Fear will be a cruise boat adventure with some of the greatest directors and actors from the horror genre onboard (featuring notables from The Lost Boys, Gremlins, Friday The 13th, Pet Sematary, and more), along with rock stars, illusionists, performance artists, and presumably all sorts of horror gags for its five nights of fun in the ocean. If you order early, a position on the scary schooner will only cost you $729. To check out ticketing, go here.

The good news is your dates are here, the bad news is they’re dead.
It’s year six for the Philly Zombie Prom and producers Robert Drake and Dave Ghoul are expecting more than a thousand zombies in the house. The zombie prom is part of a trio undead celebrations, including an annual zombie crawl held on Easter in celebration of the world’s most famous zombie on his big day.
Why is Philadelphia such a hotbed of zombie love?
“I think being in the birthplace of America has fueled the love of the undead - the city is bursting at the seams with spirits and things that go bump in the night .. so why not zombies? Plus, in a city that loves cheese steaks and scrapple - it makes perfect sense we'd have a strong craving for braaaains,” Drake said.

It is that time of year again when Dread Central pays its respects to those who have worked in our beloved genre and made it to the red carpet on Oscar night 2011. The genre was in rare form when it came to the nominations. Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan was up for the gold in multiple categories (best picture, best actress, cinematography, and direction); even The Wolfman was on the short-list for best make-up. And win we did.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves because therein lie the gems of VHS past for a large share of both the winners and folks who were nominated. Highlights include a win for Melissa Leo (nominated two years ago for Frozen River), whom we remember best as Judith 'MaMa' Baer in Deadtime Stories. And who could forget Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho? My fellow fright fiends, he brought home the gold last night.

I think we’ve made it pretty clear by now that we’re a fan of the zombie genre. I suppose that’s somewhat of an understatement. We’ve also made it pretty clear that we’re Super excited about AMC’s The Walking Dead (tickets are selling like crazy, don’t wait if you want to watch it with us!). Also, Joshua Driggs already made it very clear that the Alamo Drafthouse and The Highball are perfect spots for a zombie hangout. So, using these points that you’re already aware of, I’d now like to pitch a plan for your Halloween evening. Sure, it’s on a Sunday and everyone has to go to work the next day. Details for that at the bottom.
Sunday Morning: Sleep in. Don’t go to church. God hates zombies. Besides, it’s gonna be a long night. You need your rest.

It’s that time of year again, kids. Dread Central’s 2010 Horror at the Oscars coverage. Horror was indeed present this year and in black-tie. While Roger Corman and Lauren Bacall were honored a few months back at the Governor’s Award Ceremony, it was an unexpected delight to see Corman, recipient of the lifetime achievement Oscar, enjoy a standing ovation on national television.
I was, however, very disappointed that neither of them were allowed to speak. Roger Corman’s contributions to modern cinema are too vast for him to just stand up and wave. James Cameron was one of many Corman acolytes present, and his nomination speaks to Corman’s tremendous legacy. On the Terminator DVD Cameron mentions, "I trained at the Roger Corman Film School.” Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others, were also former students.

In the realms of horror and macabre art, several artists find it very difficult to evoke fear out of their viewers. As noted on his website, artist D.E. Christman “…is an artist that simply wants to scare the hell out of you…” and Christman certainly does so. With his slimy paws in several different areas of art production, Christman runs the coveted design studio, Grendel’s Den. As noted on Grendel’s Den, they are a design studio that offers web design and development, graphic and print design, logo and branding development, media packaging design, and custom art and illustration; all in the name of horror!
Created by horror mastermind, D.E. Christman, Grendel’s Den was developed over a decade ago, when Christman began his love for art. With beautiful imagery, some a combination of tangible objects and computer-generated imagery, Christman’s art is reminiscent of Cliver Barker’s nightmarish,...
