Never Gets Old

I disagree with the previous review that this episode bombs because of Mary's whining. It's a terrific entry in particular for Rob's antics as he ponders whether to go through with the marriage or not. Dropping the keys in the radiator never wears thin; it's a clever bit and Rob pulls it off perfectly! It's a lot of fun episode with the great Dabs Greer as the minister!

Cute and clever

In this episode, Rob tells Ritchie about when he and Laura married. It seems that back when Rob was in the Army, they decided to marry. Unfortunately, again and again, things came up which were no one's fault...and Rob kept missing his wedding. The first time, his jeep broke down and he twisted his ankle. The second, he got sick and was confined to the base hospital!

This is a funny episode and much of this depends on the physicality of Dick Van Dyke...and he's excellent at doing this. It's also well written, engaging and fun. Not the best episode but among the best...and according to IMDB, one of Van Dyke's favorites.

So-so episode...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to find the Laura character to be rather annoying in the earlier episodes of the show.

Whether incidentally or on purpose, the writing of the first 2 seasons or so of the show definitely left room for growth in the personalities of all of the characters.

For example, around the middle of the 3rd season the Laura character was slowly starting to leave-behind what had become some pretty tedious and annoying behavior, not the least of which was a penchant for whining and being a general pain.

As the writing improved over the course of the series, not all but most of the main characters showed at least some growth, mellowing, and improvement.

This episode here is so-so.

Laura is certainly not the only obnoxious factor of this so-so,take it or leave it episode.

Watch it and see what you think. 6/10.

Mary's selfish and annoying whining ruins the episode.

Warning: Spoilers
How or why Rob put up with Mary's obnoxious whining and crying is truly a mystery. To me, it is like fingernails on a chalkboard listening to Mary whining and going on and on about what usually turns out to be nothing-much. I wish Rob just once would tell Mary to shut the hell-up during her standard whining and crying routine. This episode bombs because of Mary's obnoxious behavior.
